2.The analgesic effects of electroacupuncture stimulation.

For the purpose of estimating the analgesic mechanisums of the electroacupuncture stimulation and relating the adrenocortical function with its analgesic effect, the deviation value of the pain threshold by the stimulation and β-endorphin, Met-enkephalin lebels in the cerebrospinal fluid [CSF] and also cortisol lebel in the blood were observed in experimented dogs.
The both lebels of CSF and cortisol lebel in blood were significantly increased by the electroacupuncture analgesia. These result suggest that in this analgesia, the hypophysis-adrenal cortex system was activated simultaneously with the production of an endogeneous opiate. Using a new designed pain meter system [non-contact thermal stimulator] for the small animals, increasing of the pain threshold lebels was observed objectively.
3.A Case of Long Term Survival for Left Ventricular Assist Device Related Mediastinitis with Negative Pressure Wound Therapy

A 44-year-old man who received left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation for end-stage heart failure due to dilated cardiomyopathy suffered from mediastinitis. Computed tomography confirmed mediastinitis. His mediastinum was reopened and irrigated. Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) was applied to the wound without closing the chest. This system enabled the patient to receive early physical rehabilitation. One year after LVAD implantation, under NPWT, the patient could walk in the general ward, and was waiting for cardiac transplantation. We used some useful materials for NPWT including a coatable non-alcoholic film, flexible sealing sheet, soft exudate absorber, in order to control wound clean, keep air-tight, prevent damage to the skin and to reduce mediastinal instability. LVAD implantation is usually performed as a bridge to transplantation or recovery. One of the most critical complications is intractable mediastinitis. We described a successful infection control of LVAD related mediastinitis with the NPWT.
4.Attempted Cleaning of a Closed Cycle Type Cell Culture Incubator

Since fiscal year 2015, our hospital has conducted regular hospital inspections by a medical engineer (ME). About 1 year after the start of this inspection, fungi and common bacteria were detected, so we searched for the cause and report here successful cleanup of the incubator. When the incubator was cleaned during a periodic inspection, the ME discovered that dirt mainly adhered to the fan and the bed rest. Also, fungi were detected from the fans, so the ME cleaned and disinfected all the fans and then switched to a process of washing the central supply room. Following this process, bacteria were no longer detected from inside the incubator, but they have been consistently detected from the fans. We have no reported cases of patient infection, and we believe this is because the ME is responsible for periodic cleaning against bacteria and for conducting inspections. This demonstrates that successful cleaning of the incubator led to control of the spread of infectious diseases.
