Objective:to study cognitive impairment and social function of patients with Alzheimer disease (AD). Method:22 patients with AD and 12 with depression in elderly were followed for 3 months, both at the very beginning and the end of 3 months, they were tested with CASI (cognitive abilities screening instrument) and FAQ (functional activities questionnaire).Result:scores of short memory, attention, mathematics, abstract and association of CASI were significantly lower in AD group than that in depression group. AD patients had also poorer outcome in FAQ, such as in that of shopping, learn new things, and recall of engagement. Conclusion:Cognitive impairment and social function of patients with AD were poorer than elderly patients with depression.

Objective To evaluate the efficiency and safety of Percusurge guardwire distal protection system in coronary intervention in patients with acute myocardial infarction. Methods Three male patients with acute myocardial infarction were enrolled in the study. Primary angioplasty was performed for 2 of them, 2 and 7 hours after onset of the infarction symptom, respectively. Selective angioplasty was performed 17 days after infarction for the third case. Percusurge guardwire system was used during the procedure. Results Procedure success was achieved for all of the 3 cases. Lot of thrombus was sucked out. The infarct-related arteries had TIMI 3 flow at the end of the procedures. The patients′ symptoms were resolved soon after the procedure. Minor dissection was seen in one case which did not obstruct the distal flow and was left alone. Conclusion Percusurge guardwire system can be used safely and effectively in coronary intervention in the thrombus-laden arteries such as acute myocardial infarction.

Objective To approach the effect of fluoride on the expression of thyroid peroxidase(TPO)activity and TPO mRNA in primary porcine thyrocytes. Methods Purified cultured porcine thyrocytes waft made into sodium fluoride model, and were divided according to the final concentration of NaF into 0(control group),40,80,160 mg/L.After exposed to NaF for 48 h,the morphology of the porcine thyrocytes was investigated with acridine orange staining method,TPO activity was measured with upgrade guaiacol method and RT-PCR method was used to detect the ratio of TPO/β-actin.Results The major changes included apoptotic bodies and cell fragments in the 80,160 mg/L groups under phase contrast microscope. With the increasing dose of fluoride.TPO activity,being(3.103±0.090),(1.944±0.025),(1.361±0.008),(0.668±0.026)U/L,respectively,had obviously lowered with a statistical significance compared between the groups(F=1563.864,P<0.05).The TPO activity had a negative correlation with the dose of fluoride(r=-0.955,P<0.05).With the dose of fluoride increasing, the expression of TPO mRNA had obviously lowered,being(0.947±0.013),(0.634±0.018),(0.448±0.028)and (0.210±0.009)with a statistical significance in group comparison(F=2713.855,P<0.05).Conclusion Fluoride affects the thyroid via inhibiting TPO activity and expression of TPO mRNA.

Microbiology 1992;0(06):-
An immunopotentiating compound has been isolated from the metabolites of Bacillus mycoides under the bioassay-guided isolation and identification for its immunopotentiating effect and chemical structure. The isolation and purification of the compound were consisted of macroporous adsorptive resins, silicagel chromatographic column and Sephadex G-200 chromatographic column. The immunopotentiating effect was assayed in every step isolation. At last, the only substance having the strongest immunopotentiating effect had been isolated and purified. Through the procedure consisiting of Ultra-Violet spectroscopy (UV), IR (Infrared Radiation), Time of Flight Mass Spectrum (TOF-MS), Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) and Element analysis, the possible structure of compound M had been identified as cyclic (Pro-Gly) dipeptide (C7H10O2N2) (Diketopiperazine). To be determined the immunopotentiating effect, the mice were treated by intraperitoneal injection of cyclic (Pro-Gly) dipeptide in the treatment group and physiologic saline in the control group. At the 14th day after the injection, the SOD activity and the phagocytosis activities reached the peak value and were significantly higher than those in control group. At the 21st day, the bactericidal activity reached peak value and was significantly higher than that in the control group. From the above results, we concluded that the main active component enhancing the immunity of mice was cyclic (Pro-Gly) dipeptide in the metabolism of Bacillus mycoides.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the prevalence of suicide ideation, suicide plan and suicide attempts in middle school students in Hefei, Anhui province, and to determine correlated factors.
METHODSThe investigation was administered to 3127 middle school students from 7 schools in Hefei, Anhui province. All participants completed an anonymous questionnaire concerning their experiences with specific suicide behaviors during the 12 months preceding the survey. School life satisfaction, coping style were evaluated by School Life Satisfaction Rating Questionnaire for Adolescent and Trait Coping Style Questionnaire, respectively. Chi-squared test was used to assess gender difference of suicide ideation, suicide plan and suicide attempt. Logistic regression analyses were applied to identify factors associated with adolescent suicide behaviors.
RESULTSOf the subjects investigated, 28.0 percent had thought seriously about attempting suicide, 11.9 percent had made a specific plan to attempt suicide, and 4.0 percent actually had attempted suicide. It was found that main risk factors among three specific suicide behaviors were related to negative coping style. School life satisfaction was protecting factor of suicide ideation and suicide attempt.
CONCLUSIONIt was suggested that focusing on these psychosocial factors would help enhance suicide assessment and prevention efforts with adolescents.

Objective To develop an ideal cultural method to amplify embryonic hepatic stem cells and inhibit their differentiation in vitro. Methods Suspension of ED 14 Fischer (F) 344 rat em-bryonic hepatic stem cells was prepared by collagenase digestion and mechanical disaggregation. Then cells were divided into two groups randomly. The cells in group 1 were seeded into type I collagen-coated plates by adherent culture while those in group 2 were seeded into soft agar medium by suspen-sion culture. After culture for 2 weeks, the morphology and ultrastructure of cells in both groups were observed and compared by inverted microscope and transmission electron microscope, respectivley. The expression of CD90. 1 and CD49F, the two specific stem cell surface markers, was tested by flow cytometry to manifest the establishment of embryonic hepatic stem cells. Alkaline phosphatase stai-ning was used to detect stem cell differentiation. Result Embryonic hepatic stem cells in group 2 were characterized by higher nucleus-cytoplasm ratio and less cell organelles, higher expression of CD90. 1 and CD49F, and stronger positive reaction for alkaline phosphatase staining compared with those in group 1. Moreover, the cells in group 1 showed significant differentiation features. Conclusion Em-bryonic hepatic stem cells cultured suspendedly in soft agar medium experience less differentiation than those adherently cultured in serum-added culture medium, and can proliferate and form clone ball with a specific stem cell feature.
