Objective: Our aims were to find a new aqueous drainage device-umbilical artery tube (UAT) and to study its effect in decreasing IOP. Methods:UAT is acquired from the newborn infants umbilical cord that has been disposed by 0.5% glutaraldehyde solution. As an device, UAT is required that its inner diameter is 1.0 mm and the outer one varies from l.5 mm to 2.0 mm. There are totally 12 cases, among them, 10 cases underwent aqueous drainage implantation in anterior chamber, 2 cases underwent in vitreous and cooperated with vitreous incise surgery. The mean follow-up period was 2 years and 3 months. Results: The average IOP was 7.8 kPa before operation and was 2.5 kPa during follow-up period. The success rate was 67.9%. Seven cases were no more than 2.8 kPa . One case was 2.7 kPa after using 0.5%Timolol. Complication:one case hemorrhaged in anterior chamber, 2 cases had shallow anterior chamber. There was no severe complication, such as sclera solve or necrosis, UTA exposing or being rejected. Conclusion: UTA implantation is effective in the management of refractory Glaucoma.

Objective To study the surgical effects of frontalis suspension for children blepharoptosis . Methods Frontal muscle suspensions using dacron mesh sling were performed on 164 cases (200 eyes) of children blepharoptosis with dacron mesh sling and home made needles. The follow up periods were 3 months to 2 years (average 5.24 months). Results After the operation, the excellently corrected eyes were 166 (83 %); Under corrected eyes were 32 (16 %); Over corrected eyes were 2 (1 %). Conclusion Frontal muscle suspension using dacron mesh sling is effective to treat children blepharoptosis, which is suitable for the treatments of all kinds of children blepharoptosis. [

Objective: Our purpose was to observe the effect of epithelial scrape injury on corneal morphology. Methods: Twenty 4-week-old white rabbits were used. We scraped the corneal epithelia of the left eye of each rabbit (0.2 mm near the limbus of corneal were left in 10 eyes, in the remaining rabbits within 8 mm in the center). The right eyes were control group. We observed the healing of corneal protrusion with slit-lamp microscope, examined the corneal form with corneal topography, and measured the depth of anterior chamber and the corneal thickness with A-ultrasound. Results: The extensive epithelial scrape significantly increased the healing time. The corneal protrusion of experimental group and the depth of anterior chamber increased. The corneal thickness became thinner. Conclusion: The extensive epithelial injury can make cornea thinner, which results in the changes of corneal protrusion.

Objective To assess the clinical significance of endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) in the diagnosis and preoperative staging of gastric cancer. Methods EUS was carried out in 22 patients inclu-ding 17 gastric cancer patients and 5 patients in suspicion. Helical CT scanning was performed in all of the patients and fine needle aspiration biopsies ( FNAB) were administrated to 5 suspicious patients. Compared the results of operation and pathology with those of tumor staging by estimating the depth of tumor invasion ( T) , local lymph node metastasis ( N) and metastasis to neighboring or remote organs ( M) in order to esti-mate the accuracy of diagnosis and TNM staging. The sensitivity and specificity of tumor-node-metastasis staging of gastric cancer by EUS were compared with those of the spiral CT according to the final histopatho-logical results. Results In 5 suspicious patients specimens were successfully obtained by FNAB under the guide of EUS with the pathological diagnosis of adenocarcinoma in 4 cases and signet ring cell carcinoma, 1 case. All patients underwent radical gastrectomy except one in T1N0M0, staging was treated by endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR). The sensitivity and specificity of EUS in T, N, and M stage were 84.9% and 74. 2% , 92. 1% and 77. 1% , 63. 4% and 87. 5% respectively; whereas those of CT in T, N, and M stage were 27. 3% and 75% , 31.5% and 100% , 50% and 100% respectively. The sensitivity of EUS in T and N staging were higher than those of CT with significant statistical difference (P
