Objective: To evaluate the application of two-dimension and color Doppler ultrasound in diagnosis and differential diagnosis of fascial space infection in maxillofacial region. Methods: Retrospective analysis was conducted on 87 cases of maxillofacial space infections, among which there were 6 suspected cases of accompanying tumor. Results: In the 87 cases, 53 had abscess formation, confirmed by operative drainage or puncture biopsy. The pathological studies revealed 2 cases of Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, and 1 case of branchial cleft cyst accompanied with infection. The 3 cases showed characteristic appearance in ultrasonic imaging. The space infection presented stronger echogenicity than that in tumors. In this study, 95% (83/87) cases showed grey or medium echogenic dots, while 4.5% (4/87) cases did not show obvious echogenic dots due to a large amount of abscess, and 2 cases of tumors, however, did not show any echogenic dots. In addition, 87% (76/87) cases had few blood flow in the lesion areas, and 22% (2/87) cases had much blood flow in the lesion areas. All cases showed that the lesion areas and the blood flow reduced obviously with enhanced echo following anti-inflammatory treatment except 2 cases accompanied with tumor without obvious changes in lesion areas and blood flow. Conclusion: The ultrasonic diagnosis with two dimension and color Doppler ultrasound has high accuracy in diagnosis of maxillofacial space infection, with accordance rate up to 96.6%, much higer than CT/MRI. It is suggested that the two dimension and color Doppler ultrasound can be used as a prior choice of diagnosis.

Objective To investigate the effect of norcantharidin on growth inhibition and induction of apoptosis of human rectal cancer Colo 320 cells. Methods Norcantharidin (NCTD) in different concentrations were added to rectal cancer Colo 320 cells. Morphological characteristics of apoptosis were observed using the light microscope and transmission electron microscope. The expressions of Bag-1 and Bcl-2 proteins were tested by Western blotting. The growth inhibition of Colo 320 cells on the cell cycle was observed by flow cytometry. Results The apoptosis morphological changes of Colo 320 cells were observed by the light microscope and transmission electron microscopy. Flow cytometry analysis showed that the cell count of G2/M phase in experimental group was higher than that in control group ( <0.05) but the cell counts of G0/G1 and S phases have decreased in experimental group after treatment with NCTD at the concentrations of 5μg/mL, 10μg/mL and 20 μg/mL, and presented dosage dependence relations. The expressions of Bag-1 and Bcl-2 proteins have decreased. Conclusion Norcantharidin has inhibitory effect on rectal cancer Colo 320 cells, and the effect may be related to the cell cycle arrest and apoptosis.

Objective To study the radioprotective effect of indole-3-carbinol (I3C) acid condensation products. Methods Cell colony formation assay was used to determine cell survival rate, and Western Blot assay was employed to measure protein expression. Results Seven kinds of the I3C acid condensation products showed different radioprotective effect on normal fibrous epithelial cells 184A1,among which 24 h pre-treatment of CTET (1 μmol/L),LTET (1 μmol/L),HI-IM (1 μmol/L) and 3,3'-diindoly methane (DIM) (0.3 μmol/L) showed significant increase of cell survival rate following irradiation with γ-ray,and the difficence was statistically significant (P<0.05,P<0.01).However,CT (1 μmol/L),LTr-1 (1 μmol/L) and ICZ (1 μmol/L) showed no effect on cell survival rate caused by radiation (P>0.05).Furthermore,CTET,LTET,HI-IM and DIM activated the phosphorylation of ATM,BRCA1 and NBS1 proteins.HI-IM significantly decreased radiation-caused cell death and apoptosis. Conclusions CTET,LTET,HI-IM,and DIM can significantly reduce the radiosensitivity in 184A1 cells, and the mechanism may be related to the regulation of DNA damage and the repair of protein phosphorylation.

Objective To explore the optimum concentration of bioactive glass that promotes early enamel caries remineralization. Methods Fresh bovine incisors were selected and used for enamel specimen preparation. All specimens were randomly divided into two groups:micro hardness group and fluorescence group. Both groups were further divided into 3%, 6%and 9%groups. These specimens were placed in containers with demineralization liquid at 37℃for 72 hours. Then they were treat with 3%, 6%and 9%bioactive glass solution respectively twice a day for 5 minutes each. Samples in all three groups were dipped circularly into an artificial demineralization solution and an artificial saliva solution for 15 days. The mi?crohardness of enamel surface was measured before and after demineralization and remineralization. The different value of microhardness before and after remineralization was calculated. The thickness of fluorescence beneath the surface of early enamel caries was observed to evaluate the extend of remineralization effect. Results The difference in value of micro hard?ness in 6%group was the highest while that in 3%group was the lowest. The differences were significant. The difference in value of demineralization depth in 6%group was greater than those in 3%and 9%groups (P<0.05). There was no statistical?ly significance between those in 3%group and 9%group. Conclution The optimum concentration of bioactive glass solu?tion that promotes the remineralization of early enamel caries is 6%, which is ideal for remineralization of early enamel caries.

The ability to pattern multiple cells through precise surface engineering of cell culture substrates has promoted the development of cellular bioassays, such as differentiation, interaction and molecular signaling pathways. There are several well developed ways to pattern cells. This report describes a method for patterning multiple types of cells based on microfluidics and self-assembled monolayers. We developed two types of micro-dam structures by soft-lithography to locate cells precisely and modified the substrate by a kind of self-assembled monolayer with property of electrochemical desorption to confine cells in specific areas. Finally we could pattern an array of two different types of cells closely and precisely. Cells were confined in specific areas but still shared the same microenvironment, so they could interact through soluble molecules. The substrate was transparent and open, so we could easily apply several instruments for research. With these merits, this cell chip is appropriate for investigating the interaction between different types of cells.
