AIM: To study the effect of curcumin on the extracellular matrix of aorta in cardiac overloaded rats. METHODS: Cardiac overloaded model was made by partial click of the abdominal aorta in Sprague Dawley rats. Curcmin, 100 mg?kg -1 ?d -1 for 3 weeks, was given by po 1 week after the click operation. The ratio of aorta wet weight to body weight was calculated; the collagen content was measured with Woessner's method and the activity of matrix metallproteinase 2 was analyzed with zymography. RESULTS: In cardiac overloaded rats, the wet weight and collagen content of aorta was increased, and the activity of matrix metallproteinse 2 of aorta was decreased. Compared with the cardiac overloaded rats without any drugs, the increased weight and collagen content of aorta was reversed, but the activity of matrix metallproteinse 2 of aorta was seldom changed in curcumin treated rats. CONCLUSION: Curcumin can reverse the hypertrophy of aorta of cardiac overloaded rats mainly by means of inhibiting the synthesis of collagen.
3.Role of suppressor of cytokine signaling in the regulation of negative feedback in the JAK/STAT signaling pathway
Journal of Medical Postgraduates 2003;0(03):-
Suppressors of cytokine signaling (SOCS) associates with receptor-mediated signal transduction pathway, which can regulate cell proliferation, growth, differentiation and inflammation et al. The aim of this review is to identify SOCS and cytokines on the combination of different sites and pathway, and then to explore the pathogenesis of the role of negative feedback regulation of JAK/STAT signaling pathway.

OBJECTIVE:To observe the efficacy of telmisartan combined with metoprolol in the treatment of chronic heart failure.METHODS:102 patients with chronic heart failure admitted in hospital from Jan.2008 to Feb.2010 were given therapy of cardiotonic,diuresis,vasodilator,anti-infection,blood sugar control. Then patients were additionally treated with telmisartan and metoprolol. The parameters before treatment and after 2 weeks of treatment were determined such as heart function,24 h dynamic electrocardiogram,Bultrasound of heart, blood pressure, heart rate,6 min walking distance, liver and kidney function, electrolytes, blood sugar, urine routine, myocardial enzyme.RESULTS:After treatment, cardiac function, heart rate and 6 min walking distance, left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF),the number of premature beats were significantly reduced(P

PurposeTo exploit the relationship between the history of abortion and the infection of viral hepatitis C in the pregnant women.MethodsRisk factors for hepatitis C virus(HCV) infection were analyzed by Chi-square and a multiple logistic regression analysis in 2 783 pregnant women from Shanghai Punan hospital in 1995- 1998.ResultsThe results showed that the following factors associated significandy with anti-HCV seropositive rate:number of abortion,anti-HCV positive of spouse. In the logistic regression analysis the prevalence rate of HCV in pregnant women who were laid-off their work was 7.37 %, which was higher than that of other occupational pregnant women. There was no relationship between the HCV infection and age, marital status, history of injection, operation, hospitalization and the drug abuse.ConclusionsAbortion is a risk factor of HCV infection in pregnant women. The positive rate of anti-HCV is increased with the number of abortion. Strengthening thesterilization and disinfection of instruments during the abortion operation is necessary.

Objective To observe the curative effect of modified Yiweitang on anorexia of the Spleen and Stomach Yin deficient type. Methods90 patients with anorexia belonging to spleen yin deficiency type were randomized in to 2 groups, by 1: 1 ratio. According to the age of children, appropriate dose of modified Yiwei decoction (treatment group) and Erbao Granule (control group), 3 times/d, for 4 weeks were given to the children. Clinical efficacy of the treatment group was observed before and after the treatment and compared with the control group. Results(①) symptom scores: Vomiting (0.061±0.024), sweating (0.140±0.004), stool (0.024±0.011), urine (0.026±0.010) in treatment group after treatment, showing statistical significance (P<0.05) with the control group. ② disease treatment: The total effective rate was 93.3% and 91.1% in the treatment group and the control group, the difference was not statistically significant (X2=0.886, P>0.05). ③symptoms treatment: The total effective rate was 95.6% and 66.7% in the treatment group and the control group respectively, the difference was statistically significant (x2=0.625, P<0.05). Conclusion The treatment of modified Yiweitang was better than Erbao Granule in treating children with anorexia belonging to stomach yin deficiency.

AIM: To study the effect of propolis on the expression of CD54 and activation of NF-?B p65 in lung tissue of acute lung injury (ALI) rats. METHODS: 40 male Wistar rats were divided into 5 groups: normal control, model control, dectancyl group, water soluble derivative of propolis (WSP) group and ethanol extracted propolis (EEP) group. ALI animal model was performed by oleic acid and LPS twice attack. The pathologic slice was observed with light microscope and the NF-?B p65 activity and CD54 expression were tested by immunohistochemistry (SABC and SP). RESULTS: Both EEP and WSP antagonized the lung edema, decreased the inflammation and inhibited the expression of CD54 and activation of NF-?B p65. CONCLUSION: The increase in the expression of CD54 and the activation of NF-?B p65 in the lung tissues of ALI were involved in the formation of ALI. Propolis ameliorated the lung damage, which maybe related to the inhibition of CD54 expression and NF-?B p65 activation.

AIM: To compare the evaluations for the structure and function of the hypertrophic hearts induced by volume overload or pressure overload in rats. METHODS: Volume overload-induced cardiac hypertrophy was established by abdominal aortacaval fistula (ACF) and pressure overload-induced cardiac hypertrophy was developed by constriction of aorta (CA). The cardiac structure and function were analyzed by echocardiography, hemodynamic determination, heart weight measurement and histological examination. RESULTS: Heart weight of rats in all the operated groups was increased compared to the sham-operated groups. In 1-week ACF group, the internal diameter (0.67?0.03)cm vs (0.60?0.02)cm, P

Objective: To investigate the anti-inflammatory effect and the possible mechanism of water and ethanol extracts of propolis. Method: Forty male Wistar rats were divided into 5 groups: normal group, model group, medicine groups, two groups treated with water and ethanol extracts of propolis. The acute pleurisy model was established by injecting carrageenan. The effects of propolis on acute pleurisy was studied by counting leukocytes, measuring the content of MDA, lysozyme and activity of SOD in serum and the content of NO, protein and PGE2 in pleural effusion. Results: The propolis solutions extracted by water and ethanol presented obvious effect on inflammation. It could antagonize the purulent pleurisy, reduce the number of leukocytes and the content of MDA, lysozyme and activity of SOD in serum and the contents of NO, protein and PGE2 and decrease the inflammation. Conclusion: Propolis displays anti-inflammatory effects by decreasing the action of NO and PGE2 and preventing the activation of protein kinase.
