1.Some experiences of the palatoplasty by double reversing Z flap
Journal of Vietnamese Medicine 1998;231(12):147-162
31 patients with ages of 3-6 and uncomplete cleft palate in the Institute of the Odontostomatology and faciomaxillogy received the palatoplasty by the double reversing Z flap. The results have shown that the length of the palate was increased, the ability of pronunciation was well developed, there was no influence on the facial medial layer, and there were no complications such as bleeding or rupture.

6.A Comparison of Anterior Based with Posterior Based Tongue Flaps for the Closure of Palatal Fistulas.
Journal of the Korean Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons 2003;30(5):528-531
Small palatal fistulas following surgery for cleft palate can be corrected easily by local mucoperiosteal flap. But fistula repair is difficult if the fistula is large in hard palate. Tongue flaps are the most commonly used flaps for closure of difficult palatal fistulas. The authors treated 38 patients of large palatal fistulas using tongue flap. Among them, 33 patients were operated using posteriorly based tongue flap, and 5 patients were operated using anteriorly based tongue flap. In the former, all flaps were successfully survived and not necessary a fixation of tongue after flap transfer. But in the latter, tongue flap of a patient was detached because of high mobility, and tongue flap of a patient was necrotized because of poor blood supply. For closure of large palatal fistula, posteriorly based tongue flap is safer and more reliable technique than anteriorly based tongue flap considering mobility and blood supply.

7.Palatoplasty with Reconstruction of Levator Sling (Preliminary report).
Yeungnam University Journal of Medicine 1990;7(2):49-54
Ten cleft palate patients were operated with reconstruction of levator sling without pushback for the purpose of not to make raw surface in the anterior portion of hard palate to prevent maxillary retrognathia. Speech was evaluated by using speech assessment list. Maxillary growth was not evaluated due to in-growing age in majority patient. The report will be followed in next chance. We could impose the significance in clinical application of levator sling palatoplasty without any complications but improving speech.

OBJECTIVETo study the morphology of the soft palate in normal humans with digital radiography and to provide the references for therapy of the cleft.
METHODS106 normal people were involved. The morphology of the soft palate was observed with digital cephalometry.
RESULTSAll static images of soft palate could be divided into six types: Shuttle-shaped, crescent-shaped, strip-shaped, S-shaped, hamulus-shaped and anomalous shaped. The dynamic image was knee-shaped.
CONCLUSIONThe morphology of the soft palate is varied.

Congenital palatal fistulas are rare, and few cases have been reported. Most reported cases present with a submucous cleft palate. In terms of etiology, whether the fistula is congenital or acquired has been debated. Moreover, there is not a generally accepted surgical procedure for repair of palatal fistulas. We present a case of a congenital palatal fistula with a submucous cleft palate that was successfully treated with a Furlow doubleopposing Z-plasty. We discuss palatal fistulas with a review of the literature.
