Purpose: To analyze the treatment effects by radiotherapy alone and radiotherapy plus chemotherapy of carotid artery intubation after operation for malignant astrocytoma. Materials and Methods: 135 patients with malignant astrocytoma were treated from August, 1987 to November, 1992. Patients were divided into two groups after operation: 71 patients received radiotherapy alone and 64 patients, combination therapy of chemotherapy (BCNU) plus radiotherapy. All patients received DT 55~70Gy. In combination therapy group, BCNU(250mg) was given daily by carotid artery intubation for 4~15 days.Radiotherapy was given 10~15 days after chemotherapy, then followed by 1~3 intubation. Results: The median survival were 17.5 months in radiotherapy alone group and 31.9 months in combination one.Patients with glioblastoma gave the better results with the 2-,3-,and 5- year survivals of 70%, 36% and 15%, respectively. Conclusion: Chemotherapy (BCNU) of intubation plus radiotherapy is preferable in treating malignant astrocytoma after operation.

Objective To improve the therapeutic response and survival of locally advanced pancreatic cancer treated with radiochemotherapy. Methods Fifty nine patients with stage Ⅱ Ⅲ pancreatic cancer were divided into two groups: 33 patients were treated with three dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3DCRT) plus regional intra arterial infusion chemotherapy (CT)and 26 patients received 3DCRT alone. Results The response (pain alleviating) rates were 78.8% in 3DCRT+CT group and 80.8% in 3DCRT group, while the overall response (CR+PR) rates were 78.8% and 42.3% (P

Objective To study the design and fabricating method, biomechanical effect and practicablity of the orthosis for patients suffering from large femoral bone defect and leg length discrepancy and study the effect of the orthosis on patients' equilibrium, walking function and gait. Methods By four stages we finally made ischial weight bearing orthosis with prosthetic feet, and then analysed its biomechanical effect and efficiency, evaluated balance and walking function of patients. Results The orthosis, according with principle of biomechanics, realized patients' wish of walking without crutch. The energy consumption and balanced capacity of patients wearing orthosis were much better while walking distance parameters came close to normal. Conclusion Ischial weight bearing orthosis with prosthetic feet can help patients reconstruct walking function, therefore can be recommended.
