International Journal of Cerebrovascular Diseases 2008;16(12):898-901
Transient ischemic attack (TIA) is the most important early warning signal of cerebral infarction, and it is also the critical period for the prevention of cerebral infarction. If we effectively control the risk factors of TIA, the onset and the progress of TIA can be prevented and controlled, This article reviews the correlation between the risk factors of TIA and prognosis.
5.Acute brain injuries and neuronal apoptosis
Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2005;9(41):190-192
OBJECTIVE: Controversy over the presence of neuronal apoptosis in acute brain injuries has not been resolved due to the lack of direct evidence. In this article, the authors briefly review the current research progress of apoptosis and discuss the relationship between acute brain injuries and neuronal apoptosis.DATA SOURCES: A computer-based retrieval for relevant papers with abstracts indexed in Medline database published in English full text between January 1995 and February 2005 was conducted using the key words of "acute brain injuries" and "Neuronal apoptosis". Related articles in Chinese full text published between January 2000 and December 2004 were also searched in Chinese periodical full text database, Wanfang databases with key words of "acute traumatic brain injury, neuronal apoptosis".STUDY SELECTION: The retrieved articles were first examined to exclude review articles and repetitions, and only randomized and non-randomized controlled experiments or clinical trials on acute traumatic brain injury and neuronal apoptosis were included.DATA EXTRACTION: Altogether 136 articles directly related to acute traumatic brain injury and neuronal apoptosis were collected, among which 19 met the inclusion criteria with the other 117 removed for repetition or irrelevancy.DATA SYNTHESIS: The valid articles were reviewed to identify the factors related to neuronal apoptosis, apoptotic network theory, detection methods of apoptosis, and the relationship between acute traumatic brain injury and neuronal apoptosis as well as the possible mechanisms.CONCLUSION: Neuronal apoptosis occurs after acute traumatic brain injury, which induces intrinsic and extrinsic neuronal environment changes including increased extracellular excitatory amino acid content, massive free radical production and abnormal gene expression. These factors interact with each other and modulate neuronal apoptosis through multiple pathways.
6.Functions of caspase-3 in repair of acute cerebral and spinal injuries
Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2005;9(37):190-192
OBJECTIVE: To probe into the progression of biochemical study on caspase-3 and its functions in disorders of center nerve system.DATA SOURCES:The relevant papers were looked up on Medline database from January 1995 to February 2005 with the retrieved words as"caspase-3", "apoptosis", "center nerve system" and "emergency diseases" in combination, limited in English version.STUDY SELECTION: By initial checking, the papers on caspase-3 in molecular biology and randomized control experiments on caspase-3 and the disorders in center nerve system were collected.DATA EXTRACTION: Totally 156 papers were collected directly related to caspase-3 and center nerve system, of which, 25 papers were in conformity with the criteria and 131 papers were exuded because of repeated contents and indirect relation with this paper.DATA SYNTHESIS: To synthesize the relevant information from the retrieved papers and sum up that the activity of caspase-3 is increased after acute cerebral injury, acute spinal injury, cerebral ischemia and cerebral hemorrhage and broadspectrum caspase-3 inhibitor, Z-VAD-fmk can reduce significantly the activity of caspase-3.CONCLUSION: Caspase-3 is the most important protease in cell apoptosis, it is the component in downstream effect of coordination of various apoptotic approaches and is the only way in protease cascade of cell apoptosis. The activated caspase-3 can split the essential and protective enzymes in cell and result in the alternations of apeptosis in morphology and biochemistry. DNA segmentation is the important biochemical property of nerve cell apoptosis at early stage in acute cerebral injury and the formation of it is necessary.
7.Assessment of Left Ventricular Regional Diastolic Function in Different Degrees of Coronary Stenosis by Three-dimensional Speckle Tracking Imaging
Chinese Journal of Medical Imaging 2016;24(1):19-23
Purpose To evaluate the left ventricular regional diastolic function in coronary heart disease (CHD) patients without regional wall motion abnormality by real-time three-dimensional speckle tracking imaging (RT3D-STI) to investigate the value of RT3D-STI in the diagnosis of early CHD. Materials and Methods 140 CHD patients with 420 coronary artery main branches were enrolled and divided into 4 groups according to the results of coronary angiography (CAG): normal group (101 coronary artery branches without stenosis), mild stenosis group (112 coronary artery branches with stenosis<50%), moderate stenosis group (95 coronary artery branches with stenosis 50%-75%) and sever stenosis group (112 coronary artery branches with stenosis>75%). Three dimensional full volume images were collected through the chest, and the corresponding strain imaging diastolic index (SI-DI) of each direction was calculated, their value for the diagnosis of coronary artery disease was analyzed. Results The longitudinal, area and radial SI-DI of mild coronary artery stenosis group were lower than those of normal group (P<0.05);the longitudinal, area, radial and circumferential SI-DI of moderate coronary artery stenosis group were lower than normal group (P<0.05) and the area, longitudinal and circumferential SI-DI were lower than those of the mild stenosis group (P<0.05);the longitudinal, area, radial and circumferential SI-DI were all lower than those of normal and mild stenosis group (P<0.05), and the area, longitudinal and radial SI-DI were all lower than the moderate stenosis group (P<0.05). ROC curve showed that the sensitivity of longitudinal SI-DI (84.0%) was highest, while the specificity of area SI-DI (78.9%) was the highest. Conclusion RT3D-STI has important significance for early detection and diagnosis of CHD, regional diastolic function decrease of the coronary artery supply area occurs earlier than systolic function reduction, and diastolic function is more sensitive for myocardial ischemia, as a result, SI-DI is able to reflect the stenosis degree of coronary artery in a certain extent.

Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2016;20(24):3642-3648
BACKGROUND:Cilium is an antenna-like organele that plays a vital role in al organs generation and maintenance.Ciliopathiesrefer tomultisystem diseasescaused bydisordersofthecilia structure and function. OBJECTIVE:To introduce current understanding of the structure and function of the cilium, with afocus on the study progress ofciliopathies. METHODS:PubMed databasewas searched by computerusing the keywords of“primary cilium, motion cilium, ciliopathy”.Totally 371 relevantarticlespublished from 1959 to 2015 were retrieved. After excluding repetitive and irrelevant articles,we enrolled32 English literaturesregardingcilia structure, functionand ciliopathiesin accordance with the inclusion criteria. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Ciliopathiesalmostinvolve every system of the human body, such asthe brain, eyes, liver, kidney, bone and reproductive system. Most ciliopathies are related to human developmental or degenerative diseases, which characterized by wide-ranging clinical and genetic heterogeneity, such asprimary ciliary dyskinesia, ploycystic kidney disease, infertility, blindness and tumor. In view ofthemedical importanceof the cilium, scholars have devoted tostudyingthe underlying celular mechanisms.Thesein turnhave revealed thatciliopathiesare not only caused bydefectiveassemblyof the cilium, but also by impaired ciliarysignaling.
