Journal of Acupuncture and Tuina Science 2006;4(1):47-49
Objective: To investigate if acupuncture can improve the curative effect of Western medicine on chronic prostatitis(CP). Methods: One hundred and ten patients with chronic prostatitis were randomly allocated to a treatment group of 80 cases and a control group of 30 cases. The clinical effects were evaluated according to cultures of bacteria in early-stream urine, midstream urine, prostate secretion(EPS) and after-massage urine(VB3). Results: Both the cure rate and the total efficacy rate were higher in the treatment group than in the control group(43/80 vs 10/30,P< 0.01; 75/80 vs 25/30, P< 0.05). In the treatment group there was no significant difference in curative effect between bacterial CP and nonbacterial CP(P > 0.05). In the control group the curative effect on bacterial CP was significantly superior to that on nonbacterial CP. Conclusion: Treatment with combined acupuncture and medicine is a good therapy for nonbacterial CP.

Objective:To investigate the protective effects of quercetin on the periodontal tissue in Wistar rats with periodontitis. Methods:30 Wistar rats were randomly divided into 3 groups(n =1 0):Control group (group N),ligation group(group L)and liga-tion +quercetin group(group LQ).Bilateral first molars of the rats in group L and LQ were cervically ligated by an orthodontic wire with the diameter of 0.2 mm.The rats in group LQ were then treated with quercetin by gavage at 50 mg/(kg·d)after ligation. After 8 weeks, the rats were killed.Continuous slices of the periodontal tissue were made for HE staining and immunohistochemistry stai-ning.The morphological changes and the expression of TNF-αand COX-2 in the periodontal tissue were observed under light micro-scope.Results:The inflammatory cells and periodontal pocket were observed in group LQ were less than those in group L.The levels of TNF-α,COX-2 in group LQ were lower than that those in the group L(P <0.05).Conclusion:Quercetin has a protective effect on the periodontal tissues of Wistar rats with periodontitis.

Medical ethics is the standard ofbehavior toadjust the relationship between medical personnel and patients, medical personnel, medical personnel and society. It is a general social morality in medical field in special performance.Teachers should carry through the ethics education to the end, making students smoothly enter society from the school, cultivating good ethics during the process of learning basic knowledge of oral cavity, and developing high-quality oral physicians for our country.

Objective To explore the relationship between SNPs in microRNA binding sites of ABCG5/8 and the glucolipid level during pregnancy. Methods 1 925 pregnant women were recruited at Peking Union Medical College hospital from 2006 to 2011.The clinical data were collected and the total genomic DNA was extracted from whole blood samples.ABCG5/8, which was reported to be related with the glucose and lipid metabolism closely, were selected as the candidate gene and the SNPs in its microRNA binding sites with minor allele frequency >5% in Han Chinese in Beijing were chosen. Then the genotyping was performed and analyzed. Results There was only one SNP matching the criteria, rs2278356, and it is significantly associated with LDL-C and TC level during pregnancy (LDL-C: b=0.104 mmol/L, 95% CI 0.023-0.185 mmol/L, P<0.05;TC: b=0.105 mmol/L, 95% CI 0.080-0.203 mmol/L, P<0.05).Conclusions The association of rs2278356 in 3′UTR of ABCG5/8 with LDL-C and TC level in pregnant Chinese Han women is found, which may provide an individualized treatment strategy for pregnant women with high cholesterol.

Objective:To observe the effects of Er ∶YAG(erbium:yttrium-aluminum-garnet) laser combined with diode laser in the treatment of chronic periodontitis.Methods:30 patients with chronic periodontitis patients were treated by mechanical scaling and root planning(SRP),pure Er ∶ YAG laser(ERT),diode + Er ∶ YAG + diode laser therapy(TPT) respectively. In the treatment VAS pain score was recorded.Probing deepth (PD),clinical attachment level (CAL) and bleeding on probing (BOP) were examined,IL-1 β,TNF-α and b-FGF in GCF,Porphyromonas gingivalis(Pg) in subgingiva plaqure were measured before and after treatment.Data were analyzed by SPSS 21.0 software.Results:6 weeks,12 weeks after treatment PD,BOP and CAL in TPT group were lower than those in ERT and SRP groups(P <0.05),TGF-β and b-FGF in TPT group were higher,IL-1β and TNF-α were lower than those in ERT and SRP groups (P < 0.05).The content of Pg relative to total bacteria in TPT group were lower than that in ERT and SRP groups (P < 0.05),VAS value in twinlight laser group was significantly lower than hand instruments group(P < 0.05).Conclusion:The twinlight laser is effective in the treatment of periodontitis.
