Ten autopsy cases of bronchiole-alveolar carcinoma (BAC) were reported. Grossly, BAC may be divided into 3 types, i. e. finely nodular, coarsely nodular and diffuse type. Histologic pattern falls into 2 categories: ' (1) alveolar type, (2) papillary type. Metastasis is most frequently mediated through lymphatics, spreading to the regional lymph nodes. Next, they are spread by blood stream. Brain (meningeal carcinomatosis),bone and adrenal glands are the frequent metastasized sites. Pulmonary fibrosis and scar formation seem to be the predisposing factors to BAC.

The changes of the pulmonary ultrastructures of 15 dogs of respiratory distress syndrome (RDS)induced with intravenous injections of different doses of oleic acid under different methods of management (nontreated and treated with scopolamine) were observed after the animals were killed 6 hours and 24 hours after injection. The changes were similar on all the specimens except that those of the dogs killed at the earlier interval were less severe. The nontreated dogs and the dogs treated with scopolamine slso showed similar changes, which indicates that scopolamine is useless in treating the RDS produced by oleic acid.Correlating to the accumulation of neutrophils in the capillaries, the authors suggested that the injury induced by oleic acid to the capillary endothelium, besides the chemical toxic action of the drug, was also due to the complement and the toxic oxygen radicals produced by neutrophils.It was found that the hyaline membrane consisted of plasma protein granules in some cases and fibrin in others but no necrosis of the epithelial cells underneath the hyaline membrane was seen. Some authers suggested that the different constituents of the hyaline membrane were resulted from the precipitation of the edema-tous fluid protein on the surface of alveoli, but this suggestion could not be confirmed either by the electron microscopic study of othrs or by ours.There was a large amount of surfactant found in the intraalveolar space and vacuolation was seen, which indicates that no reduction of surfactant occurred in RDS but there was some alteration of its nature resulting in the loss of its activity.

The hypoxia-inducible factor-1(HIF-1) gene located on the long (q)arm 21-24 of chromosome 14, is composed of HIF-1? and HIF-1? subunits. HIF-1 promotes its target gene HRE to transcribe by binding to the element and then causes a series of responses of the cell to hypoxia. HIF-1 has been found to be overexpressed in breast cancer cell, and the expressions of HIF-1 level were correlated with the prognosis and prediction factors of breast cancer. As a cytokine, HIF-1 will be a new prognosis factor and a new target for the treatment of breast cancer.

Objective To explore the present situation of self-care ability among elderly hypertensive patients in the community and its influential factors.Methods 310 elderly hypertensive patients in Hengyang community were studied with a demographic questionnaire,ESCA and SSRS.Results The total mean scores of self-care ability were (105.43±19.25).68.71％ of the elderly hypertensive patients were at medium level and 29.35％ of them were at high level.Statistically significant relations were found between self-care ability and the following condition factors:education level,marital status,monthly income,obtaining health education status,social support,subjective support,availability,objective support and the severity of hypertension.There were no significant relations with sex and occupations.The results of multiple regression showed that the main factors ranged from high to low including the severity of hypertension,education level,monthly income,subjective support,obtaining health education status and marital status.Conclusions Community health nurses should aim directly at the influential factors,take effective measures and improve their self-care ability.
