Objective: To analyses the characters, diagnostic methods and therapeutic principles of non-neoplastic diseases of parotid gland. Methods:179 cases (84 famale and 95 male) of non-neoplastic disease treated in our hospital from 1985 to 2000 were reviewed and analysed clinically.Results: The patients were at the age of 1.5～76 years old (44.6 for average) with the case histry of 1～10 years. Among the 179 cases,66 were of chronic parotitis,48 lymphoid tuberculosis,24 benign lympho-epithplial lesion,22 lymphadenitis and lymphadenovarix and 19 other benign lesion.158 cases were treated by operation and the diagnosis of them was confirmed by pathological examination after operation;21 were clinically diagnosed and treated with drugs. Conclusion: Non-neoplastic diseases of parotid gland are easily confounded with neoplastic diseases. Surgically resection is an effective method for diagnosis and treatment.

砄bjective: To summarize the clinical characteristics of basal cell nevus syndrome (BCNS) and the treatment experience of cysts in jaws. Methods: 24 patients of BCNS from Mar. 1981 to Sept. 1999 were retrospectively investigated. Results: Of all the cases, the mean age for the first examination was 17 years old. The respective incidence of the main symptoms were multiple nevi in 9 cases (37.5%), palmar and/or plantar pits in 7 (29.2%), spine and/or ribs deformity in 17 (70.8%), intracranial calcification in 19 ( 79.2% ), specific facial profile in 16(66.7%). The cysts of jaws were the main causes for early examination, which were characterized by their multiple and preadolescent occurrences. The cysts were surgically removed and the postoperative recurrence rate of the cysts was 22.0%. Conclusion: Much attention should be paid to the cysts of jaws, the main symptoms, and cause of the physiological and psychological impairment in the patients of BCNS.

Objective:To investigate the causes, characteristics and treatment of maxillofacial trauma in children. Methods: A retrospective analysis of 470 consecutive maxillofacial records of the patients not older than 14 years was conducted. Data regarding age, gender, cause, anatomic site and treatment were reviewed. Results:Most of the patients were mals(335 cases, 71.3% ), with a male and female ratio of approximately 2. 5;1 of the injuries, 28. 5% were due to accidental falls, 17.0% traffic accidents and 10.0% sharp implementt cutting. Injuries of soft tissue often occurred on gingiva, cheek, lip and chin. Mandibuir fratures were the most common (55.1% ) of all bone fractures. Conservative therapy, such as closed reduction surgery, maxillomandibular fixation, was usually performed. Conclusion: ①Boys are more tendent to be victims of maxillofacial trauma than girls. ②Falls are the first cause of child victims. ③Gingiva, chin, lip, check and mandible are the most commonly injuried sites.
