OBJECTIVETo explore the inhibition pathway of the EBV-immortalized cells (CD23(+)) in children with infectious mononucleosis (IM) caused by Epstein-Barr virus.
METHODSThe expressions of CD23, CD19, CD95, Bcl-2 and the co-expressions of CD23CD95, CD19CD23 on peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) were analyzed by flow cytometry (FCM) during acute phase, early convalescent phase and convalescent phase of 34 EBV-IM children and compared with that of 24 healthy donors.
RESULTS(1) The levels of CD23(+) and CD23(+)CD19(+) cells decreased and CD95(+), CD95(+)CD23(+), Bcl-2(+) cells increased markedly in IM patients in acute phase [CD95(+) cells (19.43 +/- 8.46)%; CD95(+)CD23(+) cells (1.81 +/- 1.71)%; Bcl-2(+) cells (23.41 +/- 26.47)%] and early convalescent phase [CD95(+) cells (12.94 +/- 5.05)%; CD95(+)CD23(+) (1.05 +/- 1.20)%; Bcl-2(+) cells (10.54 +/- 9.68)%], as compared with those of healthy controls [CD95(+) cells (10.39 +/- 2.90)%; CD95(+)CD23(+) cells (0.50 +/- 0.46)%; Bcl-2(+) cells (7.25 +/- 2.88)%]. The earlier the course of IM, the more abnormal the expressive levels. All the abnormal results returned to normal in convalescent phase. (2) Positive relationships were observed between the expressions of CD95(+)CD23(+) cells and that of CD23(+) cells, CD23(+)CD19(+) cells during acute and early convalescent phase, the expressions of Bcl-2(+), CD3(+) cells and CD23(+), CD23(+)CD19(+) cells during acute phase, the expressions of CD95(+)CD23(+) cells and Bcl-2(+) cells during acute phase, and the expressions of CD95(+)CD23(+) cells and CD95(+) cells during convalescent phase.
CONCLUSIONThe results indicate that CD95L-CD95 mediated apoptosis plays an important role in eliminating EBV-immortalized cells, which is counteracted partly by Bcl-2.

Objective To study the status and environment-related risk factors for falls among older adults in the urban community, and to provide evidences for the development of specific interventions. Methods A total of 993 older adults aged ≥60 years old from 2 communities in Cixi City were selected by stratified cluster sampling. Face-to-face interview and field investigation were carried out to collect participants' basic information, the situation and environment-related risk factors for falls occurred to them from November 2012 to October 2013.Results The overall incidence of falls was 14.90%,and it was significantly higher in wowen (17.19%) than in men(12.47%)(P<0.05). There were 109 participants reported to have fall-related injury with an incidence of 10.98%(109/993). Moreover, the incidence of fall-related injury for women(13.87%) was significantly higher than that for men(7.69%)(P<0.05). Among them, 35.14% falls occurred in home, the washroom(93.62%)and drawing room(85.02%) had higher proportion of having falling-related environmental risk factors. The multivariate logistic analysis showed that uneven carpet in aisle (OR=3. 542,95% CI:1.235-10.161)and having clutters beside the bed (OR=8.611,95% CI:2.051-36.574) were two main environmental risk factors for elder falls in home. Conclusion The incidence of falls of older adult in Cixi was 14.90%. Uneven carpet in aisle and having clutters beside the bed were two main environmental risk factors for falls among the elderly at home.

Objective: To understand the related risk behaviors, knowledge and status of HIV/AIDS infection among rural adults of Derung minority, to provide relevant messages for the development of HIV/AIDS intervention strategy in this minority group. Methods: We used system sampling method to conduct a cross-sectional survey in 6 administration villages of Derung Township, Gongshan Derung and Nu Autonomous County in Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture of Yunnan Province, with a sample size estimated as 383. Adult residents with Derung minority in six villages of Gongshan County were involved, with relevant information collected through door-to-door visit. HIV antibody was tested and SPSS 17.0 was used for statistical analysis. Results: Information on 394 valid respondents was collected, with age as between 18 and 65 (34.39±9.74), 80.7% (318/394) as married, 54.0% (213/394) having had primary school education, 13.2% (52/394) as migrant workers. In this population, the overall HIV infection rate appeared as 0.5% (2/400), mainly through sexually transmission. The rate of awareness on HIV/AIDS was 69.8% (275/394), mainly through free publicized materials 50.0% (197/394). Rates on premarital sexual behavior on multiple sexual partners in the past year, on temporary sexual partners in the past year, having commercial sexual experiences in the past year and ever used condoms when engaging in casual sex, were 6.4% (60/366), 18.0%(66/366), 5.7%(21/366), 1.9%(7/366) and 8.0%(25/311), respectively. Conclusions: Few numbers of HIV infections were identified among the migrating workers with Derung minority, with sexual transmission as the major route, along with the increased number of rural migrant workers and the low rates both on AIDS knowledge and condom use, accompanied by the high risk sexual behavior appeared in this rural adult residents of Derung minority. Relative strategies on HIV/AIDS intervention and control should be developed.
