1.STUDIES ON MILK SUBSTITUTESⅣ. The effect of supplementing Milk Substitute 5410 with cod liver oil, thiamin or yeast on the growth of rats
Acta Nutrimenta Sinica 1956;0(02):-
In a previous communication we have reported that the nutritive value of Milk Substitute 5410 is comparable to that of a cow's milk diet, as measured by the growth of rats, despite its low vitamin A and thiamin contents. In the present investigation, the vitamin A or thiamin content of this Substitute was raised up to the level of the requirement of infants The vitamin A was furnished by cod liver oil, and thiamin was supplied in the form thiamin hydrochloride or yeast. Weanling rats of mixed sexes were used. After 16 weeks on diet, it was found that the male rats were 14-17% heavier in body weight and 4.4-5,8% longer in body length than the unsupplemented controls. These differences were maintained till the end of the experiment when the animals were practically fully grown. The total feed consumption and feed efficiency of the supplemented groups were higher than those of the control, especially in case of the male rats.

Microbiology 1992;0(01):-
Rhizobium strains isolated from Acacia farnesiana were positive for oxidase, catalase, urease, penicillinase and ?-galactosidase. The quantitative determination of enzymatic acti- vity indicated that these strains possessed 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (6PGD) and ?- galactosidase activities but Bradyrhizobium japonicum didn't possess 6PGD and ?-galactosi- dase activities. Six strains isolated from A. farnesiana may be divided into two groups according to esterase pattern on PAGE: strains AF 1, AF2 and AF3' possessed A band on esterase pattern but strains AF4, AF5 and AF6 didn't.

Objective To evaluate the application value of BODE and the relationship between BODE index and life quality in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in rural China. Methods A total of 26 rural patients with stable COPD were enrolled. BODE index and it's four components including body mass index ( BMI ), airflow obstruction ( FEV1 % ), dyspnea ( MMRC ) and exercise capacity ( 6MWD ) were calculated. St. Georgeps Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ) were used to evaluate health-related quality of life of these patients. Results The BODE index was significantly correlated with the SGRQ total score , symptom ,activity and impact score ( r = 0. 674,0. 430,0. 460,0. 495 respectively, Ps < 0. 05 ). GOLD grade was only significantly correlated with the SGRQ total score and active score( r =0. 447,0. 418 ,Ps <0. 05 ). Stepwise liner multiple regression analysis showed that activity score of SGRRQ was an influence factor of BODE index. 6MWD of BODE index( t = - 2. 397, P = 0. 025 ) and MMRC ( t = 2. 257, P = 0. 034 ) were independently correlated with activity scores of SGRQ . Conclusion BODE index and life quality had significant relationship. 6MWD and MMRC of BODE index were the most powerful influence factors of life quality in rural COPD patients.

Percutaneous vertebroplasty has many advantages such as minimal trauma, simple mode of operation, rapid and correct therapeutic effect, high safety, and wide indications. Therefore it has been generally paid close attention and accepted. Percutaneous vertebroplasty has conspicuous curative effect, especially in vertebral compression fracture. Polymethyl methacrylate is the most used filling materials at present; There is not significant difference between unipedicular and bipedicular vertebroplasty; Using vertebral body venography and appropriate dense bone cement can reduce leakage of bone cement; Bolster for self-replacement can rebound vertebral body height, and balloon kyphoplasty and sky bone expander kyphoplasty can be avoided; In order to reduce refracture of vertebral body, anti-osteoporosis drugs should be used in the treatment of percutaneous vertebroplasty.

Objective Near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy was used as a fast analytical technique in the ethanol reflux-extraction process of red ginseng. Methods The NIR spectra of the extracting solution of red ginseng were obtained and the reference measurements of the active constituent in the extracting solution were performed by the colorimetric method. Firstly, the interference information in the spectra was detected by orthogonal signal correction (OSC) method. Then a calibration model between NIR spectra and reference measurements was established by partial least square regression. Results The results showed that the predictive accuracy of NIR calibration model used for the determination of ginsenoside in ethanol extracting process of red ginseng was good. Conclusion NIR Spectroscopy could be applied to the fast analysis for ethanol extracting processes of red ginseng.

OBJECTIVE:To investigate the role of clinical pharmacists on drug therapy for acute exacerbations of chronic ob-structive pulmonary disease(AECOPD)patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH). METHODS:Clinical pharmacists partici-pated in drug therapy for a AECOPD patient with BPH. According to clinical guideline and relevant literatures, based on the history of disease, the characteristics of bronchodilators and the symptoms of acute urinary retention,it was suggested to stop taking Ip-ratropium bromide solution for inhalation but receive Finasteride capsules 5 mg,po,qd,to reduce prostate volume and improve ob-struction+Terazosin hydrochloride tablets 2 mg,po,qd,to relax urethral smooth muscle;the occurrence of ADR was monitored closely. Salmeterol xinafoate and fluticasone propionate powder for inhalation was suggested and medication guidance for patients af-ter discharge was given by clinical pharmacists. RESULTS:Physicians adopted some suggestions of clinical pharmacists. The pa-tient was stable and had no dysuria. The patient was allowed to leave the hospital with drugs. CONCLUSIONS:Rational use of bronchodilators is directly related to the remission of clinical symptoms and prognosis in AECOPD patients. In view of patient's dis-ease history, drug characteristics and clinical symptoms, clinical pharmacists point to possible risks of anticholinergics use,and as-sist physicians to formulate and adjust therapy plan so as to guarantee the safety and effectiveness of drug use.

OBJECTIVE:To establish a method for the content determination of chlorogenic acid, protocatechuic acid and total phenolics in Chaenomeles sinensis, compare the content of total phenolics and 2 phenolic acids from different areas. METHODS:Wavelength switching HPLC method was conducted to determine the chlorogenic acid and protocatechuic acid. The column was Shim-pack CLC-ODS(M)with the mobile phase of acetonitrile-0.1% phoephoric acid(15∶85,V/V),the detection wavelength was 259 nm(for protocatechuic acid)and 325 nm(for chlorogenic acid)and the switching time was 14 min. With the index of proto-catechuic acid,Folin-Ciocalteau colorimetric method was conducted to determine the total phenolics. RESULTS:The 2 methods of quantitative analysis showed that the precision, repeatability, recoveries and standard curves were all validated by methodology. The mass fraction of total phenolics was 0.87%-3.77% with the average of 2.16%;the chlorogenic acid was 0.053%-0.387% with the average of 0.192% and the protocatechuic acid was 0.024%-0.541% with the average of 0.087%. The order of total phenolics content in C. sinensis from different areas was Yunnan>Anhui Xuancheng>Sichuan>Hubei and the order of total amount of chlo-rogenic acid and protocatechuic acid from different areas was the same as the total phenolics. There were differences among the con-tents of C. sinensis from different areas, however, the positive correlation was found between the content of total phenolics and the total amount of chlorogenic acid and protocatechuic acid with the pearson correlation coefficient of 0.719(P<0.01).CONCLU-SIONS:The established method is simple, accurate and reproducible and can be used for the content determination of chlorogenic acid, protocatechuic acid and total phenolics in chaenomelis fructus.

Objective To investigate the relationship between the expression of MIF mRNA and TNF-α in the lung tissue of rats with acute necrotizing pancreatitis (ANP) and explore their mechanism of action in acute lung injury during the course of ANP. Methods A total of 40 Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into four groups (n = 10 in each group) : the sham operation (SO) group, ANP 3h group, 6h group, 12h group. The model of ANP was induced by retrograde injection of 5% sodium tanrocholate (0. 1 ml/100 g) into the biliary and pancreatic duct. The level of serum amylase was determined;pancreatic and lung tissues were harvested for pathological examination, and wet/dry weight ratios were estimated. Intrapulmonary expression of MIF mRNA was assayed by semi-quantitative RT-PCR. TNF-α in pulmonary homogenate was measured by immunoradiometric assay. Results Serum amylase, wet/dry weight ratios of pancreatic and lung tissues all significantly increased, and pathological injuries aggravated with time in ANP groups. Levels of TNF-α in ANP 3h, 6h, 12h group were (0.69 ± 0. 107) ng/ml, (1.64 ± 0. 10) ng/ml and (0.92 ± 0.11) ng/ml, and expression of MIF mRNA were 1.97±0.09, 2.55±0.23, 3.29±0.26, which were significantly higher than those in control group [(0. 19±0.06)ng/ml, 1.21±0.34, P<0.01]. lntrapulmonary expression of MIF mRNA was positively associated with lung pathological injuries, wet/dry weight ratio, and TNF-α(r = 0. 637, r = 0.684, r = 0.858, P < 0.01). Intrapulmonary levels of TNF-α was positively associated with lung pathological injuries, wet/dry weight ratio (r=0.540, r=0.421, P<0.01). Conclusions MIF mRNA was over- expressed and level of TNF-α was significantly increased in pulmonary tissue in rats with ANP, and this may be one of the mechanisms in the pathogenesis of lung injury in ANP.
