Objective To observe the effectiveness of dexamethasone combined with azasetron for the prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting(PONV) in patients after laparoscopic cholecystectomy(LC).Methods A total of 150 ASA(Ⅰ~Ⅱ) patients undergoing an elective LC were randomly divided into three groups with 50 patients in each group: Group D+A was given intravenous dexamethasone 5mg and azasetron 10mg(2ml) at the end of surgery,Group A received intravenous azasetron 10mg(2ml) at the end of surgery,and Group C received normal saline(NS) 2 ml as the control.Episodes of nausea and vomiting were recorded for 24 h following the surgery.Results The incidence of nausea was 4% in the Group D+A(2/50),which was significantly lower than in the Group A(16%,8/50) and the Group C(34%,17/50)(?~2=4.00 and 14.62;P=0.046 and 0.000).The incidence of vomiting was 2% in the Group D+A(1/50),which was significantly lower than in the Group A (14%,(7/50)) and the Group C(32%,16/50)(?~2=4.89 and 15.95;P=0.027 and 0.000).The incidences of nausea and vomiting were significantly lower in the Group A than in the Group C(?~2=4.32 and 4.57;P=0.038 and 0.033).Conclusions Use of a low dose of dexamethasone in combination with azasetron is more effective than azasetron prophylaxis alone for a successful control of PONV after LC.

AIM:To investigate the effect of genistein on the proliferation of human oral cancer TCA 8113 cells and to explore the underlying mechanisms .METHODS:The cell proliferation was examined by MTT assay , cell counting and colony formation assay .Western blotting was employed to examine the protein levels of vascular endothelial growth fac -tor (VEGF), extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) and p-ERK.RESULTS: Genistein significantly inhibited the proliferation of TCA8113 cells in a concentration-dependent fashion .Moreover , genistein dose-dependently decreased the protein levels of VEGF, ERK and p-ERK.The expression of VEGF was also blunted by U 0126, a specific inhibitor of ERK.U0126 and axitinib, a VEGF receptor antagonist , both significantly inhibited the proliferation of TCA 8113 cells. CONCLUSION:Genistein inhibits the proliferation of TCA8113 cells, which may be related to its inhibitory effect on ERK expression and activation , thus subsequently decreasing the expression of VEGF .

Primary dysmenorrheal is one of the most common diseases in gynecology,which seriously affects the physical and men-tal health of women, therefore, the effective prevention and treatment of primary dysmenorrheal is a problem in medical field. The etiol-ogy of primary dysmenorrheal is very complicated, and in recent years, there are more and more domestic and foreign scholars studying on its pathogenesis and treatment. Modern medicine has some shortcomings in the treatment of dysmenorrheal including side effects and so on. Traditional Chinese medicine has unique advantages in the treatment of primary dysmenorrheal. Combined with the recent rele-vant reporters, the article reviewed the pathogenesis of primary dysmenorrheal from both traditional Chinese medicine and modern medi-cine aspects, and the research progress in traditional Chinese medicine treatment of primary dysmenorrheal was also reviewed to provide better guidance for the treatment of primary dysmenorrheal.

Objective To evaluate the performance of the third generation ELISA and the fourth generation ELISA for HIV-1 diagnosis assays on acute and early HIV-1 infected samples.Methods Sixtyseven acute/early HIV-1 infected samples were collected from the follow-up gays with seroconversion in Shen Yang city and from clinical patients in the First Affiliated Hospital of China Medical University with incomplete HIV-1 specific bands in western blot between 2008 and 2010.Third generation ELISA,fourth generation ELISA,western blot and HIV-1 viral load detecting were used for detecting these samples.The sensitivity,consistency were compared between third generation ELISA and fourth generation ELISA to detect the seroconversion samples and the window periods were abserved.Chi square test was used for statistical analysis.Results In the 67 acute/early HIV-1 infected samples,56 were HIV positive and 11 were HIV negative by the third generation ELISA.The sensitivity of the third generation ELISA was 83.6％ (95％ CI:72.5％ -91.5％); 63 were HIV positive,1 was at gray zone and 3 were HIV negative by the fourth generation ELISA.The sensitivity of the fourth generation ELISA was 94.0％ (95％ CI:85.4％ -98.3％),higher than the third generation ELISA(x2 =16.1,P ＜0.01).The consistency of the third generation ELISA and the fourth generation ELISA was 86.6％ ( 95％ CI:76.0％ - 93.7％).The earliest third generation ELISA positive sample was the sample collected 16 days after HIV infection and the earliest fourth generation ELISA positive sample was the sample collected 9 days after HIV infection.There was significantly different on the window periods between the third generation ELISA and the fourth generation ELLSA Conclusion The fourth generation ELISA had a higher sensitivity and shorter window period on acute/early HIV infected samples than the third generation ELISA,which is more suitable for the HIV early infection screening on high risk populations.

BACKGROUND:Due to limitations of the physicochemical properties of soft denture liner material itself, whisker has been added in the soft lining material in recent years, so as to enhance its mechanical properties. OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effect of different additive amount of anhydrous calcium sulfate whisker on the mechanical function of self-curing soft denture liner. METHODS: There were six groups in this experiment. Anhydrous calcium sulfate whisker at the mass fraction of 0 (control), 1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, 5% was respectively added into self-curing soft liner materials, 10 test specimens in each group, a total of 60 test specimens. The shear bond strength, Shore hardness and tensile strength were detected. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: With the increasing amount of the anhydrous calcium sulfate whisker, the Shore hardness of the soft lining material was increased continuously, and the tensile strength was increased firstly and then reduced. When 3% anhydrous calcium sulfate whisker was added, the bond strength and tensile strength of soft lining material reached the peak. Taken together, the mechanical properties of the soft lining materials became perfect when 3% anhydrous calcium sulfate whisker was added. These results demonstrate that anhydrous calcium sulfate whisker may affect the mechanical properties of self-curing soft liner.

Background: No currently available biomarkers or treatment regimens fully meet therapeutic needs of type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). Circular RNA (circRNA) is a recently identified class of stable noncoding RNA that have been documented as potential biomarkers for various diseases. Our objective was to identify and analyze plasma circRNAs altered in T1DM. Methods: We used microarray to screen differentially expressed plasma circRNAs in patients with new onset T1DM (n=3) and age-/gender-matched healthy controls (n=3). Then, we selected six candidates with highest fold-change and validated them by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction in independent human cohort samples (n=12). Bioinformatic tools were adopted to predict putative microRNAs (miRNAs) sponged by these validated circRNAs and their downstream messenger RNAs (mRNAs). Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway analyses were performed to gain further insights into T1DM pathogenesis. Results: We identified 68 differentially expressed circRNAs, with 61 and seven being up- and downregulated respectively. Four of the six selected candidates were successfully validated. Curations of their predicted interacting miRNAs revealed critical roles in inflammation and pathogenesis of autoimmune disorders. Functional relations were visualized by a circRNA-miRNA-mRNA network. GO and KEGG analyses identified multiple inflammation-related processes that could be potentially associated with T1DM pathogenesis, including cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction, inflammatory mediator regulation of transient receptor potential channels and leukocyte activation involved in immune response. Conclusion Our study report, for the first time, a profile of differentially expressed plasma circRNAs in new onset T1DM. Further in silico annotations and bioinformatics analyses supported future application of circRNAs as novel biomarkers of T1DM.
