The rapid development of molecular genetic test makes it possible to screen and to diagnosis thousands of genetic diseases. Accordingly, the needs for prenatal genetic diagnosis for non-chromosomal genetic diseases are increasing. Prenatal genetic diagnosis and appropriate counselling is an important part of the overall scheme of prenatal care. Therefore, we are going to review the general principles of prenatal diagnosis and its clinical applications with several practical cases.

4.Using the Fluorescence in Situ Hybridization technique for prenatal diagnosis of Down’s syndrome
Journal of Practical Medicine 2005;530(11):9-11
Fluorescence in Situ Hybridization (FISH) is cytogenetics - molecular technique. FISH is the rapid detection technique of chromosomal aberration by chromosome specific probes applied to interphase cells. In this study, the authors used Kit duple DNA probe for chromosome 13, 21, X, Y to prenatal diagnosis of Down’s syndrome. With 6 amniotic fluid samples, the authors obtained the results as follows: 2 samples were Down’s syndrome trisomy; 1 sample was Patau syndrome trisomy; 3 samples were normal; 1 sample male foetus died without clear causes. Cytogenetic result: 46, XX but FISH result: 46, XY; PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) result: TDF (Testis Determining Factor): (+). These results were confirmed by chrosome analysis.

5.The relationship of abnormal ultrasonographic findings and karyotype analysis in prenatal diagnosis
Journal Ho Chi Minh Medical 2005;9(4):205-209
Analyse the abnormal ultrasonographic findings of 112 pregnant women who were indicated for amniocentesis at Tu Du Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital and Hung Vuong Hospital from February 2004 to September 2005. Abnormal ultrasonographic findings were divided into two groups: one group of major abnormalities that were significant relations to chromosomal abnormalities including atrio-ventricular channel and diaphragmatic hernia; the other group of minor abnormalities that were significant relations to chromosomal abnormalities and other small ultrasonographic abnormalities, major ultrasonographic abnormalities, biochemical analyses of maternal blood and age, etc. The results showed significant relations between the number and the categories of abnormal ultrasonographic findings and chromosomal abnormalities

Enteric duplication cysts are rare congenital malformation, of these, only 4% are gastric origin. It is diagnosed in 80 % of the patients before 2 years of age. Recently, prenatal diagnostic ratio gets higher through sonography and several diagnostic methods. In this paper, we describe a case of a cystic gastric duplication diagnosed prenatally with brief reviews of literature.
