Traditional Chinese Drug Research & Clinical Pharmacology 1993;0(03):-
Objective Effect of Zhizhu decoction ( ZD) on mast cells( MC) of colonic mucosa in mice with constipation due to spleen asthenia was observed and the relationship between MC and the immunoreactivity of substance P ( SP) and somatostatin ( SS) was explored to investigate the therapeutic mechanism of ZD.Methods The mice models with constipation due to spleen asthenia were induced by the discordance between starvation and engorgement plus overfatigue. The MC count and SP and SS expression were detected by modified toluidine blue method and LSAB immunohistochemical method respectively, and then analyzed with IMS color image processing system and related software. Results The MC density in the colonic mucosa in the constipated mice was reduced. The MC density was correlated positively with the mean intensity and area of SP immunoreactivity ( r=0.6508, P

Objective To investigate the MRI features of progressiv e mu scular dystrophy (PMD), and evaluate the diagnostic value of MRI for PMD. Methods Thirty-three biopsy-proved PMD patients underwent MRI of face, scapular, thigh, and leg, including 16 cases of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), 2 cases of Beck er′s muscular dystrophy, 5 cases of limb-girdle muscular dystrophy, and 10 c ases o f facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy. Spin echo sequence, fast spin echo seq uence, and STIR sequence were utilized. Results The signal inte nsity of disease d muscle with DMD, limb-girdle muscular dystrophy, and Becker′s muscular dystr op hy was hyperintense on both T_1-weighted images(T_1WI) and T_2-weighted ima ges (T_2WI). Gracilis muscle of 21 cases, sartorius muscle of 19 cases, semiten dinosus mus cle of 19 cases, and tibialis posterior muscle of 20 cases were relatively spare d. Ten cases with facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy displayed two kinds of a bnormal signals: hyperintense on T_2WI and hypointense on T_1WI in all 10 ca ses;hyperintense on both T_2WI and T_1WI in 7 cases. Conclusion The MRI findings in PMD show certain characteri stics: (1)the involved muscles are mainly replaced by fat. (2)On the lower extre mi ty, Gracilis muscle, sartorius muscle, semitendinosus muscle, and tibialis poste rior muscle were relatively spared in DMD, limb-girdle muscular dystrophy, and B ecker′ muscular dystrophy.(3) Facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy displays t wo kinds of abnormal signals which represent fat replacement and inflammatory edem a lesion. MRI can provide objective data for clinical diagnosis, therapeutic eva luation, and follow-up. It can also help to decide the accurate localizations f or biopsies.

Journal of Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine 2001;0(01):-
[ Objective ] To assess the quality of clinical randomised controlled trials (RCT) of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for acute myocardial infarction (AMI). [Methods] Eighty - three journals of TCM from the first issues of 1977 to the latest issues of 2002 were manually searched and reviewed under the following inclusion criteria: clinical trials of TCM for AMI with 'randomized controlled or randomised being mentioned. And a questionnaire was designed according to the criteria of RCT with the items of diagnostic standard, consistent of baseline, method of randomization, concealment in allocation, blind method, intention - to - treat analysis, statistic methods and conclusion. Percentages of each item were figured out to assess the quality. [Results] Two thousand five hundred and one trials were associated with heart diseases, among which 102 were associated with AMI and 42 accorded with the inclusion criteria. Calculation method of sample size, concealment in allocation and intention - to - treat analysis after drop - out were mentioned in none of the 42 articles, single - blind method adopted in 4 (9.52%) , diagnostic standard described in 40 (95.24%), baseline consistent illuminated in 27 (64.29%), method of randomization presented in 8 (19.05%) , statistic methods used mistakenly in 6 (14.28%) and statistic methods not described in 18 (42.86%). [Conclusion] There still exist some problems in the design of RCT of TCM for AMI: (1) mistaken use of randomization method; (2) less adoption of calculation method of sample size, concealment in allocation and intention - to - treat analysis after drop - out; (3) improper application of statistic methods; (4) lower rate of utilization for blind study.

Herald of Medicine 2001;(4):252-253
Clinical symptoms with serum theoph ylline level above normal therapeutical range were analysed in 32 case. Methods: Theophylline 20μgmL-1 invserum was defined as the upper limit of normal therapeutical range. The case records with serum theo phylline concentraed ≥20μgmL-1 were selected from 324 cases, analyse d in combination with clinical symptoms. Results: Patients with serum theophylline concentration ≥20 μgmL-1 showed toxic reacti ons involving cardiovasucular, digestive, and nervous systems. One third of them took simultaneously other drugs which could decrease the metabolism of theophyl line. Conclusion: In order to prevent and diagnose toxicr eactions effectively, it's necessary to monitor the patients'serum theophylline level.
