Objective To evaluate the value of transcatheter arterial embolization(TAE) in the treatment of intractable epistaxis. Methods TAE using gelform or polyvinyl alcohol(PVA) particles of forty-one patients with intractable epistaxis were undertaken by the femoral artery approach, through selective catheterization of involved maxillary artery or the bleeding arteries for the stopage of bleeding..Results Of the forty-one patient,39 cases were cured by once TAE and the other 2 with recurrent bleeding on the next day after the TAE,to whom a second interventional treatment fullfilled the requirement. Conclusions Transcatheter arterial embolization is a simple, safe and effective treatment for the intractable epistaxis.

Objective To investigate the impact of nutritional risk of preoperative patients with different parts of colorectal cancer. Methods 385 cases of surgical patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer were selected in the retrospective study in April 2008 to March 2009, Gastrointestinal Surgery Center of West China Hospital in Sichuan University. Patients were divided into the right colon cancer group, the left colon cancer group, the rectal cancer group, using internationally recognized NRS- 2002 Scale and serum nutrition indicators to assess their preoperative nutrition. Results NRS-2002 score in the right colon cancer group showed higher than the left colon and rectal cancer group, but no statistical difference between the latter two rates; serum concentrations of HGB, TP, ALB, A/G were lower in the right colon cancer group than the other two groups, but the concentrations of ALT, AST, Ca2+, PO43-showed no statistical difference among three groups. Conclusions The proximal colon (right colon cancer) were more susceptible to the risk of preoperative malnutrition, the patients with different parts of colorectal cancer should be given to the corresponding preoperative nutritional assessment and nutritional support.

Objective To study the effect of TGF?β1 gene therapy on the rat model of postpartum stress urinary incontinence and explore a novel non?operative treatment of this disease. Methods Two hundred and forty 6?month old SD female rats were used to prepare the model of postpartum stress urinary incontinence by vaginal dilation with a water sac. 148 rats from the 185 successfully prepared model rats were selected, and randomly divided into 5 groups: the TGF?β1 gene therapy, clentuterol treatment, electric stimulation therapy, injection of empty vector plasmid, and non?treated groups. In addition, 20 normal rats were selected as blank control group. Sneeze test and urodynamic test were conducted, the pelvic floor pubococcygeus muscle contractile force/muscle weight ratio was calculated, serum TGF?1 was detected by ELISA, and TGF?1 protein was detected by immunohistochemistry at 1, 21, 42 and 63 days after the treatment. Results At 21 days after treatment, all the maximum bladder capacity, leak point pressure, and urine or contractile force / muscle weight ratio of the TGF?β1 gene therapy group showed even better effects than those of the electrical stimulation group, but the differences were statistically not significant ( P>0?05 ) . Conclusions TGF?β1 gene therapy shows good therapeutic effect on the rat models of postpartum stress urinary incontinence, suggesting that TGF?β1 gene therapy may become a new type of non?surgical treatment for this disease.

Objective To study the effect of IGF-1 gene therapy and electric stimulation therapy on the rat models of postpartum stress urinary incontinence, and explore the ideal treatment for this disease. Methods 240 SD female rats were used to establish the model of postpartum stress urinary incontinence by water sac vaginal dilation.148 model rats were randomly selected from 185 successful models and divided into 5 groups:IGF-1 gene therapy, clenbuterol treatment, electric stimulation therapy, injection of empty vector plasmid, and untreated groups.Besides, 20 non-modeled rats were used as blank control group.Urodynamic test was performed, pelvic floor pubococcygeus muscle/muscle weight ratio was calculated, and serum biochemical indices (LDH, CK) were detected, and the morphological changes of pubococcygeus muscle fibers were observed by light microscopy at 1, 21, 42 and 63 days after treatment. Results At 21 days after treat-ment, the maximum bladder capacity, leak point pressure, the contractile force/muscle weight ratio in the IGF-1 group and electric stimulation treatment group were significantly better (P>0.05), and the differences between the IGF-1 group and electric stimulation group were not significant ( P>0.05 ) .Conclusions The effect of IGF-1 gene therapy and electric stimulation on the rat models of postpartum stress urinary incontinence is better than that in the drug therapy group and oth-er groups.

Objective To explore the endovascular therapeutic strategy for multiple occlusive lesions of aorta and iliac-femoral arteries, and to discuss the technical skill as well as the clinical significance. Methods A total of 8 patients with multiple occlusive lesions of aorta and iliac-femoral arteries were enrolled in this study. Preoperative CT angiography and MR angiography were performed in all the 8 patients. The lesions included complete occlusion of abdominal aorta below renal artery level (n = 2), distal abdominal aorta occlusion (n = 4), distal abdominal aorta stenosis (n = 1), distal abdominal aorta membranous occlusion (n = 1), and diseased iliac artery (n = 12), external iliac artery (n = 8), femoral artery (n = 1) and popliteal artery (n = 2). Endovascular interventional management, including opening channel, thrombolysis, balloon dilation, stent implantation, etc. was carried out via different routes. The results were analyzed. Results After endovascular interventional management the abdominal aorta was completely reopened in all the 8 patients. Of 12 diseased iliac arteries, 9 were successfully reopened by interventional treatment and the remaining 3 were not treated. All the diseased external iliac arteries were opened up. The involved femoral artery and popliteal arteries were not treated. The patients were followed up for 1 -12 months. During the follow-up period, ischemic symptoms of the lower limb disappeared in 5 patients and were obviously improved in 2 patients. Recurrence of thrombotic occlusion was observed in one case, which returned to normal after transcatheter thrombolysis therapy. Conclusion For the treatment of multiple occlusive lesions of aorta and iliac-femoral arteries, endovascular interventional management is safe, simple and effective with fewer complications. The ischemic symptoms of the lower limb can be significantly improved.

Objective To investigate the relationship between cancer-related fatigue (CRF) and quality of life (QOL) of the colorectal cancer patients. Methods In this study, patients diagnosed definitely as colorectal cancer were enrolled from November 2010 to January 2011 in this hospital.Piper Fatigue Scale was used to assess the CRF and QLQ-C30 was used to assess the QOL.Results 74 patients were enrolled in this study, and among them 28 patients had CRF(37.84%).Patients with CRF was significantly worse in QOL than patients without CRF.Physical function, role function, emotional function, social function and the general health subscale had a negative correlation with CRF,while pain, fatigue and loss of appetite had a positive correlation with it.Conclusions CRF had an impact on QOL,and this study will provide some reference information when the nurses take measures to intervene CRF and improve QOL of the colorectal cancer patients.

Hemolymphangioma is a kind of deformity of the lymphatic vessel and venule, which is rarely seen in clinical practice.A 66-year-old female patient who had a chief complaint of distention in left upper quadrant of the abdomen for 6 months was admitted to the General Hospital of Chengdu Military Region of PLA.Examination of computed tomography and B ultrasound confirmed that the patient had a retroperitoneal cystic mass.During the exploratory laparotomy, the soft mass was found at the left upper quadrant of the abdomen and had invaded to the pancreas.Postoperative pathological examination confirmed that the mass was a pancreatic hemolymphangioma.
