1.Rapid maxillary expansion combined with fixed orthodontics
Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2013;(41):7317-7322
BACKGROUND:In the treatment of teeth later fixed appliance, whether the expansion effect can be maintained? Whether the expansion in the process of mandibular rotation could be improved? Whether the high angle cases are suitable for rapid palatal expansion? OBJECTIVE:To sum the effect of rapid maxil ary expansion combined with fixed orthodontic technique on the occlusion craniofacial three-dimensional direction, hard and soft tissues and temporomandibular joint, as wel as its long-term stability. METHODS:The CNKI database, PubMed database and Wanfang database were searched for the academic journals and literatures on rapid maxil ary expansion combined with fixed appliance with the key words of“maxil ary expansion, fixed appliance, high angle, stable”. The analysis function of database was used. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Rapid maxil ary expansion can effectively obtain arch expansion, increase the arch width, and provide space of align teeth required. Fixed appliance can effectively control the tooth movement in three-dimensional space, precisely adjust the teeth, and make the tooth rows into the ideal arch form. Combination of these two kinds of appliances can obtain the complementary efficiency advantages of the appliances, and shorten the treatment course. Expansion can cause mandibular clockwise rotation and mandibular plane angle increasing, while with the application of upper and lower fixed appliance, the occluding relation between maxil a and mandible can be adjusted more precisely in order to make the mandibular first molar move to the maxil ary molar buccal, establish good occlusal relationship, so that decrease the mandibular plane angle. So the rapid maxil ary expansion combined with fixed orthodontic can be used appropriately in the treatment of the patients with high angle intraversion.
2.MiR-512-3p expression pattern and function in breast cancer
Chinese Journal of Clinical Oncology 2013;(19):1145-1149
Objective:This study aims to investigate the expression pattern of miR-512-3p in breast cancer and noncancerous paired specimens as well as the effects of miR-512-3p on the proliferation, apoptosis, cell cycle, and cloning of MD-MBA-231 breast cancer cells. The study also aims to identify the miR-512-3p target gene. Methods:Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) was conducted to quantify the miR-512-3p expression in breast cancer and noncancerous paired specimens. Methylthiazol tetrazolium (MTT) assay, flow cytometry, and clone formation assay were used to characterize the function of miR-512-3p in breast cancer. Target prediction was performed using the TargetScan, PicTar, and miRanda software. The results were validated using RT-PCR and western blot target validation. Results:The relative expression of miR-512-3p in breast cancer specimens was significantly lower than those in normal breast specimens (P<0.05). MTT assay revealed that 48 h after transfection, miR-512-3p significantly repressed the proliferation of MD-MBA-231 cells at a suppression rate of 45.38%and at a concentration of 100 nmol/L. MiR-512-3p increased the percentage of early apoptotic cells in the treatment groups (9.32 ± 0.41)%compared with those in the blank controls (3.1 ± 0.54)%and in the negative controls (2.9 ± 0.39)%(P<0.05). Significant differences were found in the percentages of the G0/G1-and G2/M-phase cells after miR-512-3p transfection compared with those in the controls (P<0.05). In the cloning assay, clone formation was inhibited in the miR-512-3p-transfected groups compared with those in the control groups. RT-PCR and western blot results indicate that miR-512-3p significantly inhibited the c-FLIP mRNA and protein expression. Conclusion:MiR-512-3p expression is relatively decreased in breast cancer specimens compared with those in the normal samples. The negative effect of miR-512-3p on cell proliferation and clone formation and its positive effect on early apoptosis through c-FLIP targeting suggest that miR-512-3p acts as a tumor suppressor gene in breast cancer. Therefore, miR-512-3p may be a new target for the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer in the future.

Objective To investigate a possible role of orexin in the regulation of estrous cycle by examining the expression of orexin and orexin receptors(OX1R,OX2R) in the rat hypothalamus during the estrous cycle. Methods The levels of prepro-orexin(prepro-OX),orexin-A,OX1R,and OX2R in the rat hypothalamus during the estrous cycle were evaluated by competitive reverse transcription-polymerase china reaction(RT-PCR) assay. Results Only expression OX1R mRNA during late proestrus was significantly higher than that at metestrus. No significant changes of prepro-OX and OX2R mRNA expression were observed during the various estrous cycle phases. Conclusion Orexin might regulate the secretion of GnRH and/or LH by binding OX1R,contributing to the occurrence of ovulation.

Objective To evaluate the effects of percutaneous computed tomography-guided ethanol injection (PEI-CT) in adrenal benign functioning tumors. Methods Twenty cases of adrenal benign functioning tumors were treated by the therapy of PEI-CT. Among them, 5 cases were pheochromocytomas, and 15 cases were aldosteronomas. After the treatment, the change of blood pressure, aldosterone plasma levels, potassium plasma levels, and catecholamines urine levels was investigated. Both plain and enhanced CT scans were performed before and after the treatment to evaluate the changes of the size and necrosis in the tumors. Results Normalization of blood pressure and catecholamines urine levels was observed in 5 cases of pheochromocytoma during 6-19 months′ follow up after the treatment. In the 15 cases of aldosteronoma, aldosterone plasma levels reduced with potassium plasma levels increasing to the normal range within 5-7 days after the treatment. Aldosterone plasma levels increased with potassium plasma levels reduced again in 7 months after the treatment in one case, aldosterone plasma levels and potassium plasma levels returned to the normal range after the second treatment. Hypertension returned to normal in 13 cases of aldosteronoma, and one case maintained normal blood pressure (BP) only under the condition of taking lower dosage of spironolactone within 7-15 days after the treatment, and one month later, the blood pressure of the case become normal without taking any antihypertensive drugs. The other case maintained normal blood pressure in the need of taking lower dosage of antihypertensives after the treatment. CT scan showed total necrosis of tumors in 15 cases and majority necrosis in 5 case within 7-15 days after the treatment. Conclusion The therapy of percutaneous computed tomography-guided ethanol injection in adrenal benign functioning tumors shows satisfactory effects with the advantages of easy manipulation, safety, less injury and cost.

Objective To explore the central mechanisms when induced by acupuncture at ST36 using different needling techniques with functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). Methods Thirty-two healthy young volunteers were enrolled in the experiment. Eleven volunteers accepted acupuncture at ST36 using reinforcing techniques for electroacupuncture (EA), 11 accepted acupuncture using reducing techniques for EA, and the rest 10 accepted acupuncture at sham EA. The data of fMRI were collected and analyzed with statistical parametric mapping (SPM2) after real EA at ST36 or sham EA in right leg. Results Five minutes after acupuncture, fMRI data of reinforcing group demonstrated significant activation in the bilateral caudate nucleus, thalamus, left insula, cingulate gyrus, dentate body of cerebellum. From 20 to 30 minutes after acupuncture, fMRI data demonstrated significant activation of true acupuncture groups in the left thalamus, paracentral lobule, gyrus precentralis, middle temporal gyrus, middle frontal gyrus, insula, bilateral caudate nucleus, hemisphaerium cerebelli, anterior and posterior cingulate gyrus. The signal of the reinforcing group for EA was stronger than the reducing group for EA. Acupunture of the false point activated the paracentral lobe and the hemisphere of cerebellum only. Conclusion Stimulation of acupoint ST36 with acupuncture activated different parts of the autonomic nerve system, including imbic system, supplementary motor area, grey matter, etc. Reinforcing technique for EA is better than reducing technique at ST36.
