Objective To explore the value of two dimensional and color Doppler flow imaging(2D CDFI)for the diagnosis and differentiation of the carotid body tumor. Methods Retrospective analysis was made on 12 patients with carotid body tumor examined by 2D CDFI,and differentiations were conducted between several similar diseases. All the cases were confirmed by surgical pathology. Results The carotid body tumor in 2D CDFI was shown as follows: Low echoic substantial masses were found in the carotid branch with clearly boundary, and or partly outline. Most in small size were located at the branch of common carotid artery,so the interval between external and internal carotid arteries was enlarged. The masses in big size always grew around common cartid artery internal carotid artery and external carotid artery.More color flow signals were detected in the masses, and most were artery flow. The relationship between the mass and the carotid was shown clearly by 2D CDFI.Conclusions 2D CDFI is a valuable and practical method in diagnosis of carotid body tumors.

BACKGROUND: Comparing with diabetic nephropathy and diabetic retinopathy, diabetic cardiomyopathy is put forward exceeded later and the research about it was not enough. It is difficult to detect diabetic cardiomyopathy in the earlier period so that it has usually been neglected.OBJECTIVE: To evaluate features of dysfunction of left ventricle in early diabetic cardiomyopathy by Doppler tissue imaging.DESIGN: Completely randomized and controlled experiment.SETTING: Ultrasound Department of General Hospital of Chengdu Military Area Command of Chinese PLA.MATERIALS: The experiment was carried out at Ultrasound Department of General Hospital of Chengdu Military Area Command of Chinese PLA from March to June 2002. Totally 56 New Zealand rabbits of either gender were selected.METHODS: ① Ten New Zealand rabbits was pulled out randomly from 56 as control group. The rest of 46 New Zealand rabbits were replicated diabetes mellitus by Streptozotocin (STZ), rabbits were absolute diet 18 hours and injected intravenously to ear marginal vein with 65 mg/kg of STZ. Then these rabbits were randomly divided into 4 groups as 2, 4, 6, 8th experimental group, with 10 rabbits in each group. ② Digit ultrasonic cardiogram equipment was used to examined interventricular motion of mitral annulus at 2nd,4th, 6th and 8th week in model groups and comparison group. The parameters such as systolic peak velocity (Sa), preejection period (PEP), local ejection time (ET), systolic mean velocity (Vm) of four various portions in mitral annulus and diastole early period velocity (Ea), diastole later period velocity (Aa), Ea/Aa were determined. ③ SPSS 11.0 was used for statistical analysis,one-factor analysis was adopted to compare difference of groups.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: The motion of lateral wall and posterior interventricular septum at mitral annulus were estimated by PW-DTI.RESULTS: Among 56 rabbits, 50 entered the final analysis and other 6 were lost because of failure modeling. Diastole dysfunction of left ventricle was discovered in STZ-inducod diabetic rabbits detected by tissue Doppler imaging at the 4th week. It showed that not only the tite of early period of diastole peak velocity (Ea) in mitral ring lateral wall and post-interval of left ventricle was reduced, but also the tite of Ea/Aa was reduced notably (P < 0.05). Systolic dysfunction of left ventricle was discovered in STZ-in-duced diabetic rabbits detected by tissue Doppler imaging at the 6th week.It showed that local contraction peak velocity (Sa) of lateral wall and postseptum of mitral ring was decreased strikingly (P < 0.05). Mean systole velocity of four various parts of mitral ring (Vm) was reduced at the 6th week (P < 0.05). Pre-ejection period time (PEP) at post-septum and ejection time (ET) was elongated at lateral wall at the 8th week (P < 0.05).CONCLUSION: ① Diastolic dysfunction of left ventricle is characterized by decrease of early period of diastole peak velocity and the tite of Ea/Aa.② Systolic dysfunction of diabetic cardiomyopathy is characterized by decrease of local contraction peak velocity and elongation of pre-ejection period time and ejection time.

Objective To assess the diagnostic value of contrast enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) in liver metastases. Methods Thirty-six patients were examined with conventional ultrasonography, then underwent continuous real-time CEUS with low mechanical index. The size, location, number and perfusion patterns of liver metastases were evaluated. Results In 36 patients, 67 liver metastases were found with conventional ultrasound and 106 liver metastasis were found with CEUS. The perfusion patterns of lesions were in four types: ①Thirty-seven lesions (34.91%) showed as total enhancement during the early arterial phase and hypoechoic appearance during the portal venous phase and the late phase;②Fifty-six lesions (52.83%) showed a peripheral rim-like hyperechonic enhancement during the arterial phase and fast wash-out in the portal phase;③Twelve lesions (11.32%) showed as isoechoic enhancement during the arterial phase and the portal phase and was hypoechoic in the late phase;④One lesion (0.94%) showed hypoechoic appearance during all phases. The dimension of the lesions played an important role in the perfusion patterns. Conclusion The enhancement pattern and time of lesions are closely correlated with the tumor arterial supply. CEUS has high value in diagnosing liver metastases.

BACKGROUND:Studies have found that activation of nuclear factor-erythroid 2-related factor 2/heme oxidase-1(Nrf2/HO-1)pathway can alleviate oxidative stress caused by cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury, but whether human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(hBMSC)can activate Nrf2/HO-1 pathway to alleviate cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury is still lacking relevant studies. OBJECTIVE:To investigate whether intracranial transplantation of hBMSC alleviates oxidative stress injury in cerebral ischemia-reperfusion animal models by activating Nrf2/HO-1 pathway. METHODS:Totally 40 male SPF SD rats were randomly divided into sham operation group, model group,hBMSC transplantation group,hBMSC+solvent group and hBMSC+Nrf2 inhibitor group. Each group consisted of eight animals. In the model group and the hBMSC transplantation group, middle cerebral artery occlusion model was prepared by thread embolization method. The thread embolization was removed 1 hour later, and 30 μL PBS or hBMSC cultured to at least passage 5 was injected into the right cortex and striatum of rats.In the hBMSC+Nrf2 inhibitor group and hBMSC+solvent group, the left ventricle was injected with Nrf2 inhibitor Brusatol and its solvent dimethyl sulfoxide respectively 24 hours before model establishment, then the middle cerebral artery occlusion model was prepared, and hBMSC was injected.Relevant indexes were detected 3 days after transplantation. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:(1)CT and TTC staining showed the same area and volume of cerebral infarction:model group>hBMSC+Nrf2 inhibitor group>hBMSC+solvent group>hBMSC transplantation group>sham operation group.(2)Hematoxylin-eosin staining and Nissl's staining showed that the ischemic brain tissue was intact and the neurons were normal in the sham operation group.Compared with the model group, the pathological morphology and neuronal injury of the hBMSC transplantation group and the hBMSC+solvent group were significantly improved.Compared with the hBMSC+solvent group, the hBMSC+Nrf2 inhibitor group had more serious pathological morphology and neuronal damage.(3)Western blot assay and oxidative stress index detection results showed that compared with the sham operation group,Nrf2 and HO-1 proteins were decreased(all P<0.05),malondialdehyde was increased and superoxide dismutase was decreased(all P<0.05)in the model group.Compared with the model group, the expression levels of Nrf2 and HO-1 proteins were increased(all P<0.05),malondialdehyde was decreased and superoxide dismutase was increased(all P<0.05)in the hBMSC transplantation group and the hBMSC+solvent group.Compared with the hBMSC+solvent group, the expression levels of Nrf2 and HO-1 proteins were simultaneously decreased(all P<0.05),and malondialdehyde was increased and superoxide dismutase was decreased(all P<0.05)in the hBMSC+Nrf2 inhibitor group.(4)These results indicate that hBMSC can alleviate cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury possibly by activating Nrf2/HO-1 pathway.

Objective:
To investigate the trueness and precision of routine clinical biochemistry tests in the third-grade class-A hospitals of Chongqing city.
Methods:
The fresh frozen serum samples were assigned the target values with reference methods, and then allocated to the clinical laboratories of the third-grade class-A hospitals in Chongqing city for testing. The trueness and precision were analyzed and evaluated.
Results:
The pass rates of trueness of creatinine (Cr), total protein (TP), total bilirubin (T-Bil), uric acid (UA) and glucose (Glu) in 33 clinical laboratories were below 50%. The pass rate of trueness of UA (33%) in the closed detection system was lower than that in the opening detection system (79%, P=0.033). In the opening detection system, the pass rate of trueness of Cr in the mode with the same brand of reagents and calibration materials was higher than that with different brands (P=0.014). The precisions of level 1 of T-Bil and Urea in the closed detection system were better than that in the opening detection system (P=0.043 for T-Bil; P=0.031 for Urea).
Conclusion
The trueness of clinical biochemistry tests in the third-grade class-A hospitals of Chongqing city needs to be further improved. There is no significant difference in trueness and precision between the opening detection system and the closed detection system, even the performance of some tests in the opening detection system is better than that in the closed detection system.
