1.PSSTD guidelines on the management of GTD patients during the COVID-19 pandemic (June 2020)
Philippine Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology 2020;44(4):34-36
The impact of the pandemic, caused by SARS-CoV-2, on the management of malignancies has posed several challenges. Gestational trophoblastic diseases, being considered highly curative, are categorized as emergent cases which need immediate intervention with a level I priority for chemotherapy for its malignant spectrum.
These guidelines have been drawn up to assist in decision-making and the implementation of such are dependent on the capabilities of each institution combined with their local experience.
2.Dynamic studies on physiological and biochemical changes during fruit development of Panax notoginseng
Chinese Traditional and Herbal Drugs 1994;0(07):-
Objective The physiological and biochemical changes were studied during the Panax notoginseng′s fruit development. Methods Dynamic changes of fruits size, fresh and dry weight, moisture content and soluble sugar, starch and protein contents were investigated. Results The moisture content was increased first and then dropped to 73.37% at maturity. The fresh and dry weight, starch and protein contents of P.notoginseng′s fruits were increased with the fruit development. The soluble sugar content was raised first, then decreased, and increased slightly at the lateral stage of fruit development. Conclusion The P.notoginseng′s fruits are mature at 80 d after peak anthesis;the decrease of moisture content is companied with the gradual increasing of fruit fresh and dry weight during the fruit development. The storage and utilization of nutrients in P.notoginseng′s fruits are closely related with the fruit development.
3.Development and verification of plaque method for detection of tick-borne encephalitis virus titer
Chinese Journal of Biologicals 2023;36(2):207-
Objective To develop and verify a plaque method for detection of infectious titer of tick-borne encephalitis virus(TBEV)strain(PHKT strain for short)adapted to primary hamster kidney(PHK)cells. Methods PHK cells were infected with TBEV,a primary mouse brain adaption strain, and passed consecutively for 12 passages. The titer of PHKT was detected by plaque method(Monolayer BHK-21 cells were infected with PHKT of various passages at different dilution ratios, and the plaque number was calculated by neutral red staining)and challenge titration in mouse brain(Mice were challenged with PHKT of various passages at different dilution ratios through brain cavity,0.03 mL for each, observed continuously for 14 days, and calculated for the median lethal dose(LD50)by Reed-Muench method)respectively, and the correlation between the results of two methods was analyzed. The developed plaque method for the detection of TBEV titer was verified for specificity, repeatability and intermediate precision. Results The plaque titer of PHKT virus was up to8.9 lgPFU/mL;The correlation between the results of plaque method and mouse brain challenge titration method was good(r = 0.92);The specificity of plaque method for detecting infectious titer of PHKT virus was good, and the coefficients of variation(CVs)of repeatability and intermediate precision were both less than 5%.Conclusion A plaque method for detecting infectious titer of PHKT virus was developed, which may be used as an alternative method for challenge titration in mouse brain.
4.A Systematic Review on the Intervention Using Exercise Gaming to reduce Childhood Obesity
The International Medical Journal Malaysia 2019;18(2):139-146
The worsening trend of childhood obesity is a global public health issue. Digital technology evolution is a
contributing factor towards physical inactivity and obesity among children. In order to overcome this
growing problem, exercise games have been introduced in early eighties to ameliorate this obesogenic
environment. Exercise games utilize innovative technologies that provide an interactive environment,
requiring gestures and body movements to simulate on-screen gameplay. The objective of this review is to
assess the effectiveness of exercise gaming intervention in managing childhood obesity. A systematic review
was performed. Six articles examining exercise video games impact on weight management among children
published between January 2013 and December 2017 in the English language were selected from a total of 54
articles identified through five major search engines. Majority of the researchwas conducted in developed
countries particularly in the United States whereby some developing countries had started with small-scale
researches in this area. The result indicated that there was a significant increase in physical activity
level, reduction of BMI, reduced adipose tissue composition and a positive psychological impact after the
intervention of exercise games. However, the impact of exercise games on physiological and metabolic
parameters were inconclusive and requires further study. In conclusion, exercise games are the effective
way to combat childhood obesity, along with other modules of lifestyle.
5.A design and application of electrocardiograph without lead wire for first-aid
Chinese Critical Care Medicine 2021;33(1):111-112
The electrocardiograph is used to record the bioelectric signals generated by the activation of myocardium when the heart is active. It is a commonly used medical electronic instrument for clinical diagnosis and first-aid. However, electrocardiograph adopts a lead wire connection method in existing technology, which is prone to interweaving of wires during movement. It will not only break and wear the lead wire, but also delay the treatment time due to the cleaning of the lead wire. In addition, because the battery capacity is small, it needs to be charged frequently after use, which affects the speed of the instrument use and first-aid. Moreover, the original adsorbed chest lead electrode has a small contact surface with the skin, leading to less comfort and easy to fall off. In order to solve the above problems, an electrocardiograph without lead wire for first-aid was designed by medical staff of Tianjin First Central Hospital, and the National Utility Model Patent of China was obtained (Patent No.: ZL 2019 2 2267837.3). The electrocardiograph adopts the method of wirelessly connecting electrodes, avoids entanglement of lead wire, and increases the portable power source, which prolongs the battery endurance time, improves the contact electrode performance of chest lead and increases the contact surface, the above improvements optimize the medical process operated by medical staff, which is more conducive to clinical first-aid and routine examination, and has the advantages of easy to use, easy to carry and strong safety.
6.Observation on the effect of metformin combined with nutrition and exercise therapy on metabolic syndrome
Chinese Journal of Biochemical Pharmaceutics 2017;37(7):52-53,56
Objective To study the effect of metformin combined with nutrition and exercise therapy on metabolic syndrome. Methods 100 patients treated in our hospitcal from July 2012 to April 2017 were randomly divided into two groups. The control group received metformin treatment. The patients in the experimental group received metformin combined with nutrition and exercise therapy.Blood pressure(BP), TG, LDL-C, HDL-C and WC were measured and compared between the two groups after three months of treatment. The therapeutic effect of the two groups was determined. Results The effective rate was 60.0% in the control group and 80.0% in the experimental group. The difference was statistically significant(x2=9.52, P<0.05).The improvement of metabolic biochemical indexes in the control group was not obvious after treatment, and the improvement of metabolic biochemical indexes in the experimental group was significant after treatment, and the difference statistically significant(P<0.05).The patients in the experimental group were better than those in the control group after treatment, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.01).Conclusion Metformin combined with nutrition and exercise therapy can relieve the clinical signs of metabolic syndrome more effectively. The treatment is worthy of promotion in clinical practice.
