Objective To study the therapeutic effect of arbutin combined with glycyrrhizin on immune-inflammation. Methods The effect of arbutin combined with glycyrrhizin on adjuvant arthritis and on oxzolone induced mice ear swelling were investigated. PGE2 level in inflammatory tissue and LTB4 content from peritoneal macrophage of rat treated with arbutin and glycyrrhizin were determined. Results Arbutin combined with glycyrrhizin could inhibit Freund's complete adjuvant induced rat primary and secondary foot swelling. The combined group could also inhibit oxazolone induced mice ear swelling and decrease CD4+ T cell in blood. Compared with control group,PGE2 level in combined group was remarkable lower, and there was no difference between combined group and GL 400 mg/kg group. Arbutin combined with glycyrrhizin could inhibit LTB4 release from rat peritoneal macrophage. Conclusion Arbutin and glycyrrhizin has synergetic therapeutic effect on immune-inflammation.
2.Concept of professional socialization in nursing
International e-Journal of Science, Medicine and Education 2012;6(1):31-35
Each nursing student comes to nursing with a
lay image of nursing portrayed by nurses they have seen.
This lay perception of nursing that a nursing student holds
is transformed to a more professional understanding that
is acquired in nursing schools. This process is known as
professional socialization. It is a process of learning the
norms, attitudes, behaviours, skills, roles, and values
of the profession. It involves the internalization of the
values and norms of the profession in the individual’s
own behaviour and self-concept. The ultimate goal of
professional socialization is to internalize a professional
identity of the profession. Professional socialization sets
in to reduce the tension from the scenario of reality
shock and facilitate adaptation during the transition
process. This paper serves as a concept paper with the
main purpose of introducing and explaining the concept
of professional socialization in nursing to help the
readers in gaining further understanding of the concept,
especially within the local context. The first author
has also incorporated her own personal reflections with
regards to her socialization process to nursing.

OBJECTIVETo explore the clinical effects of internal fixation with lag screws plus an anti-sliding plate for the treatment of Hoffa fractures of the lateral femoral condyle.
METHODSFrom May 2006 to May 2014, 17 patients with Hoffa fractures of the lateral femoral condyle were treated with lag screws plus an anti-sliding plate. There were 13 males and 4 females, ranging in age from 27 to 59 years, with a mean of 32.5 years. All the fractures were fresh and closed fractures. According to the Letenneur's classification, 8 cases were type I, 4 cases were type II, 5 cases were type III. All the patients had no injuries of the cruciate ligament and the another part of the knee. Operative incision and fracture healing time were observed, knee joint function was evaluated by Letenneur system and HSS standard.
RESULTSThe patients were followed up from 10 to 24 months with a mean of 14.6 months. All incisions achieved primary healing, and no internal fixation breakage, malunion, femoral candyle necrosis, deep vein thrombosis of lower extremity were found. Fracture healing time was from 4 to 9 months with an average of 4.7 months. According to Letenneur's functional assessment, 10 patients got an excellent results, 4 good, 3 fair. Total HSS score was 91.1 +/- 4.7 on average,15 cases obtained excellent results, 2 good.
CONCLUSIONInternal fixation with lag screws and an anti-sliding plate can result in excellent effects for Hoffa fractures of the lateral femoral condyle. The key to a successful surgery is an anatomic reduction and rigid fixation of the fracture.

Acta Nutrimenta Sinica 1956;0(01):-
Guinea pigs were given orally with a daily dose of 0.5 mg ascorbic acid per 100 g body weight 20 days before and 4 days after a whole-body r-irradiation and then injected subcutaneously with 10 mg ascorbic acid at 24 hours intervals. During the injection period, the daily urinary output of total ascorbic acid in the animals irradiated with 500 or 1000 r was significantly higher than that in controls, but the difference of 24 hours excretions of total ascorbic acid between the group irradiated with 150 or 250 r and the control group was not statistically significant. As shown in the urinary output of dehydroascorbic acid and diketo- gulonic acid estimated by our modified Roe's method, r-irradiation has no effect on its excretion in guinea pigs and rats. The levels of ascorbic acid in plasma, spleen and adrenals were significantly lower in the irradiated group than in the control group, but might increase with the increase of the injected dose of ascorbic acid.

Objective To study the effects of iodine deficiency during pregnancy on fetal iodine metabolism and thyroid function. Methods Wistar dams were randomly divided into four groups: severe iodine deficiency(SID), moderate iodine deficiency(MoID), mild iodine deficiency(MiID) and normal iodine(NI). All the dams were fed with iodine deficient food(iodine contents: 50 μg/kg) and drinking water with different doses of KI (0,54.9,163.8,381.7 μg/L) for 3 months till mating. Iodine was supplied at the dose of 1.24 μg/d(SID), 2.50 μg/d(MoID), 5.00 μg/d(MiID) and 10.00 μg/d(NI), respectively. The dams and their fetuses on gestation of 20 days were studied. Urine iodine of dams and iodine contents in fetal amniotic fluid were measured by As3+-Ce4+catalytic spectrophotometry using ammonium persulfate digestion. And blood iodine in pregnant rats and iodine contents in placental tissue were measured by As3+-Ce4+catalytic spectrophotometry in dry ash of samples in KClO3-ZnSO4-K2CO3-NaCl. Thyroid hormone levels in mother serum and in fetal amniotic fluid were detected by chemiluminascent assay, and their thyroid glands were weighted and carefully observed. Results ①Iodine content in urine and blood of pregnant rats and amniotic fluid of fetal rats reduced along with their decrease of iodine supply. Urine iodine median of rats in 4 groups(NI: 353.7 μg/L; MiID: 115.9 μg/L; MoID: 26.9 μg/L; SID: 0 μg/L) were statistically significant(χ2=32.884, P < 0.01). Blood iodine level in MoID and SID[(29.4±18.6), (11.7± 7.0)μg/L]was significantly lower than that in NI[(49.1±23.0)μg/L, P < 0.05 or < 0.01]. In iodine deficiency groups, there was a decreasing trend in iodine contents of fetal amniotic fluid[MiID: (48.3±23.1)μg/L; MoID: (29.2±14.7)μ/L; SID:(19.5±6.7)μg/L]and an increasing tendency in iodine contents of placental tissue [MiID: (0.57±0.26)μg/g, MoID: (0.53±0.34)μg/g; SID: (0.53±0.15)μg/g], but there was no statistical significance(P>0.05). ②In SID, TT4[(14.3±4.1)nmol/L]and FT4[(10.8±3.6)pmol/L]were lower than that in NI[(28.4±19.3)nmol/L, (20.2±8.0)pmol/L, P < 0.05 or < 0.01], while that in MoID[(22.1±6.1)nmol/L, (18.5±4.1)pmol/L]and MiID[(25.5±13.1)nmol/L, (18.6±8.4)pmol/L]were decreased without statistical significance(P > 0.05). And FT3/FT4 ratio(0.34±0.16), absolute[(48.4±22.7)mg]and relative weights[(144± 76)mg/kg]of thyroid gland in pregnant rats were respectively higher than that in NI[0.16±0.02, (19.5±3.1)mg, (66±10)mg/kg, P<0.01]. But that in MoID[0.19±0.04, (27.0±5.7)mg, (84±19)mg/kg]and MiID[0.17± 0.06, (25.0±8.9)mg, (78±25)mg/kg]were increased without statistical significance(P > 0.05). A visibly congestive enlargement thyroid was found in SID, while thyroid mildly enlarged in MoID and MiID. ③Compared with NI [(2.38±1.55)pmol/L,0.50±0.18], the FT4 levels [(1.07±0.87) pmol/L]in amniotic fluid were significantly decreased (P < 0.05) and the FT3/FT4 ratio (1.96±0.61) was significantly increased (P < 0.01) in SID. There were no statistical significances(P > 0.05) in other 3 groups[MiID: (2.77±0.90)pmol/L,0.46±0.15; MoID: (2.35±0.76)pmoL/L,0.61±0.21]. A visible thyroid enlargement with hyperemia was observed in SID fetus while in other 2 experiment groups their thyroids were only mildly congested. Conclusions Severe iodine deficiency during pregnancy can result in both mother and fetus overt hypothyroidism. The fetal thyroid hormone levels in mild iodine deficiency status is close to normal levels because of maternal and placental compensation. Moreover, both the dam and the fetus suffer from the negative effects in moderate iodine deficiency during pregnancy.

Objective To study whether 3D computerized pre?operative planning is accuracy and reliability in CroweⅣtype developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty (THA). Methods Between September 2009 and February 2011, 20 CroweⅣtype DDH patients (20 hips) were included in this study. The 3D pre?operative planning was performed using Mimics software to predict the acetabular component size, acetabular component abduction angle, hip rota?tion center position, the acetabular component coverage and number of patients received structural bone graft. The results were compared with traditional acetate templating technique and post?operative results. Results 70%(14/20) components were pre?dicted exactly and 30%(6/20) components were predicted with one size using 3D computerized planning, comparing with 25%(5/20) components were exactly, 45%(9/20) components were with one size and 30%(6/20) were with two size or more using conven?tional acetate templating technique. Statistically analysis revealed that 3D planning was more accuracy than templating technique regarding acetabular component prediction (t=-4.66, P=0.00). There was no significant difference between the 3D computerized planned acetabular component abduction angle (3D plan 41.10°±4.87°, postoperative 44.98°±10.83°, t=0.88, P=0.42), hip rota?tion center distance (horizontal distance:3D plan 77.51 ± 7.78 mm, postoperative 79.85 ± 8.61 mm, t=-1.95, P=0.11;vertical dis?tance:3D plan 42.79±8.22 mm, postoperative 44.98±10.83 mm, t=-1.27, P=0.26), acetabular component host coverage (3D plan 77.73%± 10.51%, postoperative 78.98%± 10.24%, t=-1.84, P=0.09), and that found post?operatively. Five patients were consid?ered to need structural bone graft according to 3D computerized planning, which was highly coincident with the intraoperative find?ings in all five cases. Conclusion 3D computerized pre?operative planning using Mimics software is an accurate and reliable technique in treating CroweⅣtype DDH patients undergoing THA.

ObjectiveTo explore the prevalence and clinical features of hyperuricemia and its influencing factors in elderly male people aged 90 years and above. MethodsOne hundred elderly male people aged 90 years and above who underwent routine health examination in our hospital in 2007 were selected in the study. Serum uric acid level was examined by uricase-peroxidase method, and all patients were divided into hyperuricemia group and control group according to the serum uric acid level. Clinical and biochemical indications were compared between the two groups, and logistic regression was used to analyze the influencing factors of hyperuricemia in elderly people. ResultsThe serum uric acid level was increased in 20% of the elderly people, and the prevalence of gouty arthritis was 1%. The levels of blood urea nitrogen and serum creatinine were higher in hyperuricemia group than in control group[(10. 98±4.29) mmol/L vs. (6. 87± 1.86) mmol/L, (125.2±25.9)μmol/L vs. (93. 4±19. 8)μmol/L;both P<0.05)3. The patients in hyperuricemia group had a higher prevalence of hypertension and hypertriglyceridemia, and a higher proportion of diuretic application than patients in control group(P<0. 05). Logistic regression analysis showed that serum uric acid level had the most remarkable correlation with serum creatinine(OR= 1. 969), followed by fasting blood glucose (OR= 1. 310)and blood urea nitrogen(OR = 1.161). There was negative correlation between serum uric acid level and plasma cholesterol level(OR = 0. 802). ConclusionsThe prevalence of hyperuricemia is high in elderly people aged 90 years and above, while the incidence of gouty arthritis is low. Renal function impairment, metabolic syndrome and thiazide diuretic are the major factors for hyperuricemia.
