Objective To evaluate the clinical effect of non-penetrating trabecular surgery (NPIS) without subscleral implantation in primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) Methods Twenty eyes of 16 patients with POAG were underwent NPTS The procedure involved excising a deep-scler- sclera tissue that flush with innerwall of Schlemm's canal without opening the anterior chamber. The postoperative intraocular pressure (IOP), inflammation and filtering bleb were analysised. All of patients were undertaken ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM ) to evaluate the surgery site on postoperative 2 weeks and 3 months. Mean follow-up was (4. Z? 2. 4) months. Results The IOP decreased from preoperative average value of (3.78? 1. 11 ) kPa, to postoperative average value of (2. 08? 0. 51 ) kPa (P

OBJECTIVE: To observe the inhibiting effect of Interferon-alpha 1b(IFNa-1b) on proliferation of human tenon capsule fibroblasts. METHODS: Human tenon capsule fibroblasts were cultured in vitro and MTT method was used to detect the inhibiting effect of IFNa-1b on human tenon capsule fibroblasts. RESULTS: There was significant difference in OD values between 10~6IU/ml group(0. 1 109?0. 0 585) and control group(0.2535?0. 0502), the inhibition rate in IFN group was 56.25%. CONCLUSION: IFNa-1b has significant effect on inhibiting proliferation of human tenon capsule fibroblasts.

ObjectiveTo determined the outcome of modified trabeculecotomy (with paracentesis, mitomycin C,scleral flap adjustable suture and formation of anterior chamber at the end of the surgery)in the management of primary acute angle-closure (PAAC) with high intraocular pressure (IOP) and extremely dilated pupil. MethodsTwenty-one eyes of 21 successive cases with PAAC with high lOP(IOP > 30mmHg) and large pupil (maximum vertical diameter > 5 mm) were evaluated prospectively. They underwent modified trabeculecotomy between January 2005 and March 2009.The operative success was defined as IOP ≤ 20 mmHg (± medical therapy) without the necessity of further surgery for glaucoma. ResultsSuccess was achieved in all of the eyes(100%)at the postoperative first week. The mean preoperative IOP was (48.25 ± 3.14) mmHg under a mean number of 3.35 antiglaucomotous medications, but it reduced to (10.47 ± 1.15,P < 0.01) mmHg without medication at the first week, (13.86 ± 0.93,P < 0.01) mmHg at postoperative 3rd month respectively.Only 1 eye needed 1 kind of antiglaucomotous eye drop from the 2nd month postoperatively. The mean vertical diameter of pupils was (5.81±0.23) mm preoperatively, (5.92 ±0.21 ) mm at the first week(P > 0.05). No case received section iridectomy. No serious complication was observed.ConclusionsModified trabeculectomy provides reduction of IOP and protection of pupil in cases with PAAC with high IOP and large pupil, and the procedures such as releasing aqueous humor gradually, appliance of scleral flap adjustable sutures and formation of anterior chamber at the end of the surgery can effectively reduce the risk of serious complications.

OBJECTIVE:To study the effect of dexamethasone (Dex) on expression of aquaporin-1(AQP1) in cultured human trabecular meshwork(HTM) cells METHODS:Reverse transcription combined with polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR) was used to detect the expression of AQP1 in cultured HTM cells and those treated by Dex RESULTS:The mRNA of AQP1 expressed in normal HTM cells was 1 643?0 354,while 1 577?0 405,1 117?0 443,0 458?0 301,0 267?0 243 in those treated with Dex for 3 days in concentrations of 10-8mol,5?10-8 mol,10-7 mol,5?10-7mol As the concentrations of Dex increased to≥5?10-8mol,the expression of AQP1 was inhibited(P

Aim Toinvestigatetheeffectofrecombi-nant snake venom metalloproteinase inhibitor (rSVM-PI ) on neovascularization and its molecular mecha-nism.Methods Chickenchorioallantoicmembrane (CAM)assay was used to examine the antiangiogenic effect of rSVMPI.Alamar blue analysis was used to de-tect cell proliferation.Annexin V-FITC double labeling flow cytometry was used to assay cell apoptosis. Scratch marker was used to assay cell migration.Boy-den chamber analysis method was used to detect cells chemotaxis in vitro.Tube like structure(TLS)of HU-VECs was used to detect the ability of neovasculariza-tion in vitro.Real-time PCR and Western blot were used to assay the expressions of KDR and FGFR-1 inHUVECs. Results Thevasculardensityindex (VDI)of CAM was drastically decreased after rSVMPI treatment, chemotaxis of HUVECs in response of VEGF was inhibited in the presence of rSVMPI,TLS of HUVECs was less than control group. The expres-sions of KDR and FGFR-1 were down-regulated by re-al-timePCRandWesternblotassay.Conclusion rS-VMPI may inhibit neovascularization by blocking the VEGF-KDR or bFGF-FGFR signal transduction path-way.

Objective To examine the clinical effect of phacoemulsification with foldable posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation (PC-IOL) in management of angle-closure glaucoma (ACG) with cataract. Methods Phacoemulsification with foldable PC-IOL implantation was performed in 31 eyes with ACG. The best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), intraocular pressure (IOP), anterior chamber depth (ACD) and anteior chamber angle width were measured and recorded preoperatively, 1 day, 1 week, 1 month and 3 months postoperatively. Results The mean IOP decreased significantly after surgery (P

Objective:To explore the effect of flipped classroom combined with scenario simulation in the teaching reform on four basic medical puncture techniques of clinical skills training. Methods:A total of 1 275 students majoring in five-year clinical medicine in Guangzhou Medical University were enrolled in the study. The control group (647 cases from Batch 2015) were given the traditional teaching pattern and the experimental group (628 cases from Batch 2016) adopted flipped classroom combined with scenario simulation. At the end of the course, the performance in the tests of four basic medical puncture techniques in the objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) of the two groups were compared. The feedback and evaluation of this teaching mode in the experimental group were investigated by questionnaires. SPSS 19.0 was used for independent samples t test. Results:All the scores of the tests of four basic medical puncture techniques in the experimental group were significantly higher than those in the control group: abdominocentesis [(87.89±7.13) vs. (82.60±10.74) points], thoracocentesis [(85.20±7.39) vs. (81.96±7.76) points], bone marrow aspiration [(88.13±6.00) vs. (83.50±9.63) points], and lumbar puncture [(91.91±7.19) vs. (80.74±12.20) points], with significant differences ( P<0.001). The results about the feedback and evaluation in the experimental group showed that the students gave an average score of 8.4 points to their satisfaction with the new teaching mode. The approval rates of the teaching effect evaluation items such as teaching arrangement, improving learning ability, improving clinical practice ability and school promotion were higher than 90.0%. Conclusion:Flipped classroom combined with scenario simulation, which is worthy to be popularized, can not only improve the students' performance in the tests of four basic medical puncture techniques in the OCSE, but also improve teaching satisfaction and teaching effect.

Although different types of drugs are available for postmenopausal osteoporosis, the limitations of the current therapies including drug resistances and adverse effects require identification of novel anti-osteoporosis agents. Here, we defined that norlichexanthone (NOR), a natural product, is a ligand of estrogen receptor-alpha (ER
