2.Impact factor of Korean Journal of Pediatrics on Korean Medical Citation Index and Science Citation Index of Web of Science.

PURPOSE: The total number of times a paper is cited, also known as the impact factor (IF) of a medical journal, is widely implied in evaluating the quality of a research paper. We evaluated the citation index data as an IF of Korean J Pediatr in Korean Medical Citation Index (KoMCI) and JCI of Web of Science. METHODS: We calculated the IF of Korean J Pediatr at KoMCI supervised by Korean Association of Medical Journal Editors. And we estimated the IF of Korean J Pediatr by the JCI of Web of Science although it was never officially reported. RESULTS: The IF of Korean J Pediatr on KoMCI has increased from 0.100 in the year 2000, to 0.205 in 2008, and 0.326 in 2009. Although the IF of Korean J Pediatr was 0.006 in 2005, 0.018 in 2006, 0.028 in 2008, 0.066 in 2009, and 0.018 in 2010 according to the JCI of Web of Science, the number of citations are steadily increasing. CONCLUSION: Understanding and realizing the current status will be a stepping stone for further improvement. The next objective of the Korean J Pediatr is to become registered in the SCI or SCIE. Increasing the IF according to the JCI of Web of Science is crucial in order to achieve this goal.

4.A comparison of actual versus estimated weights among Filipino children using the original and updated Advanced Paediatric Life Support (APLS) Formulae, Mercy Method and Broselow Tape: A prospective study.

Introduction. In resuscitating children, actual weight should be obtained before intervention. However, this is not always possible in the emergency setting. Identifying a simple, accurate, and precise method of weight estimation is essential in the delivery of optimal care for Filipino children seen at the emergency department.
Objectives. To evaluate and compare the accuracy and precision of different weight estimation methods in Filipino children.
Methods. A cross-sectional, single-center study was conducted among patients aged >28 days-12 years seen at the Philippine General Hospital Emergency Room. The traditional and updated Advanced Pediatric Life Support (APLS), Broselow tape, and Mercy Method were used for weight estimation. Bland Altman analysis was performed to see the mean difference and limits of agreement between actual and estimated weights of the children.
Results. Broselow tape gave the closest average weight estimate, overestimating it by 0.7 kg, followed by Mercy method at 0.955 kg higher than actual. Traditional APLS yielded 1.565 kg and the Updated APLS 3.299 kg. Mercy Method had the narrowest limit of agreement.
Conclusion. Among the four weight estimation methods, Broselow tape is the most accurate while the Mercy method is the most precise. Traditional APLS performed better than the updated APLS. Length-based methods and anthropometric surrogates proved to be more reliable than age-based formulae.

6.Some opinions of bronchial asthma in the Institute of Pediatrics

A study on 56 children with bronchial asthma in the Institute of Pediatrics during 5-10/2001 has shown that the bronchial asthma is increasingly, accounted for the high rate among respiratory tract diseases. The disease occurred in men more frequently than in women in which children with ages of 5-10 accounted for highest rate of disease. The severity of bronchial asthma did not much influence the children's life. The treatment should be considered for individuals and involved the combination of corticoids and 2-adrenergic stimulant.

7.Artificial ventilation in pediatric tetanus: mortality and complication

74 patients with severe tetanus who have indication of artificial ventilation were evaluated. These patients were 15 years old or less at baseline. Participants were divided into 2 groups. Group 1 (40 patients) had received artificial ventilation, and group 2 (34 patients) had not received artificial ventilation due to the ventilators were not available. The mortality of groups 1 was 60% (16/40) and that of group 2 was 94.12% (32/34). Ventilators are very helpful in the management of severe tetanus but their complications caused many problems

10.Clinical Effect of Vistamycin in the Field of Pediatrics.

The clincal investigation have been performed on the effect of vistamycin in the field dof pediatric infection and the following results were obtained. 1. As for the effect of vistamycin, excellent in 3 cases, good in 13 cases, fair in 4 cases, no response in 5 cases. The effectiveness rate was 80%. 2. No noticeable side effects were observed concerning allergic reaction, neurotoxicity, hepatorenal toxicity, and blood toxicity.
