AIM To study the inhibitory effect of nimodipine on apoptosis induced by cerebral ischemia. METHODS Incomplete cerebral ischemia was made by ligating bilateral common carotid arteries(CCA) in rats. The apoptosis was determined by terminal deoxy-nucleotidyl transforase-mediated dUTP-digoxigenin nick end-labeling(Tunel) method. The DNA fragmentation analysis was measured with the diphenylamine reagent method. RESULTS Ligting of bilateral CCA markedly produced apoptotic cell in cerebral cortex. Nim 2 mg?kg -1 significantly decreased the numbers of apoptotic cells in cortex; Nim 1 mg?kg -1 , 2 mg?kg -1 also inhibited the increase of DNA fragmentation induced by cerebral ischemia. CONCLUSION Nim has inhibitory effect on ischemia-induced apoptosis of cerebral cortex.

Objective To analyze the clinical features, etiology and antibiotics-resistance in purulent meningitis cases identified in our hospital during the recent 5 years. Methods Clinical data were collected and the etiology and antibiotics-resistance were analyzed in 36 children with purulent meningitis during Jan 2007 to Oct 2011,and all cases were identified by a positive cerebrospinal fluid culture. Results There were 2 267 cerebrospinal fluid samples cultured and only 36 samples showed positive results and the rate was 1.6%,and 27 strains (75.0%,27/36) were Gram positive cocco bacteria. The most common bacterium was coagulase negative Staphylococcus and the ratio was 50.0% (18/36),followed by Escherichia coli ( 13.9%,5/36),Streptococcus pneumonia ( 11.1%,4/36) and Staphylococcus aureus ( 8.3%,3/36).Drug sensitive test showed that 95.2% of the Staphylococcus was β-lactamase positive and resistant to penicillin, and 33.3% were sensitive to oxacillin. The death rate was 13.9% (5/36).Conclusion Staphylococcus,Escherichia coli and Streptococcus pneumonia are the top three pathogens causing purulent meningitis in children in our hospital, and clinicians should choose antibiotics according to the result of drug sensitive test.

Journal of Practical Stomatology 2010;26(1):20-23
Objective: To compare the similarities and differences of teeth movement at different time points after distraction osteogenesis, and to explore the best time point of teeth movement after distraction osteogenesis. Methods: The experiment was carried out on 8 beagle dogs. Group I: started teeth movement at the second week after distraction osteogenesis. Group Ⅱ: started teeth movement at the sixth week after distraction osteogenesis. Analyzed the root, periodontal ligament and alveolar bone by physical measurement, X-rays and HE staining methods. Results: In the second and sixth week after distraction osteogenesis, the distance between the third and fourth premolar teeth reduced significantly(P<0.05), there was a remarkable difference between group I and group Ⅱ(P<0.05). Conclusion: Under the same force, the speed of tooth movement in the second week is faster than that in the sixth week, but periodontal absorption in the second week is more serious than that in the sixth week.

Objective To investigate the epididymal sperm ultrastructure after vasectomy. Methods During the operation of vasovasostomy (38 cases, test group) and vasectomy (13 cases, control group, group A) the proximal vas deferens fluids were collected. The epididymal sperm morphology in the proximal vas deferens fluids was observed using optical and electronic microscopes.Data were analyzed by SPSS program. Results The data from group A showed that there was no significant difference between left and right side in the percentage of normal sperm morphology. The results from both optical and electronic microscopes showed that there was a significant difference in the percentage of normal sperm morphology (a),abnormal sperm head (b),sperm with neck defect (c) and sperm with tail defect (d) between group A and group B(5 years after vasectomy). (electronic microscopes:(a):(40.28?11.53)% vs (16.80?7.93)%,(6.29? 4.57 )%,( 4.63? 5.06 )%; (b):(35.00?14.18)% vs (59.05?14.44)%,(63.43?15.23)%,(82.05? 16.71 )%;(c):(20.83? 6.40 )% vs (13.60?6.78)%,( 14.71? 6.82)%,(9.00?7.18)%;(d):(3.89?4.44)% vs (10.55?11.73)%,(15.57?9.81)%,(4.32?7.65)%. optical microscopes:(a):(49.12?20.55)% vs (19.95?15.42)%,(10.00?9.50)%,(5.84?9.63)%; (b):(35.00?14.55)% vs (22.55?16.24)%,(14.71?15.78)%,(10.68?18.65)%; (d):(15.80?9.55)% vs (57.50?24.74)%,(75.29?23.90)%,(78.21?30.33)%.There existed multi-cell organ and multi-form abnormalities in the inner structures of sperm heads, necks and tails. Conclusions The epididymal sperm defect (including head, neck and tail) after vasectomy was demonstrated in the inner cell organs. The longer after vasectomy, the higher percentage of sperm with abnormality was found.

Objective :
To evaluate the effect of 2. 5% NaClO solution as irrigating agent on the healing of dental pulp after preservation treatment in rats with inflammatory pulp.
Methods :
48 maxillary molars of 24 8 ⁃week⁃old male SD rats were selected and pulpitis models were established by pulp cavity exposure for 24 hours. Then part of the crown pulp was removed and divided into two groups according to different irrigation methods : 2. 5% NaClO flushing group (NaClO) and saline flushing group (NS) . The pulp was covered with iRoot BP Plus and the cavity was sealed with glass ionomer. Four animals in the two groups were killed on the 1st , 7th and 28th day after opera⁃ tion , respectively. And the inflammatory reaction , tissue destruction and hard tissue formation of residual dental pulp tissue were observed and evaluated by histopathology.
Results :
The pulp inflammatory reaction , tissue de⁃ struction and restorative dentin formation in 2. 5% NaClO irrigation group and saline irrigation group were similar on the 1st , 7th and 28th day after operation , there was no significant difference between the two groups.
Conclusion
2. 5% NaClO used as a hemostatic before iRoot BP Plus pulp capping after partial pulpotomy has similar effect with normal saline on the inflammatory pulp model of rats , and does not affect the healing of pulp inflammation.
