Objective: To evaluate the effect of concomitant chemoradiotherapy for the prevention of recurrence and metastasis of postoperative salivary adenoid cystic carcinoma(SACC).Methods: 14 cases of salivary adenoid cystic carcinoma after operation were treated with concomitant chemoradiotherapy. Regular radiotherapy of 60 Gy and chemotherapy with hydroxycamptothecin (HCPT) at 10 mg/m 2 , 3 times a week, were administered. HCPT was given in 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th week. Recurrence and metastasis of SACC after operation were observed using CT, MRI, ultrasonography and X ray. Results: After 3~17 months' follow up, relapse free survival was 100%. No recurrence and metastasis of SACC after operation were found. Adverse reactions of the chemotherapy were nausea, vomiting and leukopenia. After suspended in a short time and using ondansetron and /or G CSF the chemotherapy of HCPT was continued and completed. Conclusion: concomitant chemoradiotherapy of HCPT and radiotherapy can prevent recurrence and metastasis of SACC after operation. The efficacy of long term needs further observation.

Objective: To sammarize the methodology of the treatment of alveolar cleft by autogenous cancellous bone graft obtained with mini incision(ABGM).Methods: 22 cases of alveolar cleft received ABGM by one operator. The cleft area was restored with autogenous cancellous bone from iliac crest by cylinder osteotomes for extraction of bone transplants(COEBT) with mini incision. All the patients were follow up for at least six months postoperatively. The result of the bone grafting was evaluated on the radiographs. Results: ①The overall survival rate of ABGM was 95.8%,and clinical successful rate was 91.7%;②The successful rate of ABGM in group of patients above 18 year old, or with complete cleft palate or bilateral cleft lip and palate was lower than that in other groups.③The wound for extracting autogenous cancellous bone from iliac crest by COEBT with mini incision was smaller than that by osteotomy. Conclusion: ABGM with COEBT is an effective way in the treatment of alveolar cleft. The successful rate of ABGM is related with the age and cleft style of the patients.

OBJECTIVETo study the clinico pathologic factors influencing postoperative survival rate in mucoepidermoid carcinoma of salivary glands.
METHODSA retrospective study of seventy patients with mucoepidermoid carcinoma of salivary glands has been carried out. All cases underwent primary surgical resection in our hospital were followed up and clinicopathologic factors influencing the postoperative survival rate of patients were investigated. Statistical analysis was conducted using a computer program (SPSS). The data were statistically treated according to the Kaplan-Meier method. The Log rank tests were employed to assess the statistical significance of various groups.
RESULTSThe 3-, 5- and 10-year overall survival rate were 90.66%, 88.85% and 86.63%, respectively. The patients with tumors' diameter less than 4 cm, early clinical stage (stage I and II), well differentiated tumor cells, without lymph nodes involvement, without local recurrence and metastasis after primary surgical resection had a long survival term. The patients with tumors' diameter more than 4 cm, with lymph nodes involvement, advanced clinical stage (stage III and IV), poor differentiated, with local recurrence and metastasis after primary surgical resection demonstrated a short survival term.
CONCLUSIONTNM and clinical stage, the degree of differentiation, with or without local recurrence and metastasis after primary surgical resection are the important factors influencing the postoperative survival time.
