AIM: To investigate the feasibility of reendothelialization of the injured arterial wall by autologous endothelial cell transplantation and their influences on neointima proliferation. METHODS: New Zealand white rabbits (n=30) were subjected to bilateral iliofemoral artery balloon injury. Cultured, autologous venous endothelial cells were immediately transplanted into one vessel(transplantation group), whereas the contralateral artery received medium only(control group). Reendothelialization of the injured arterial wall was analysed 4 hours or 4 days after cell transplantation by fluorescent tracing、scanning electron microscope(SEM) and Evans blue staining. Pathology analysis was employed 28 days after cell transplantation to evaluate neointima proliferation. RESULTS: The transplanted endothelial cells had adhered into the aterial wall 4 hours after transplantation and began to attach and spread 4 days later. A number of fluorescent labeling endothelial cells were observed in the endothelial injured arterial wall. The vessels in control group were stained nearly completely by Evans blue, whereas about 60% area was not stained in transplantation group. Pathological examination demostrated that neointimal area and maximal intima thickness in transplantation group significant decreased than those in control. CONCLUSION: Autologus endothelial cells were effectively transplanted into the injured arterial wall by balloon catheter, and it can relieve neointima proliferation in the long time.
4.Expression of c-kit protein and its significance in human small cell lung cancer.
Chinese Journal of Lung Cancer 2004;7(3):206-208
BACKGROUNDTo investigate the clinicopathological significance of c-kit protein expression in small cell lung cancer (SCLC).
METHODSc-kit protein expression was detected in 52 formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded SCLC, 20 non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and 10 normal lung tissues by immunohistochemistry with rabbit antibody to human c-kit protein.
RESULTSc-kit protein was expressed in 61.5% (32/52) of primary SCLC, but negative in all 20 samples of NSCLC and 10 normal lung tissues. c-kit protein was localized in cytoplasm of cancer cells. The expression of c-kit protein was related to tumor size ( P =0.010) and prognosis ( P =0.000 1), but not to sex ( P =0.208), age ( P =1.000) or TNM stage ( P =0.722) of SCLC.
CONCLUSIONSc-kit protein expression may be corresponding to the prognosis of SCLC. Since in situ detection of c-kit protein is more direct than the other methods, it is helpful to clinicopathological diagnosis, targeted therapies interacting with c-kit signaling pathway and prognostic assessment in SCLC.

OBJECTIVETo observe the effectiveness and safety of external applying Compound Tripterygium wilfordii Hook F. (TwHF) in relieving joint pain in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients.
METHODSIn this double-blinded, randomized multicenter trial, a total of 174 moderately active RA patients were enrolled and randomly assigned to the treatment group (treated with Compound TwHF, 87 cases) and the placebo control group (87 cases). Compound TwHF or placebo was externally applied in painful joints, 20 g each time, once per day for 8 weeks. Self-reported joint pain relief was taken as a primary effective indicator. Visual analogue scale for pain (VAS), disease activity score of 28 joints (DAS28), VAS for general health (GH) were evaluated before treatment, at week 4 and after treatment. Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and hypersensitive C reactive protein (hs-CRP) were tested before and after treatment. Menstrual changes in females were observed during treatment. Skin irritation occurred during the recording process was assessed using skin irritation strength. Intention to treat (ITT) was statistically analyzed.
RESULTSThe joint pain relief rate in the treatment group was 90.8% (79/87 cases), higher than that in the placebo control group (69.0%, 60/87 cases; P = 0.001). VAS pain score, DAS28, VAS for GH score were significantly improved in the two groups at week 4 of treatment and after treatment, as compared with before treatment (P < 0.01). ESR and hs-CRP levels significantly decreased in the treatment group after treatment (P < 0.05, P < 0.01). No difference was found in post-treatment VAS pain score, DAS28, VAS for GH score, ESR, or hs-CRP between the two groups (P > 0.05). Eight adverse events occurred in the treatment group (5 skin allergy, 1 intolerance of medical odor, and 2 mild liver injury), while 3 adverse events occurred in the placebo control group (2 skin allergy, 1 mild liver injury). There was no statistical difference in adverse event between the two groups (P > 0.05). No menstrual change occurred in the treatment group.
CONCLUSIONExternal applying Compound TwHF was an effective and safe way to relieve-joint pain of RA patients, which could be taken as an adjuvant therapy.

Two Heptad repeat motifs (HR1 and HR2) from paramyxoviruses F protein could form thermostable heterodimers containing high alpha-helix while virus infected host cell. Following that the viral membrane and the host cell membrane were juxtaposed, which leads to membrane fusion. Mumps virus (MuV) is a member of the genus Rubulavirus in the family of Paramyxoviridae. MuV could use similar infection mechanism as well as other paramyxoviruses. In this study the HR1 and HR2 regions of MuV F protein were predicted by a computer program and expressed in E. coli with the GST fusion expression system. The GST fusion or GST-removed proteins were purified with Gluthathion Sepharose 4B Column. GST pull-down experiment suggested the interaction of HR1 and HR2 peptides, and analysis of gel filtration showed two peptides could form multimer, which indicates that the HR regions of MuV F protein may play an important role in virus fusion.

Differentiating arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia/cardiomyopathy (ARVD/C) from other cardiomyopathies is clinically important but challenging. Although the modified Task Force Criteria can facilitate diagnosis of ARVD/C according to clinical manifestations, histopathological examination plays a pivotal role in excluding other diseases that can mimic ARVD/C. Here, we report a patient with amyloidosis that initially presented similarly to ARVD/C. The diagnosis was confirmed by endomyocardial biopsy, and catheter ablation eliminated the ventricular tachyarrhythmias through an epicardial approach.

Korean Circulation Journal 2015;45(6):526-530
We describe the case of a patient with severe hypertensive left ventricular hypertrophy and sustained hemodynamically unstable ventricular tachycardia (VT). Entrainment was demonstrated in the electrophysiological study. Activation mapping and pacemapping identified the location of the intramural reentrant VT with the exit site close to the epicardium. However, VT persisted after ablation at the epicardial exit site. Successful ablation was performed endocardially at the corresponding position.
