Korean Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine 2003;15(2):205-212
BACKGROUND: Recently, social concern about occupational stress and disputes, which are surrounded with judgements of work relatedness for various psychiatric sequels, is increasing. OBJECTIVE: We present a case of work-related illness judgement in which panic disorder and adjustment disorder with conversion symptoms were associated with work stress due to job reallocation. METHODS: We performed psychiatric assessment including mental status examination and neuropsychological test batteries. We also assessed job stress profiles using the Korean version of the Occupational Stress Inventory(K-OSI). RESULTS: The patient showed no specific psychological or physical problems and had previously demonstrated suitable coping skills. However, the patients case, who was sensitive to emotional stress, suffered chronic stress symptoms after a role change from a car mechanic to office manager which required continuous interaction with customers and a strong emotional burden. Panic attack and conversion symptoms were judged to be associated with disharmony between individual characteristics and environmental needs. CONCLUSION: It is noteworthy that this is the first reported case considered as a psychiatric illness related with psychological work stress. A further study will be attempted to assign standards of judgment for similar cases through systematic source collection and tool development.

4.Characteristics of Delinquent Adolescent's Mothers(III).
Journal of Korean Neuropsychiatric Association 1997;36(6):1066-1079
The present study was performed to identify the socio-psychiatric characteristics of mothers of delinquent male adolescent and thus to use them as basic material for ultimate prevention of adolescent delinquency by comparing their views with preceeding delinquent adolescent's own For this, we surveyed 111 mothers of delinquent male adolescent who had educationed in adolescent correctional institution in Pusan(B.B.S.) and 88 mothers of high school students through questionnaire of family environment and psychologic testings. Results were as follows: 1) By large, mothers of delinquent male adolescent were placed in poorer socio-economic conditions than those of control group's. 2) Degree of mantel harmony was nearly identical with preceeding survey of delinquent's The causes of marital disharmony were significant between delinquent and control group(delinquent group-economic difficulties, control group-personality difference). Types and resolution method of marital disharmony were also significant, delinquent group used more violent fighting type and more passive resolution method. 3) Mothers of delinquent male adolescent had low expectancy to their sons' future because of their own children's continuing delinquent behavior and low academic achievement. 4) For overcoming the difficult socio-economic situation, they participate in social activity This factors made them less attention to their children's life and thus their children's delinquent behavior were increased. 5) On results of MMFI test, both group had normal profiles and no significant differences except for L and Pa scores. On results of SCL 90-R test, both group also had normal profiles and no significant differences except for IS score only. According to above results, it would reasonable to introduce practitical, special socio educational program such as parent education and policy.

5.Understanding of children Through Dravings.
Journal of the Korean Medical Association 2003;46(4):335-344
The world-wide universal language of children is drawing. This non-verbal language gives us an insight into how children see, feel, and think about the world around them. For children younger than age 11, drawing is a very effective window through which they can express and reflect their wishes, emotions, thoughts and concerns. Drawing is useful for all children, including those too young to have yet developed language skills. This tool is equally effective when working with children who have been diagnosed with communication disorders. This paper reviews the historical background of the development of the drawing test as a diagnostic tool. In addition, the characteristics of drawings are reviewed according to the stage of child development. Even though a projective drawing gives us lots of hypothetical information regarding a child's internal psychological and emotional state, it is not a formal psychological test in a strict sense. Therefore, it is inaccurate to reach a conclusion about children's psychological problems based only on clues from a drawing. Moreover, it is important to get additional information through means such as post-drawing inquiry and interviews with family members.

BACKGROUND: With a growing number of people using a variety of medications, and suffering from systemic diseases, such as AIDS, Candida infection is also on the rise. This brings the issue of antifungal resistance into the spotlight. OBJECTIVE: This study sought to evaluate the detection of oral Candida and the change of minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) in patients on oral fluconazole for treatment of onychomycosis. METHODS: We studied 25 patients who are on fluconazole for treatment of onychomycosis. We evaluated the MIC and detection of oral Candida at the time of the first visit, at the point of initial dosing, and subsequently, 12 and 24 weeks thereafter, and 12 weeks after the point of final dosing. RESULTS: At the first visit, we collected strains from the oral cavity. At 12 and 24 weeks thereafter, and 12 weeks after final dosing, C. albicans were detected in all cases. MIC measured at the corresponding time points revealed sensitivity in all cases with MIC under 8.0 microg/ml. After 12 and 24 weeks of administration, we identified the same strains at the oral cavity, and MIC of the two regions was elevated. At 12 weeks after the point of final dosing, MIC was decreased or remained the same at the three sites, and the result was the same at 12 and 24 weeks thereafter. CONCLUSION: The purpose of this study was to ascertain that the acquisition of resistance to fluconazole by oral Canadida is not as serious as we had anticipated; however, further studies based on larger patient pools would provide greater assurance.

Journal of Korean Neuropsychiatric Association 2019;58(2):130-137
OBJECTIVES: This study examined the association between executive functions and time perspectives in patients with adult attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The executive function including self-management to time, self-organization/problem solving, self-restraint or inhibition, self-motivation, and self-regulation of emotion was analyzed. In addition, the time perspective, including past-negative, past-positive, present-hedonistic, present-fatalistic, future-negative, and future-positive, were investigated. The correlations between the executive functions and time perspectives were analyzed in an adult ADHD patient group. METHODS: Thirty-six participants were divided into 17 in the ADHD group and 19 in the Control group. The participants conduct psychological tests including Barkley Deficits in Executive Functioning Scale (BDEFS), ADHD Self-Report Scale, and the Swedish Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory to confirm their executive functions, attention, and time perspectives. The participants were recruited at Samsung Medical Center from April 2017 to November 2018. The collected data was analyzed using a t-test and Pearson correlation analysis. RESULTS: The adult ADHD patients group showed significantly higher scores in the BDEFS and ADHD Self-Report Scale than the control group. In time perspective scores, the adult ADHD patients group was higher in the past-negative, present-hedonistic, present-fatalistic time perspectives than the control group. In addition, the adult ADHD patients group was lower in future-positive than the control group. In the adult ADHD patients group, the future-positive time perspectives were negatively correlated with the executive functions. CONCLUSION: These results suggest that the negative time perspective is related to the executive function deficits in an adult ADHD group, particularly in the self-management of time, self-organization/problem solving, and self-motivation.

Korean Journal of Preventive Medicine 1997;30(2):356-368
In effort to determine whether aircraft noise can have health effects such as hearing loss, hypertension and psychological stress, a total of 111 male professors and administrative officers working a college near a military airport in Korea(exposed group) and a total of 168 males and 112 females matched by age groups(control groups) were analyzed. Personal noise exposure and indoor and outdoor sound level of jet aircraft noise were measured at the exposed area. And pure tone, air conduction test and measurement of blood pressure were given to the exposed(males) and matched control groups(males and females). BEPSI(Brief Encounter Psychological Instrument) and psychological response to aircraft noise were examined for the exposed group. The noise dosimetry results revealed time-weighted averages(TWAs) that ranged from 61 to 68 dBA. However the levels encountered during taking off jet airplanes reached 126 dBA for two half minutes time period. The audiometric test showed that mean values of HTL(hearing threshold level) in exposed group at every frequency(500, 1,000, 2,000, 4,000, and 8,000 Hz were much lower than them of male and female control groups. And in old age groups, interaction of age and noise was observed at 8,000 Hz in both ears(p< 0.05). Conclusively, aircraft noise does not appear to induce hearing loss directly, but may decreased hearing threshold level by interaction of aging process and noise exposure. However, difference of mean values of exposed and control groups on blood pressure was not significantly. In psychological test, annoyance was the most severe psychological response to noise in exposed group, but mean value of BEPSI was not correlated with job duration in exposed group
