AIM: To clarify the effect of the specific sodium-hydrogen antiporter HOE642 on ischemia/reperfusion(I/R) injury including apoptosis, and the relationship between its effect and the time of HOE642 administration. METHODS: The isolated rat heart model were randomly divided into group A and B. Furthermore, the rat hearts in group A were divided into four subgroups including I/R, HOE-Pr+I/R, HOE-Is+I/R and HOE-Re, also the rat hearts in group B were divided into the following subgroups including control, I/R and HOE642+I/R. The LVDP, LVEDP, arrythmia coronary flow and the enzymatic activity in myocardium were measured in group A, and TUNEL method was applied to probe apoptosis in group B. RESLUTS: It was found that the LVEDP, arrythmias and the enzymatic activity including CK-MB and LDH were significantly lower in group HOE-Pr+I/R than that in group I/R, while the LVDP was obviously higher in HOE-Pr+I/R than that in I/R. The administration of HOE642 during ischemia could decrease LVEDP, arrythmias and enzymatic activity in myocardium, but not the LVDP. Furthermore, the results showed that HOE642 could inhibit apoptosis induced by ischemic/reperfusion injury. CONCLUSIONS: HOE642 is an effective cardio-protector in case of ischemic/reperfusion injury especially when it is applied before ischemia. The inhibition of apoptosis might be involved in the mechanisms underlying the protective effect of HOE642.

Digitalization is an important method for the objectification and quantification of quality control on Chi-nese herbal medicine. To solve the problem of texture online visualization of Chinese herbal medicine and the estab-lishment of automatic identification method based on the texture, 12 Chinese herbal medicines were selected to cap-ture the images of their transverse sections. A total of 11 features were extracted from images using Gray-level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM) method. Through analyzing the influence of distances and angles between pixels on identi-fication results, it was concluded that when the distance was d = 3 and the angle was ? = 0o, the features extracted were suitable for expressing the texture of the transverse sections. The results indicated the feasibility of establishing the automatic identification method on Chinese herbal medicine based on image of transverse section. It will provide new technologies for the objectification and quantification of identification on Chinese herbal medicine.

Objective To study the pathogenesis, clinical characteristics, laboratory tests, treatments and prognosis of con-genital factorⅦdeficiency. Methods The clinical data of two cases of congenital factorⅦdeficiency diagnosed at the Chil-dren’s Hospital of Fudan University and 9 cases reported in the past 10 years retrieved from Pubmed, Web of Knowledge and CNKI, Wangfang database by using the factorⅦdeficiency , congenital, newborn and case report as keyword were reviewed and analyzed. Results All cases were full term birth with normal birth weight (>2 500 g), including 4 females and 7 males. Pa-rental consanguinity was found in 3 cases, and a family history was found in 3 cases. The laboratory tests were characterized by significantly prolonged prothrombin time, normal partial thromboplastin time, and decreased coagulation factorⅦactivity. The coagulation factorⅦactivity of 10 cases were less than 5%. Five cases (45.5%) were treated with human recombinant activated factorⅦ. Four cases (36.4%) treated with plasma or human recombinant activated factorⅦare currently in normal growth and development. Four cases (36.4%) died during the hospitalization. Conclusions A diagnosis of congenital factorⅦdeficiency should be considered in the neonates with severe bleeding, prolonged prothrombin time, normal partial thromboplastin time, and being intractable to vitamin K treatment. Human recombinant activated factorⅦis the first choice of the treatment of congenital factorⅦdeficiency. The further study of gene mutation type will be of great significance for disease screening, diagnosis, treat-ment and prognosis prediction.
