OBJECTIVE:To study the antihyperglycemic activity of Herba Taraxaci polysaccharides.METHODS:1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-2-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH) radical scavenging and FRAP assays were used to analyze the antioxidant activity of Herba Taraxaci polysaccharides;the inhibitory activity of ?-glucosidase in vitro was tested by micromethod; the diabetic mice model was established using alloxan. After intragastric administration of Herba Taraxaci polysaccharide for 14 days, the fasting serum glucose and antioxidant parameters (SOD,MDA and GSH-Px) in dissected liver tissue were assayed. RESULTS:The TEAC values assayed by DPPH and FRAP methods were 564.98 ?molTE?g-1 and 1 399.55 ?molTE?g-1,respectively; and the IC50 value of Herba Taraxaci polysaccharides against ?-glucosidase was 49.27 ?g?mL-1.Herba Taraxaci polysaccharides had no effect on serum polysaccharides and antioxidant parameters in normal mice, but which significantly down-regulated the fasting serum glucose of diabetic mice especially at a high dosage(P
4.Role of p38MAPK in substance P-induced activation of spinal cord astrocytes in vitro
Journal of Third Military Medical University 2003;0(08):-
Objective To investigate the relationship between p38MAPK and astrocytes activation by detecting the changes of p38MAPK,TNF-?,NO and NOS in the substance P-induced activation of spinal cord astrocytes in vitro. Methods Astrocytes, cultured from spinal cord of SPF rat and identified by immunofluorescence method with GFAP antibody, were grouped into the control group, the SP stimulus group(SP group) and the SB203580 interrupt p38MAPK group(interrupt group) in which SP(10-7 mol/L) and SB203580(10 ?mol/L) were added to the supernatant for 12 h.The WB method,RT-PCR and ELISA were used to determine the changes of p38MAPK,phosphorylated p38MAPK,GFAP mRNA,TNF-?,NO and NOS in the astrocytes or supernatant at 1,3,12,24 and 36 h respectively. Results The GFAP positive rate of the cultured cells was higher than 95%.p38MAPK level in the SP group did not have any change, whereas p-p38 level increased significantly after 1 h and GFAP mRNA,NO,NOS and TNF-? level increased after 3 h.When p38MAPK pathway was inhibited by SB203580 in the SP+SB group,GFAP mRNA,NO,NOS and TNF-? were significantly reduced compared with those in the SP group. The level of p38MAPK,p-p38,GFAP mRNA,NO,NOS and TNF-? in the SB group did not have changes compared with those in the normal group. Conclusion These results indicate that p38MAPK signal pathway contributes to substance P induced activation of spinal cord astrocytes according to inflammatory factors attenuation after p38MAPK signal pathway interruption by SB203580.

Endophytic fungi which reside in the tissue of mangrove plants seem to play an important role in the discovery of new biologically active substances. During the course of screening for the antimicrobial metabolites from the endophytic fugus Penicillium sp. FJ-1 of mangrove plant Avicennia marina, a new aurone glycoside (1) was isolated by repeated column chromatography on silica gel and recrystallization methods. The structure of 1 was elucidated as (Z)-7,4'-dimethoxy-6-hydroxy-aurone-4-O-β-glucopyranoside, on the basis of spectroscopic analysis. Compound 1 exhibited antifungal activity against Candida sp., with the potency comparable to amphotericin B and much better than fluconazole. Compound 1 can also inhibit extracellular phospholipase secretion in a concentration-dependent manner.

Academic Journal of Second Military Medical University 2000;21(7):610-614
Objective: To compare the prompt fixation strength and antifatigue strength of the locking and non-locking anterior cervical plating systems. Methods:AO Cervical Spine Locking Plate (CSLP), Danek Orion plate and AcroMed Acroplate were used on the lamb cervical spines. The CSLP and Orion were tested with screws locked and unlocked, and the Acroplate with unicortical and bicortical purchase. The fixation strength and pull-off strength of the screw-plate constructs were performed initially and after fatigue. Results: Locked CSLP and Orion constructs were more rigid than all unlocked unicortical systems initially and after cyclic loading. After fatigue testing, the strength of all unlocked constructs decreased significantly. There was no significant difference in pull-off strength between the CSLP, the Orion and the unicortical Acroplate. Conclusion: The locking mechanism significantly increases the prompt fixation strength and antifatigue strength of the tested screw-plate systems.

Chinese Journal of Urology 2010;31(3):194-198
Objective To investigate the prevalence of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in Beijing. Methods A cross-sectional study was performed at Beijing communities in men aged over 50 years. The International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) questionnaire was used to evaluate the symptoms. Transabdominal ultrasonography was used to measure prostate size and the residual urine volume(RUV). Uroflowmetry was performed to record the maximum flow(Q_(max)). One-way ANOVA was used to analysis the differences. Results 1644 subjects were enrolled and the mean age was 64. 5 years (range 50 - 93 years). The mean IPSS, prostate weight andQ_(max) were 9. 9±8. 2, (30. 8± 19.4) and (14. 7 ± 7. 5)ml/s, respectively. They had correlation with age (r=0. 388,0. 262, - 0.371). The prevalence of moderate-severe lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) was 50. 8% (835/1644). Prostate volume was greater than 20 ml in 69. 7%(1146/1644) of the subjects.Q_(max) was less than 15 ml/s in 53. 8% (883/1642) of the subjects. Conclusions In men age over 50 years in Beijing, there is positive correlation between LUTS, prostate size and age, and negative correlation between Q_(max) and age. The prevalence of BPH, defined as IPSS greater than 7, maxium flow rate less than 15 ml/s and prostate size greater than 20 ml, is 26. 8%(441/1644).
