Objective To analyze the impact of health service and some other factors on the improvement of health. Methods The production function model introduced by Auster was employed. With the age adjusted mortality taken to be the output of health and factors like health service, life style, living environment, economy, and education taken to be the input, the two-stage least square was used to analyze the impact as well as the degree of the impact of the various factors. Results The impact of health service, the contribution of which to the age adjusted mortality was around 0.37, was greater than that of education but smaller than that of economy. Conclusion The result indicates that health service is an important influencing factor in the improvement of health. Full attention ought to be paid to it so that investment into health, especially public health, will be expanded and the health of the people better protected.

Objective To investigate the expression of Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF)and its receptors mRNAs in ovary tissues of letrozole-induced polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)in rats. Methods The SD rats were divided into two groups (moder group and control group),20 rats in each group. The rat models of PCOS were established by letrozole.Serum sex hormone levels were determined by radioimmunoassay. The histologic changes in ovaries were observed by Hematoxylin-eosin stai-ning,and the expression of BDNF and its receptors gene in ovary tissues was detected by Real-time PCR.Results Although the se-rum testosterone,follicle-stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone levels in model group were markedly increased more than those in the control group (P < 0.01 ),estradiol and progesterone in model group showed a considerable reduction (P < 0.05 ). When compared with the control group, model group rats showed increased ovarian volume and high incidence of subcapsular ovari-an cysts together with decreased number of corpora lutea. The expression of BDNF and p75 mRNAs was significantly higher in model group than that in the control group(P <0.05),but the expression of TrkB mRNA reduced(P <0.05).Conclusion BDNF/TrkB/p75 expressed in ovarian tissues may play a specific role on follicular developmental disorders in letrozole-induced PCOS rats.

To investigate the therapeutic effect of peroxiredoxin-6(PRDX6)on ultraviolet-induced corneal injury in rats and explore the mechanism. The rat model of corneal injury was established by exposing to ultravio-let.Male wister rats were randomly divided into control groups, dexamethasone (DXM)groups and PRDX6 groups, the rats were administered four times a day and for 12 days. The corneal opacity was observed with a slit-lamp microscope.Histopathologic changes were observed with light microscopy. The content of corneal malonalde-hyde(MDA)was determined by thiobarbituric acid test and the total antioxidative capacity(TAOC)was detected by chemical colorimetric test.P38 MAPK signal pathway was detected with the method of Western blot and the gene expression of cytokines were measured by RT-PCR method.Compared with the control group,PRDX6 treat-ment significantly reduced corneal opacity, improved corneal pathology injury, decreased the MDA content and in-creased the TAOC.In the PRDX6 group the level of phosphorylated p38 protein was significantly lower than that in the control group. The gene expression of cytokine were different between control and PRDX6 groups(P <0.05).PRDX6 showed therapeutic effect in the rat model of ultraviolet-induced corneal injury. This maybe be concerned with that it could alleviated the oxidative damage, suppressed p38 MAPK phosphorylation and regulate the gene expression of cytokine.

Objective To investigate the inhibitory effect of X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis associated factor-1(XAF1) on xenograft growth in nude mice with hepatocellular carcinoma. Methods The models of xenografted nude mice with human hepatocellular carcinoma cell line SMMC7721 were established. Intratumor injection was performed on three tumor sites in each group of mice (n=5) with recombinant adenovirus Ad5/F35-XAF1, control virus Ad5/F35-Null at the same infective titre or PBS of the same volume every two days for two weeks. The volumes of xenografts in all nude mice were measured every three days, and the differences between Ad5/F35-XAF1 group and the other two groups were compared. The apoptosis of tumor cells was determined by in situ end-labeling TUNEL method, the expression of XAF1 protein and microvessel density (MVD) were detected by immunohistochemistry. Results Intratumoral injection of Ad5/F35-XAF1 significantly inhibited the growth of tumor xenografts with smaller tumor size, less tumor weight and lower MVD compared with those injected with control virus Ad5/F35-Null and PBS (P<0.05 or P<0.01). However, the apoptosis index and expression of XAF1 protein in Ad5/F35-XAF1 group were significantly increased compared with the other two groups (P<0.01). Conclusion Ad5/F35-XAF1 significantly inhibits xenograft growth in nude mice with hepatocellular carcinoma, which is probably associated with the effects of XAF1 inducing hepatocellular carcinoma cell apoptosis and suppressing tumor angiogenesis.

Objective Neuroinflammation following traumatic brain injury (TBI) may give rise to neurodisorder. This study aimed to investigate the effect of intranasal delivery of nerve growth factor ( NGF) on neuroinflammation following TBI and its action mechanism in rats. Methods Thirty-six male adult Sprague-Dawley rats were equally divided into a sham , a TBI, and a TBI+NGF group. The rats in the TBI +NGF group were treated with NGF intranasally at 12 and 24 hours after TBI.The levels of IL-1βand TNF-αin the injured cerebral cortex were detected by ELISA , the DNA-binding activity of NF-κB evaluated by EMSA , and the expres-sion of amyloid-β( Aβ42 ) determined by Western blot . Results NGF attenuated the inflammation following TBI .Compared with the TBI group, the level of IL-1βwas obviously decreased in the TBI +NGF group at 12 hours (70.65 ±3.10 vs 37.51 ±1.92) and 24 hours (68.85 ±8.10 vs 36.23 ±2.99, P<0.05), and so was that of TNF-α(47.12 ±7.38 vs 27.63 ±5.77 and 56.15 ±11.20 vs 29.94 ±8.62, P<0.05).The DNA-binding activity of NF-κB was reduced to 111.62 ±0.49 and 131.52 ±0.88, and the expression of Aβ42 to 0.23 ±0.008 and 0.52 ±0.004 at 12 and 24 hours respectively after treatment with NGF , both with statistically significant differences from the TBI group (P<0.05). Conclusion Intranasal administration of NGF attenuates TBI-induced neuroinflamma-tion in rats, which may be associated with its regulatory effect on the Aβ42/NF-κB signaling pathway .
