Acta Anatomica Sinica 1953;0(01):-
The attachments of eustachian tube, levator and tensor veli palati muscles on the base of the skull were measured from the skulls of human adults, infants, newborns ad well as monkeys, dogs and rabbits, respectively. Anatomical characteristics of the levator and tensor veli palati muscles that related to eustachian tubal ventilation and skull morphology were analysed. In addition, some head specimens were dissected for contrast. Levator veli palati muscle (LVPM) lies in the posterioinferior of the eustachian tube. The angles between LVPM and median saggital plane and the angles between LVPM and horizontal plane of palate are larger and their ability of raising the eustachian tube is more effective in the adult than in the newborn and animal. From the eustachian tube to the hamulus, tensor veli palati muscle (TVPM) descends almost vertically in the adult, but ventroward in the newborn and animals, which suggested their different actions upon eustachian tube. The skull morphology of the human adult differs from child and animal, which changes the position and function of LVPM and TVPM. In conclusion, eustachian tube was opened by LVPM chiefly in the adult while by TVPM in the newborn and animal. The incidence of otitis media with effusion is higher in the infant as it is the trasitional stage that the action of TVPM had been decreased while that of LVPM would not have been established.

Aim To investigate the effects of co-administration of L-Arginine (L-Arg) and aspirin (ASA) on platelet aggregation in vitro and gastric damage in vivo. Methods Citrate anti-coagulation venous blood was obtained from rabbits. The blood was centrifuged at 1 100 r?min-1 for 10 min to obtain platelet-rich plasma (PRP). 500 ?l of PRP was poured into a cuvette, and then incubated with various concentrations of L-Arg and a small dose of ASA for 5 min. Platelet aggregation was assayed with Chrono-Log platelet aggregometer by changes in light transmission of platelet suspensions. After co-administration of L-Arg and ASA for 7days to rats, gastric damages were induced by water immersion restraint stress or reserpine. Results Co-administrateion of L-Arg and a small dose of ASA strengthened the inhibitory effects on platelet aggregation. Platelet aggregation rate was 6.6% using 3 mmol?L-1 of L-Arg and small dose of ASA. Platelet aggregation rate was 93.9% using the same concentration of L-Arg alone. 1 g?kg-1 of L-Arg and 0.1 g?kg-1ofASA co-administration for 7 days, significantly reduced gastric damage induced by water immersion restraint stress on Wistar rat. Similar results were observed on other animal experiments with gastric lesions induced by reserpine. The effects of L-Arg on prevention of gastric lesion were almost same as that of famotidine. Conclusion Co-administration of L-Arg and ASA can enhance the inhibitory effects on platelet aggregation and prevent gastric damage.

Aim To improve the sensitivity of phycobiliprotein immunofluorescence assay(PBPIFA), by introducing into bridged avidin biotin(BRAB) technique, known as BRAB-PBPIFA. Methods Using ELISA as a gold standard, effectiveness of three assays(direct PBPIFA, BRAB-PBPIFA and ELISA)were compared in simultaneous detection of standard antigen and 500 serum samples. Results BRAB improved greatly sensitivity of PBPIFA in detecting antigen of low concentration, and detection rate of weakly positive samples could increase by one times and a half. In the applying, protein-free blocking agent Tween 20 to BRAB-PBPIFA,possessed better blocking effect. Conclusion Combination of BRAB technique with PBPIFA can improve the detcctive sensitivity.
