Journal of Practical Medicine 2002;435(11):17-18
The results of the basic immunization of 3 doses of oral poliomyelitis vaccines for infant and boost immunization of 2 doses of oral poliomyelitis vaccine during 1993-1997 have shown that the poliomyelitis was significant reduced from 152 cases in 1993 to no case in 1998. The last case of poliomyelitis occurred in Phu yen province in 19th January 1997. In 2000, the poliomyelitis was eradicated in Vietnam. However, in order to prevent from returning the disease

3.Situation of poliomyelitis in northern Vietnam from 1992 to 1997 and the surveillance activities of acute flaccid paralysis/polio
Journal of Preventive Medicine 1999;9(1):18-22
Our study is aimed to access polio situation and the surveillance activities of AFP/polio cases in Northern Vietnam from 1992 to 1997. Results showed that due to the quality of the regular and sentinel surveillance improved and the polio vaccination coverage sustained (over 90% for several years), the morbidity of polio has been decreased. There were 146 confirmed cases and 35 wild polio cases in 1992 and up to 1997, there were only 3 confirmed polio cases, none of wild polio cases have been reported since 1994.

4.Some epidemiological characteristics of poliomyelitis in North Vietnam in the years 1992-1999
Journal of Practical Medicine 2002;435(11):41-42
Data were collected from the Enlarged Immunization Program and the Poliomyelitis Eradication Program (1992-1999), also including inquiry forms and guidelines for detecting, investigating, and processing by Epi-Info. Results shown the epidemic was spread in prevailing of rural population (79.3%), under 5 years old children accounted for 87.9% of cases of poliomyelitis. The outbreaks occurred all around the year with the peak on March, April, May and September, October. Wild virus of the type 1 plays the main role in 97.8% of cases

6.Establishment of the National references for Sabin vaccine produced in Vietnam
Journal of Practical Medicine 2002;435(11):44-46
A study on the establishment of the effective standard for the national standard samples of vaccine of single vaccine type 1, 2 and 3 and triple vaccine (Sabin) produced in Vietnam was carried out. The sesults have shown that the National standard sample had a high unified and stable properties that meet the requirement of the world health organization (WHO). The National standard sample were used to evaluate the quality of sabin vaccine produced in Vietnam which showed that 450 batches (100%) sabin vaccine produced in the scientific center for the vaccine production during 1995-1999 obtained the standard of WHO.

7.Virological study of acute flaccid paralysis cases caused by polioviruses and other enteroviruses during the period from 1993 to 1997 in the northern region and 5 provinces of the central region of Vietnam
Journal of Preventive Medicine 2002;12(3):23-28
During the period from 1993 to 1997, 126 poliovirus positive cases from samples of 1.098 acute flaccid paralysis patients of all provinces in the Northern region and 5 others in the Central region of Viet Nam have been identified. Among them 97 cases were caused by poliovirus type 1, 5 by type 2, 10 by type 3, 11 were identified as a multitype infection and 3 cases were the combination of poliovirus and enteroviruses. The antigenic properties of the poliovirus strains isolated have been studied using monoclonal antibody and polymerase chain reaction. The results showed that, 53 strains of poliovirus type 1 were identified as the wild-type virus, the rest were of Sabin-type virus. The wild poliovirus strains were then classified in to 2 groups by polymerase chain reaction - restriction fragment length polymorphism and sequencing methods. No case of wild type virus was isolated since 1994.

8.Effectiveness of the polio eradication program in Viet Nam, 1993-1998
Journal of Preventive Medicine 2002;12(6):8-14
After 5 years, since 1993, the strategies for polio eradication have been well implemented. Coverage of routine immunization with 3 doses of OPV to children under 1 year of age has always been maintained higher than 90%. Coverage of supplementary immunization with 2 doses of OPV to children under 5 years of age during the NIDs has been achieved greater than 98%, surveillance of all the acute flaccid paralysis cases with collection of 2 adequate stool specimens for the identification of wild poliovirus. The results of the surveillance show that wild poliovirus cases have disappeared, decreasing from 152 cases in 1993 to 0 cases in 1998. The last cases of wild poliovirus identified in Phu Yen province of Central region had the date of onset on the 29th January 1997.

9.The relation between oral immunization with poliomyelitis vaccine and the evolution of poliomyelitis epidemic in North Vietnam
Journal of Practical Medicine 2002;435(11):33-34
All children in suspicion of poliomyelitis from 28 provinces of North Vietnam (from 1993 to 1999) were enrolled in study performed with a form of inquiry concerning all related personal health documents and reports. Results shown that all children suffered from poliomyelitis with isolated wild poliovirus accounted for 73.4% were primarily non-immunized or under-dose-immunized. Conclusion recommended the continuation of oral immunization among all under-one year old children in combining with the providing two doses of oral vaccine per year for under five years old children

10.Some parameters of the calf serum in Poliomyelitis Vaccine Research and Production Center
Journal of Medical and Pharmaceutical Information 1998;10(10):25-28
The parameters of pH, albumin of the calf serum, which produced in Poliomyelitis Vaccine Research and Production Center, are higher than standard sample of Gibco Company. In general, the other parameters such as hemoglobin, protein, and bilirubin were lower than the standard sample. The viscidity of study samples is equivalent to standard sample. The optimum serum - supplemented concentration in the medium for cell culture is 10%. The viscidity clearly effect to the growth of the cells get from the medium for monkey kidney cell growth when add the calf serum- product of Polimyelitis vaccine research and production center is 82.16% in comparing with the standard sample.
