This paper reports that the protective effects of SOD on the experimental gastric ulcers in the mice and erythrocyte membranes, as well as the 125I-SOD traced examination to be studied. The radioactive 125I labelling SOD is using by Iodogen solid phase method. The results of traced examination demonstrated that 125I-SOD could be absorbed into the blood rapidly,and distributed to various organs. The renal radioactivity is highest. The radioactivity in erythrocytes (peak phase) has been accounting for 18. 2% in the whole blood. The radioactivity of bound form in the plasma is only accounted for 12. 5%. It shows that the 125I-SOD was mostly degradation and deiodination. The action of theexogenous O2 free radicals on the erythrocytes showed that the SOD have been markedly inhibited the peroxide damage of O2on the erythrocyte membranes, which inhibitory effect was increased with the concentration of the SOD raised. The effect of SOD on the IM-HCI induced the gastric ulcers, an inhibitory and protective action occur too. In the group of SOD treatment, the gastric mucosal membranes lipid peroxidation was inhibited and the pathological changes remited.

Anti- inflmmatory effects of ferulofen(FL)and its mechanisms were studied. In the rat carrageenin pleurisy, FL produced a dose-related reduction of exudate volume, protein contents and leucocyte numbers in the exudate. FL also reduced activity of ?-glucuronidase in the exudate only in higher dose 3 h after carrageenin. These results suggest that FL has a marked anti-inflammatory action and its mechanisms may be similar to indomethacin. Ia vitro, FL caused a dose-dependent inhibition of hydrogen peroxide release from rat peritioneal macrophages ( M0 ) stimulated by opsonized zymosan. It suggested that its anti-inflammatory mechanisms may also relate to inhibitting cell activation. ?-receptor agonist ( Isoproterenol, ISO), in a ineffective dose, synergized with FL in inhibitting M H2O2 release and the synergic mechanism remains to be established.

Objective To understand the infection sources, care seeking behaviour and STD prevention in STD clinic patients. Methods Four hundred and seventy four patients of 3 STD clinics in Shanghai were investigated with questionaires and interviewed. Results 94.1% respondents contracted STDs via sexual contact. 70.3% married females attributed their infection source to their husbands, while more than 80% males and unmarried patients were infected through casual or commercial sex partners. High risk populations were observed among salesclerks, hotel attendants, private businessmen and unemployed, who were liable to contract STD through extramarital sexual contact and had a low rate of condom use. 74.5% of patients who visited the clinics after their symptoms had appeared. 82.7%, 62.2%, 57.1% and 30.0% of patients, whose sex partners were their spouses, lovers, commercial sex workers and casual partners, respectively, promised to encourage their partners for STD check up. Although the care seeking behaviour among females was slightly more active than that among males, postponed treatment seeking behaviour, low rate of simultaneous treatment of both male and female partners and low rate of condom use were observed among total patients. Majority of patients practised unprotected sexual intercourse, 4.2% used condom in commercial sexual activities, only 9.7% used condom even after having contracted the present STDs. Conclusion It is implied that counselling and health education must be strengthened in STD clinics, aiming at improving the awareness of STD prevention, insistently and correctly using condom, carefully choosing sex partners and reducing the number of sex partners, and encouraging the patients to adopt healthier life style.

The development of hearing of Kunming strain mouse was studied using evoked auditory nerve action potential (AP). The result showed that the onset of hearing was present during P10( tenth postnatal day) to P14. The thresholds of AP - N1 wave declined gradualy with the growth of the mouse. The auditory thresholds declined dramatically in the period from P10 to P20 and it indicated that the development of hearing was more rapid in this period. The thresholds, amplitudes and latencies of AP - N1 wave attained adult values by P40. The result showed that it took about one month for Kunming strain mouse to attain hearing maturation. The study on the development of hearing in normal mouse may serve as an important reference when studying degenerative lesions of the inner ear and the regeneration of cochlear hair cells.

Objective To evaluate the effect of conformal radiotherapy for elderly patients with adva nced non-small-cell lung cancer. Methods From November 1998 to June 2001, 24 elderly patients with advanced non-small -cell lung cancer were treated with conformal radiotherapy. ResultsOne-year, two-year and three-year overall survival rate for the entire group are 91 67%, 54 16%, 43 33%. No patients developed acute radiation pneumonitis . According to the univariate analysis, significant prognostic factors included superior vena cava syndrome, Karnofsky performance status scores and gross tumo r volume. Conclusions Conformal radiotherapy improve the effect in elderly patients with advanced no n-small-cell lung cancer.

OBJECTIVE To study the relationship between potassium channel and ADAR1 in Hep-2 cell line. METHODS The potassium current was recorded by the whole-cell recording technique of perforated membrane clamp. Using semi-quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) , the expressions of ADAR1 mRNA in the Hep-2cell line were detected. RESULTS The similar membrane current was observed when cells were held at -40 mV and test potentials ranged from -80 mV to +80 mV. The current exhibited properties of voltage-dependent, outward rectification. It exhibited complete activation after alatency of 25ms and no or little inactivation over the 800ms voltage pulse. It could be blocked by potassium channel blockers TEA. The relative intensities of ADAR1 mRNA of t he Hep-2 cell line were different before and after its potassium channel was blocked. CONCLUSION Delayed rectifier potassium channel exist in human laryngeal carcinoma cell line Hep-2.The potassium channel is voltage-dependent. There is a correlation between the potassium channel and ADAR1 mRNA in Hep-2 cell line.

OBJECTIVE To study the effect of blocking chloride channel on the proliferation and apoptosis of Hep-2 cell line.METHODS Hep-2 cell line was used as a target,The effect of chloride channel blocker(NPPB)on the proliferation of Hep-2 cell line was evaluated by MTT assay.Flow cytometry was performed to measure the apoptosis index of selected Hep-2 cell clones.RESULTS Inhibition of the proliferation of Hep-2 cells depended on the dose of chloride channel blocker(NPPB).The apoptosis index of Hep-2 cells was remarkably different before and after its chloride channel was blocked. CONCLUSION Normal expression and function of chloride channel is essential for the maintenance of proper cell growth.Our results suggest that blocking the chloride channel could inhibit the proliferation and induce apoptosis of Hep-2 cell line.

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of sodium valproate (VPA) on proliferation and apoptosis of human laryngeal carcinoma Hep-2 cells and its associated mechanism. METHOD: Methabenzthiazuron (MTT) was used to observe the proliferation of human laryngeal carcinoma Hep-2 cells treated with various concentrations of VPA at different times. Flow cytometry(FCM) and RT-PCR were used to measure the apoptosis rate and the expression of Survivin mRNA in the Hep-2 cells treated with VPA at 3 mmol/L for different times. RESULT: VPA inhibited growth of Hep-2 cells in a dose-dependent and time-dependent manner (P < 0.01). The apoptosis rate increased after the treatment by VPA at 3 mmol/L. There were significant differences between different time groups (P < 0.01). The expression of Survivin mRNA of Hep-2 cells were decreased in a time dependent manner (3 mmol/L) (P < 0.01). CONCLUSION VPA have obvious growth inhibition and induction of apoptosis on human laryngeal cancer Hep-2 cells, its mechanism is related to decrease the expression of Survivin.

Objective To compare the dissolution of Chuangxiong powder in different medium and discuss the dissolution characteristics in vitro of Changxiong powder. Methods The paddle method was adopted, the UV spectrophotometric method was developed to determine the in vitro dissolution quantity of Changxiong powder in five medium (water, 0.1 mol/L hydrochloric acid, acetate buffer of pH 4.5, phosphate buffer of pH 6.8, phosphate buffer of pH 7.4) with ferulic acid as index, and evaluated by drawing the dissolution curve and using the similar factor method and Weibull model. Results The dissolution quantity of Changxiong oral powder in five medium was different. The dissolution quantity in water, 0.1 mol/L hydrochloric acid, acetate buffer of pH 4.5 and phosphate buffer of pH 6.8 was similar and fit Weibull model, but it mutated in phosphate buffer of pH 7.4 and reached the maximum amount at 30 min. Conclusion The dissolution quantity of Changxiong powder is gradually increasing and the time is shorted in the medium from acidic to neutral then to alkaline. Dissolution curve is similar in the acidic and neutral medium. Changxiong powder dissolves out fast and completely in the alkaline medium.
