An investigation on ablution workstations design for person with disabilities has been carried out in this study. The focused were on wheelchair user or person with lower-limb impairment in Malaysia. The objective of this research is to determine the most suitable ablution workstation for person with disabilities. One hundred wheelchair users which include 74 males and 26 females participated in the study. The findings highlighted that the most suitable and preferred ablution workstation for person with disabilities is a separate design for washing hands and legs. The results also indicated that the noteworthy body parts that should be enhanced are arms, neck, trunk, and legs. Therefore, it can be concluded that it is important to design an ablution workstation with correct anthropometric dimensions referring to the population under investigation taking into account their preferences and disabilities limitation. Thus, the innovation will bring equality between people with disabilities and physically normal people in future facilities design. The workstation will become one of the worthy social contributions to the population of Muslim disabilities especially in Malaysia.
2.Dental Pulp Stem Cells Response to Chrysanthemum Flower Extract
Malaysian Journal of Medicine and Health Sciences 2019;15(SUPPLEMENT 9):80-87
Chrysanthemum rubellum (durian) flower (CR) is well-known for its usefulness in conventional and advanced medicine. Bioactive glass properties are geared towards hard tissue regeneration. Hence, this study aims to investigate the response of dental pulp stem cells (DPSC) when exposed to bioactive glass-chrysanthemum flower extract-conditioned medium. Methods: Chrysanthemum rubellum (durian) yellow coloured petals freeze dried extracts (CRE) was prepared by separation and agitation in distilled water where the final powdery compound was being investigated and combined with melt-derived BG 45S5 powder to produce BGCRE-conditioned medium. The CRE extracts in various concentrations and BGCRE-conditioned medium were exposed to DPSC and the cells responses were assessed using AB and MTT assays. The CRE and BGCRE-conditioned media were also assessed using ICP-OES to check for ionic release profile from both medium. Results: The CRE-conditioned medium (7.81, 15.63, 31.25 and 62.5 μg/ml) showed a dose-dependent effect towards DPSC from Days 1 until 14. The BGCRE-conditioned medium containing BG powders (1 mg/ml) with the lower amount of CRE extracts (0.02 and 0.1 mg/ml) promoted DPSC viability and proliferation rate from Days 1 until 14 based on AB and MTT assays. The BGCRE-conditioned medium has potentially affected the DPSC viability and proliferation. Conclusion: The presence of CRE in BGCRE-conditioned medium enhanced the DPSC viability and proliferation possibly through the combined effect of CRE and BG. This BGCRE combination showed potential as natural medicament for dental tissue regeneration

Malaysian Journal of Medicine and Health Sciences 2020;16(No.4):218-225
Introduction: Proper nutrition for premature babies is vital for optimal growth. However, a lack of confidence and knowledge among parents causes them to search for online information which may sometimes be misleading or unreliable. The primary objective of this study is to develop a validated website as an educational tool for parents about nutrition for premature babies. Methods: This study was conducted by referring to the Waterfall Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) model, which consists of five main stages. Stages one to three are related to the development of the website, namely, the requirements stage, design stage and implementation stage. This is then followed by a testing stage where 11 expert panels evaluated the content and face validity of the website. The final stage is the maintenance stage. Results: The website was developed with nine topics. The value of Item Content Validity Index (I-CVI) for every item exceeded the minimum value of I-CVI (0.78), the value of the content validity index by scale, average (S-CVI/Ave) is 0.98, and the content validity index by scale, universal agreement (S-CVI/UA) is 0.83. Both S-CVIs have exceeded the minimum value, which is 0.90 and 0.80 respectively. The value of Krippendorff's Alpha (Kalpha) for the overall section of face validity is 0.53, which does not achieve the minimum acceptable value of Kalpha (0.67). Conclusion: The content validation has high agreement among the expert panels. However, the interphase, layout, and design of the website need to be improvised.

Objective: To determine the morphological and molecular characterization of Acanthamoeba isolates from contact lens paraphernalia in Malaysia and to investigate their pathogenic potential based on the physiological tolerance. Methods: One hundred and eighty contact lens wearers donated their contact lens, lens storage cases and lens solutions between 2018 and 2019. The samples were inoculated onto 1.5% non-nutrient agar plates for 14 d. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was performed and the amplified PCR products were sequenced and compared with the published sequences in GenBank. The pathogenic potential of positive isolates was further tested using temperature-tolerance and osmo-tolerance assays. Acanthamoeba species were categorized into three distinct morphological groups established by Pussard and Pons. Results: Acanthamoeba was successfully isolated from 14 (7.8%) culture-positive samples in which 11 belong to morphological group II and 3 belong to morphological group III, respectively. The sequencing of 18S ribosomal RNA gene led to the identification of the T4 genotype in all the isolated strains. In vitro assays revealed that 9 (64.3%) Acanthamoeba isolates were able to grow at 42 °C and 1 M mannitol and were thus considered to be highly pathogenic. Conclusions: To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report identifying the Acanthamoeba genotype and their pathogenic potential among contact lens wearers in Malaysia. The potentially pathogenic T4 genotype isolated in this study is the most predominant genotype responsible for human ocular infection worldwide. Hence, increasing attention should be aimed at the prevention of contamination by Acanthamoeba and the disinfection of contact lens paraphernalia.

Introduction: Sexually transmitted Infections (STIs) are major public health concerns reaching an all-time high, globally. In Malaysia data on the prevalence of STIs remains scarce which limits the understanding of STI transmission
dynamics and the role of interventions in the control of STIs. The aim of this study is to determine the epidemiology
characteristics of STIs mainly from Malaysian private healthcare institutions. Method: A two years (2016 and 2017)
retrospective review was conducted on 160 multiplex RT-PCR STI reports from KPJ hospitals, Malaysia. Results:
There were 65 (40.6 %) patients positive STIs [male: 21/65 (32.3 %); female: 44/65 (67.7 %)]. The STIs was prevalent among young adults (56/65; 86.2 %) from the central region (46/65; 70.8 %). Females had 1.7 times greater risk
to develop STI (20 per 100) and two times higher chance to have multiple STIs (10 per 100) in comparison to male.
The single STIs was caused mainly by U. parvum (N=17). In males, U. urealyticum (N=3) and C. trachomatis (N=3)
were prevalent, while U. parvum (N=15) was prevalent in females. There were 19 dual infections of STIs which were
commonly caused by U. parvum and M. hominis (N=5). There were seven STIs cases caused by three pathogens
concurrently including U. urealyticum, U. parvum and C. trachomatis (N=2) and U. urealyticum, M. genitalium
and C. trachomatis (N=2). Females from urban communities have higher risk in comparison to males for developing
multiple STIs. Conclusion: This study provides an imperative platform for temporal trends of STIs in Malaysia which
reflects the health status of certain populations that warrant immediate public health interventions.
