Chinese Journal of Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine in Intensive and Critical Care 2001;8(2):105-108
Objective:To study the influences of astragulas(黄芪) on cerebroischemiareperf usion injury in gerbils. Methods:The cerebral tissue delayed neuron death(DND) models of gerbil were established by means of ligating bilateral carotid arteries for 15 minutes then reperfusing for 48 hours and divided into shamoperation(SO) group, ischemiareperfusion(IR) group and astragulas injection (AI,黄芪注射液) group. The activities of Na +K+ATPase and nitric oxide synthase(NOS) and the changes in contents of nitric oxide(NO) and excitat ory amino acid(EAA) in cerebral tissue were compared in different groups.Results:(1)In comparison with SO group the activities of Na+K+ATPase in IR and AI group were obviously decreased furthermore the decreases in IR group were mo re significant than those in AI group(all P<0.01).(2) The changes in co nten ts of lactic acid(LD) in cerebral tissue in all the groups had not statistically significance.(3)In comparison with SO group the activitis of NOS and the conten ts of NO in IR and AI group were reduced but the reductions in IR group were muc h more significant (P<0.05).(4)The contents of glutamic acid(Glu) in IR and AI group were higher than those in SO group and the increases in IR group w .05),meanwhile they in IR group were higher than those in AI group but the di fference was not significant.(6)Among all the groups the contents of γam inobutyric a cid (γGABA) and glycine(Gly) had not significant differences (all P>0.05).Conclusions:The mechanisms of astragulas on anticerebral ischemiareperfusion inj ury may be related to its preventing the reductions of activities of Na+K +ATPase,NO S,and the decreases in synthetic volume of NO as well as its heightening the con tents of EAA after ischemia of brain tissue.

Journal of Clinical Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery 2014;29(8):729-732
OBJECTIVE:
To investigate and analyze the status of anxiety and depression among patients with four types of peripheral vertigo.
METHOD:
The clinical data of patients with one of the four types of peripheral vertigo, namely benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), vestibular migraine (VM), Menière's disease (MD), and vestibular neuritis (VN), were collected. Thorough otological and neuro-otological examinations were performed on these patients, and their status of anxiety and depression were assessed using self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) and self-rating depression scale (SDS).
RESULT:
A total of 129 patients with one of the four types of peripheral vertigo(49 cases of BPPV, 37 cases of VM, 28 cases of MD and 15 cases of VN) were included in the study. The scores of SAS and SDS were higher in the patients with VM or MD than those with BPPV or VN (P < 0.05), and the incidence of anxiety (VM = 45.9% MD = 50.0%) and depression (VM = 27.0% MD = 28.6%) were higher in the patients with VM or MD than those with BPPV or VN (P < 0.05). Paired comparisons showed the differences between the incidences of BPPV and MV groups, BPPV and MD groups, and MD and VN groups were statistically significant (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSION
Among patients with different types of peripheral vertigo, anxiety/depression is more common in patients with VM or MD. This may be due to the different mechanisms involved in different types of vertigo, as well as differences in the prevention and self-control of the patients against the vertigo.

Objective To investigate the effect of Buyanghuanwu decoction(BYHWD) on angiogenesis and Ang-1/Tie-2 expression after focal cerebral ischemia in mice. Methods Focal cerebral ischemia was induced by 30 min of middle cerebral artery occlusion followed by reperfusion. BYHWD (20 g/kg) was administered orally 24 h after ischemia and once a day. The neurological score and the corner test were used to evaluate sensorimotor function during 28 days after ischemia. The microvessels density and the expression of Ang-1/Tie-2 in the ischemic boundary zone were determined by immunohistochemistry on 28 days after ischemia. Results Compared with the model group, BYHWD significantly ameliorated neurological dysfunction and reduced the number of right turn during 3 to 28 days after ischemia(P<0.05 ). In addition, the numbers of CD31 ,Ang-1 and Tie-2 immunopositive cells were (437 ±59) ,(389 ±61 ) and (251 ±42) at the boundary zone in model group 28 days after ischemia, respectively. However, BYHWD treatment significantly increased the numbers of CD31(609 ± 68 ), Ang-1 (551 ±66) and Tie-2 (342 ±46) immunopositive cells(P<0. 01 ). Conclusion BYHWD promotes angiogenesis, which may contribute to recovery of neurological function after focal cerebral ischemia, and Ang-1/Tie-2 pathway appears to mediate BYHWD-induced angiogenesis.

Quality control of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has become bottlenecks of TCM industry devel-opment and TCM international recognition. To solve the retational problems, we explored the establishment of new quality control method based on efficacy and safety. Firstly, material basis of TCM efficacy was investigated deeply and systematically. Then, quality control method based on efficacy was established by using active ingre-dients as markers. We also establish detection methods based on safety, such as pesticide residues, heavy metals and harmful elements , mycotoxins .

Liver ferritin of Sphyrna zygaena(SZLF) with purity of mass spectrum was prepared in batch. Under) the condition of acidifying medium at pH 1.0, PAGE showed that SZLF subunits treated for 20 min began) to dissociate. A whole process of subunit dissociation and recombination was monitored by transmission electron microscopy(TEM). In addition, the changes of size of both protein shell and iron core were also determined) by TEM directly. It was found that in the acid dissociation process of SZLF subunits, the size of iron) core and protein shell showed the same trend of change, which might be related to not only the iron release) of inner iron core but the dissociation and unfolding of the protein shell. The passway of SZLF recombination is a fast step, which is a conversion process from incompact moltenglobule to compact ferritin. Under the assistant of matrix acidity pH 3.0 and laser, SZLF mixed with horse spleen ferritin(HSF) still has capacity to release) its subunits to form subunit ions for mass analysis by a MALDI-TOF mass spectrometer, which indicates that the interaction intensity between the subunits was weaken but they were not unfolded under this pH condition. TEM technology can be applied in studying both dissociation and recombination in ferritin subunits.

Objective To investigate the diagnostic value of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS), and compare it with contrast-enhanced CT(CECT). Methods Eighty-one focal liver lesions were evaluated with CEUS and CECT, diagnostic value of two modalities were calculated, vaseularity manifestations of two modalities in arterial phase were compared. Results The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and accuracy of CEUS were 96.6 %, 86.9 %, 94.9 %, 90.9 %, 93. 80%, respectively, and the diagnostic value of CECT were 98.3%, 82. 6%, 93.4%, 95.0%, 93.8%, respectively. Among all the metastasis, hypervascular manifestation lesions in arterial phase of CEUS and CECT were 72% (18/25) and 32% (8/25)( P <0.05). Conclusions The diagnostic value of CEUS and CECT in focal liver lesions are comparably satisfying, and there is no significant difference between them, the combination use of two modalities would improve the diagnosis performance. CEUS can show more hypervaseular metastasis than CECT in arterial phase.
