Building research capacity in nursing services has been recognized internationally as important in order to produce a sound evidence for decision–making in policy. Prince of Songkla University has adopted the direction of development which is consistent with its vision of being a leading university in the Asian region with the obligations of producing research. The aim of this study is to evaluate the outcomes (the number of research reports and nurses' satisfaction) of building nursing research capacity with the Prince of Songkla University Model. This participatory action research was a part of study on the outcomes of building nursing research capacity with the Prince of Songkla University Model. One hundred participants (n = 100) were recruited on a voluntary basis during the years 2004–2009. Six participatory development steps were carried out. Data were collected through recording research report presentations, a questionnaire, and satisfaction interviews. Quantitative data were analyzed with descriptive statistics. It was found that 61% (n = 61) of the Thai nurses were able to present their research reports at international conferences in three countries, namely the Republic of Korea (three times, or 50.82%), Japan (44.26%) and Indonesia (4.92%). The majority of the presentations (72.13%) were in the form of poster presentations; most of the research designs (45.90%) were descriptive studies, followed by quasi-experimental research (27.87%); and most of the research topics (22.95%) were on adult nursing, followed by nursing administration and management (18.03%), and nursing education (16.38%). The participants' satisfaction was: 85% at a high level, and 15% at a moderate level. As academic and service partners move forward to design and implement changes to prepare the next generation of building nursing research capacity for the realities of a changing health care delivery, both process from PSU Model and outcomes evaluations must be incorporated in planning. The key point is that measurement is essential to determine the short –and long-term effectiveness and the efficiency of this model.

Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing Administration 2018;24(2):130-138
PURPOSE: This study was done to analyze the trend of theory application in articles published in the Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing Administration (JKANA) over the last 10 years. METHODS: Four hundred and eighty-five articles were reviewed to determine the scope of theory-applied research. General characteristics, study design and keywords classification by nursing meta-paradigm were analyzed using established analysis framework. RESULTS: Twenty-four articles (4.9%) were identified as theory-applied research publications. More than half of the articles (54.2%) stated that a theoretical framework was used; the number of theories used in the 24 articles was 27 including nine nursing theories. The majority of the studies were conducted in hospital settings. In the keyword classification by nursing meta-paradigm, 28 environment-related keywords were identified but only 7 keywords were related to health. CONCLUSION: The results show that theory application in Korean nursing administration research is very limited. It is necessary to create a positive educational environment for graduate students to learn about nursing theories as well as theories from other disciplines. In addition, different levels of nursing theories should be continuously developed in the field of nursing administration.

7.Postmodernism and the Issue of Nursing.
Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing 2004;34(3):389-399
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to illustrate the main stream of postmodernism which has influenced theory and research in the nursing science, and then to consider the meaning and value ofwhat the postmodern perspective has meant to nursing science in the 21st century. METHOD: Derrida and Foucaults philosophical thoughts that characterized postmodernism through the interpretation of their major literature was studied. Based on their philosophy, it was shownhow Derrida's idea could be applied in deconstructing the core paradigm in modern nursing science. In terms of Foucault's post-structuralism, reinterpretation of the nursing science in relation to power/knowledge was completed. RESULT: Postmodernism created multiple and diverse paradigms of nursing theory as well as nursing research. This was accomplished by deconstructing the modernism of nursing science which was based on the positivism and medical-cure centralism. Specifically, the post-structuralist perspective revealed issuesaround the relationship of power and knowledge, which dominated and produced modern nursing science. Contemporary nursing science accepts pluralism and needs no unitary meta-paradigm, which can reintegrate multiple and diverse paradigms. CONCLUSION: In considering the issue of nursing science in postmodernism, it can be summarized as follows: the postmodern thinking discovers and reveals diverse and potential nursing values which were veiled by the domination of western modern nursing science. These were motivated to create nursing knowledge by conversation in interpersonal relationships, which can contribute to practical utilities for the caring-healing situation.

8.The Effects of Hardiness: A Meta-Analysis of Korean Nursing Research Findings.
Journal of Korean Academy of Adult Nursing 2005;17(5):783-792
PURPOSE: This study was conducted to meta-analyze the effects of hardiness on health-related variables. METHOD: After review of 19 studies performed by Korean nurses, research variables, statistical data(r or F), and other methodological data were extracted and coded. Research variables were categorized under 5 groups such as health-related behavior, well-being, adaptation, stress, and support according to conceptual similarity. Using SAS program, 20 research variables and 34 effect sizes were calculated after eliminating heterogeneous data by Q-test, RESULTS: Effects of hardiness on whole research variables was .512 and ranged from .322 to .643 by categories. The greatest effect was obtained from well-being category, whereas the smallest effect from stress category. All effect sizes were statistically significant. But fail-safe numbers were small and failed to achieve reasonable tolerance level. CONCLUSION: Results of meta-analysis indicated that hardiness has a moderate effect on health-related variables. But for improving the reliability of the results by minimizing publication bias, the more hardiness studies should be done.

9.Analysis of the Concept of Sensibility.
Journal of Korean Academy of Fundamental Nursing 2006;13(1):140-149
PURPOSE: The concept of sensibility as sensitive perception is a part of the most important elements in human relations and nursing. However, sensibility has not been a focus of nursing research and it seems important to clarify the meaning of sensibility. Therefore, in this study the meaning of sensibility as a cognitive faculty of humans was explored. The results will contribute to the development of nursing science and art. METHOD: The process described by Walker and Avant to analyze concepts was used to define the concept of sensibility. RESULTS: Attributes of sensibility were defined as 'emotional ability to feel', 'delicate, sensitive awareness of emotion', 'appreciative, tender hearted about oneself and others', 'awareness of intellectual, moral values', 'liability to be vulnerable', 'direct interrelation with individual'. CONCLUSION: The sensibility mentioned above included the attribute of caring within nurses intrinsic disposition which is achieved through the process of interrelational communication. Therefore continuous study and development of this concept should not only provide resources for nursing but also have a positive effect in therapeutic personal relationships.

10.Analysis of Studies on Nursing Image Performed in Korea from 2003 to 2014.
Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing Administration 2015;21(4):435-446
PURPOSE: This study was done to review and summarize trends in research related to image of nursing in Korea and to explore directions for future research. METHODS: Thirty-five studies published from 2003 to 2014 were reviewed, and the analysis was performed according to criteria adopted from Kim & Lee (2003). RESULTS: There was a three-fold increase in the number of studies compared to a prior analysis study. Of these studies 50% were carried out with nursing students and 71.4% were survey type research. Elementary school students, patients, and guardians had positive images of nursing compare to middle school students and health related personnel. Experience of hospital admission or patient visit did not influence the nursing image of participants. Satisfaction with nursing as a career and clinical practicum were related to nursing image among nursing students and their satisfaction, and their nursing professional value and self-esteem had a positive correlation with nursing image. CONCLUSION: The findings of this study suggest that recent trends of nursing research on nursing image indicate a need for further research to eliminate negative stereotypes and build a more professional image for nursing are recommended.
