Objective To study the effect of Qi-Gong relaxation training on the operation-related psychological stress and the post-operative psychosomatic adjustment in upper-abdominal surgery patients. Methods Forty-two patients undergoing upper-abdominal surgery in intervention group were instructed to do Qi-Gong relaxation training, and forty patients matched were controls without Qi-Gong relaxation training. On the day before surgery, a self-developed patients' pre-operative appraisal questionnaire, a self-developed patients' pre-operative behavior rating questionnaire for completion by medical workers, and State Anxiety Inventory (SAI) of State -Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) were used in two groups. In an hour before operation, the shift of the mean value of pulse and systolic pressure of every case compared with the base line measured at his (or her) admission was also recorded. After surgery, patients were assessed with a self-developed patients' post-operative appraisal questionnaire, a self-developed patients' post-operative behavior rating questionnaire for completion by medical workers and SAI of STAI. Besides, the indexes of physical rehabilitation, including intestinal aerofluxus, total dosage of analgesia and so on, were recorded. Data were analysed in t-test with SPSS. Results Compared with controls, the patients in intervention group had more positive anticipation about the following operation, lower pre- and post-operative anxiety, and lighter post-operative pain experience. There was no difference in the indexes of physical rehabilitation between two groups. Conclusions Qi-Gong relaxation training could lead patients to better psychological adjustment both before and after operation. This finding suggests that Qi-Gong relaxation training could be used as an effective psycho-behavior intervention in abdominal surgery patients.

AIM: To observe anti inflammatory, anti bacterial and immune regulation effects of shuyanling soft capsule. METHODS: The dimethylbenzene induced the degree of ear swelling in mice and turpentine induced proliferation in rats were used to observe the anti inflammation effects of shuyanling soft capsule. The anti bacterial effects were observed both in vitro and in vivo. The immune regulation effects were studied by the splenocyte proliferation response, the activity of antibody producing cells and the phagocytosis of leukocyte in mice. RESULTS: Shuyanling soft capsule inhibited dimethylbenzene induced the degree of ear swelling in mice and turpentine induced proliferation in rats, protected the mice from the infections of staphylcoccus aureus and salmonella typhi, and repressed sixteen kinds of bacterium in vitro. Furthermore, the capsule remarkably enhanced the phagocytosis of neutropil and increased the activity of spleen antibody producing cells and the transformation of the T and B cell in spleen in mice. CONCLUSION: Shuyanling soft capsule has anti inflammatory, anti bacterial and immune regulation effects.

Objective: To investigate the correlation between stress reaction and other related psychological stress factors such as life events, social support, and coping style in neurosis patients comparing with the group of healthy persons. Methods: 88 neurosis and 100 healthy persons were examined with LES (Life Event Scale), PSSS (Perceived Social Support Scale), TCSQ (Trait Coping Style Questionnaire), SRQ(Stress Reaction Questionnaire). Results: The scores of stress reaction, family events and negative coping style of neurosis group were significantly higher than those of healthy group, and the scores of social support out of family and positive coping style were significantly lower than those of healthy group. The regression analysis and path analysis revealed that in neurosis group stress reaction was directly correlated with negative coping style and social events, but in healthy group it was correlated with negative coping style and family events. Conclusion: Stress reaction may be directly affected with negative coping style and social events in neurosis patients, whereas it may be done with negative coping style and family events in healthy persons.

Objective To explore the effects of strength training on aging muscular atrophy and inflammatory factors levels in old men. Methods 11 old men participated in 12 weeks of strength training. Muscle strength/muscle thickness and serum levels of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, interleukin (IL)-6, high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) and adiponectin were measured before and after training. Results After training, the muscle thickness increased, but there was no significantly difference (P>0.05); the levels of hsCRP decreased (P<0.001) and adiponectin increased (P<0.05). Conclusion Strength training may assist in maintaining or improving muscle strength/muscle mass and reducing inflammatory factors levels.

AIM To study the inhibitory effect of bioactive compounds from entomogenous fungi(BCEF0083) on monoamine oxidase. METHODS Spectrofluorometer was used to detect the activity of MAO in mouse and rat brain mitochondria; Dose effect and time effect relationship of BCEF in inhibition of MAO were studied in vivo and in vitro in mice and rats; Method of Lineweaver Burk was used to assay the Km of MAO. RESULTS The antagoning action of BCEF0083 on MAO( BCEF 500 mg?kg -1 , 0 5, 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 24, 48, 72 h after ig; 500, 400, 200, 100, 50, 25 mg?kg -1 , 2 h after ig)showed some extent of dose effect and time effect relationship. BCEF0083 in vitro inhibited the activity of MAO A,B in a dose dependent manner with IC 50 (95% of confidence limits)of 128 88(82 70~200 86),184 14(156 17~217 11) ?g?ml -1 in rats. The antagonism type of BCEF0083 on MAOA, B were both mixed type, their Km were 11 97, 8 13 ?mol?L -1 . CONCLUSION The results suggest that BCEF0083 could obviously inhibite the activity of MAO on brain remitochondria in mice and rats.
