Journal of Applied Clinical Pediatrics 2004;0(07):-
Objective To summarize the clinical and electroencephalography(EEG) characteristics of benign epilepsy with centro-temporal spikes (BECTS) in children. Methods The clinical manifestations,EEG findings, response to drug treatment and prognosis of 35 children with BECTS from Jul.2003 to Dec.2008 in the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University were analyzed retrospectively. Results In the 35 cases, the age of onset was 2.5 to 14.0 years old,and the peak age of onset was 6-10 years old(62.9%).Twenty-two cases mainly presented partial seizures:hemifacial convulsions, sialorrhea, sounds, limb tonic-clonic seizures, and secondary generalized seizures.Thirteen cases were only describled generalized tonic-clonic seizures.Seizures were closely related to sleep and almost occurred shortly after falling asleep or before waking up.There were 26 cases who displayed convulsion during sleeping, including noon break. The EEG features showed numerous or single spikes on one side or both sides in the central and temporal areas under the background of normal activity in interictal period. The release frequency of abnormal wave was significantly increased after falling asleep,so the EEG monitoring during sleep could improve the positive rate of BECTS.Monotherapy with low-dose anti-epileptic drug could obtain good efficacy.Twenty-five cases stopped seizures within 3 months after therapy.Thirty-three cases hadn't get seizure since drug therapy at the age of 16 years old.So far,12 cases had been stopped medicine. Conclusions BECTS mostly begins at school-aged children, which displays partial seizures or secondary generalized seizures. The seizures are closely related to sleep.EEG monitoring during sleep which shows numerous or single spikes on the centrotemporal area has crucial diagnostic value to BECTS.There is a positive response to monotherapy with low-dose anti-epileptic drug and generally the prognosis is good.

The aim of this paper is to apply Raman spectroscopy technique to develop rapid quantitative models for five kinds of Traditional Chinese Medicine containing CaCO3. In the experiment, Raman spectras of 67 batch of sample including Otolithum Sciaenae, Galaxeae Os, Ophicalcitum, Calcite, Stalactite and their mixture which had different content of CaCO3 were collected, and the quantitative models were established by using an improved siPLS to optimize the characteristic spectral bands and using the CaCO3 contents which were measured by EDTA titration method as references. Compared with the results by EDTA titration, the established quantitative model for CaCO, content showed a prediction result that the average relative deviation of the prediction results is 2. 71% and the average recovery rate was 100.46%, when the content is between 0.465 4-0.999 7, and when the characteristic spectral bands of 1 290-1 280, 730-714, 700-690, 660-650, 465-460, 455-445, 405-385 cm(-1) had been optimized. The result also showed that the model using Raman spectroscopy and based on an improved siPLS can get a rapid determination for contents of 5 kinds of Traditional Chinese Medicine containing CaCO3.

Objective To investigate the effect of selectively upward placement of acetabular implants on limb length and post?operative function of developmental dysplasia of the hip patients with shortened legs during total hip arthroplasty (THA). Methods Twenty?six cases of developmental dysplasia of the hip received THA between January 2008 and December 2013, in?cluding 12 cases of Crowe typeⅠ, 8 of Crowe typeⅡ, 6 of Crowe typeⅢ. There were 5 males and 21 females with an average age of 62.7 years (range, 36-80 years). The left hip was involved in 9 cases and the right hip in 17 cases. The preoperative mean Har?ris score was 42.30±12.84, and the preoperative mean WOMAC score was 59.08±13.84 at the last follow?up. The anteroposterior X?ray films and CT scan of the pelvis, anteroposterior and lateral X?ray films of the femur, and TraumaCad analysis were conducted routinely preoperation. More than 70%of the bone?implant interface was covered by appropriate upward distance of acetabular im?plant. Results The follow?up time ranged from 6 to 73 months (mean, 36 months). The Harris score improved to 91.18±7.09, and WOMAC score reduced to 9.85±3.75. According to postoperative measurement, affected limb had been lengthened by 0-5 mm in 8 cases, 6-10 mm in 5 cases, 11-15 mm in 5 cases,>15 mm in 7 cases, and shortening increased 1 mm in 1 case, but the average lengthening was 9.23±7.54 mm. The upward distance of acetabular implant was 0-5 mm in 10 cases, 6-10 mm in 7 cases and>10 mm in 9 cases. The average lengthening was 6.60±6.72 mm in patients having 0-5 mm upward distance, 11.90±5.64 mm in patients having 6-10 mm upward distance and 10.11 ± 9.35 mm in patients having>15 mm upward distance, showing no significant differ?ence. The leg length discrepancy was-3.70±6.43 mm in patients having 0-5 mm upward distance, 1.71±6.24 mm in patients having 6-10 mm upward distance and 0.56 ± 7.70 mm in patients having>15 mm upward distance, showing no significant difference. Con?clusion The limb length could be improved by selectively upward placement of acetabular implants in developmental dysplasia of the hip patients with anatomically abnormal acetabulum during THA, with reasonable preoperative design and corrective operation.

The aim of this paper is to clarify the mineral origin of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) Yangqishi and Yinqishi and guide identification of the both, by X-ray diffraction (XRD) Fourier patterns. Morphological identification and conventional physical and chemical analysis wee used to identify 22 batches of Yangqishi and Yinqishi. It used XRD Fourier patterns which has been collected from sample powders to analyze phase composition. It has been found experimentally that the mineral origin of Yinqishi is Talc schist and the mineral origin of Yangqishi is tremolite and actinolite. The results also showed that the method using XRD can get not only an accurate but also rapid identification of Yangqishi and Yinqishi. There are many differences in medicinal properties, efficacy, indications and composition of Yangqishi and Yinqishi, so be careful not to mix them up.

Chinese Journal of Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine 2007;27(6):501-504
OBJECTIVETo evaluate the intervention effect of Feiji Recipe (FJR) on tumor immune escape.
METHODSIn the prospective randomized control study, 60 cases of middle stage and advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with qi-yin deficiency syndrome were randomly assigned to the treatment group and the control group, 30 in each group. The levels of CD+ CD25+ Tr, interleukin-10 (IL-10), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), sCD44v6 and transforming growth factor-beta1 (TGF-beta1) of peripheral blood were observed before and after treatment, and the clinical efficacy of FJR was evaluated depending upon the changes in tumor size, Karnofsky Performance scoring (KPS) and TCM syndrome.
RESULTS(1) The levels of CD4+ CD2+Tr, VEGF, sCD44v6, TGF-beta1, and IL-10 decreased, in the treatment group as compared with those in the control group, respectively. (2) The stabilization rate of tumor in the treatment group was superior to that in the control group (78.26% vs 50.00%, P < 0.05). (3) The stabilization rate of KPS increasing in the treatment group and the control group was 76.67% and 43.33% respectively, suggesting the improvement of KPS in the treatment group was superior to that in the control group (P < 0.01). (4) Improvement in TCM qi-yin deficiency syndrome was more significant in the treatment group than that in the control group.
CONCLUSIONFJR can stabilize the tumor body, improve the clinical symptoms of middle stage and advanced NSCLC with qi-yin deficiency syndrome, promote patients' quality of life, and is effective in recovering immuno-surveillance and intervening immune escape of lung cancer through multi-pathway to enhance the clinical therapeutic efficacy.

Objective To explore the test-retest reliability of the open field test,as a method for ethology in Kunming mice. Methods The behavior of adult male Kunming mice in the open field test was recorded twice, once for five minutes, with a one-week inter-trial interval. The following parameters were evaluated:number of central squares; number of peripheral squares; percent of central squares; number of horizontal squares; number of rearings; total score; and number of fecal boli. Subsequently, the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and the agreement index (Kappa) were calculated for each of these parameters. Results Both ICC and Kappa for total score( ICC =0.902, P<0.01; Kappa =0.680, P<0.01; r=0.815, P<0.01 ) showed a good reliability and correlation between the test trials. Only ICC for number of central squares ( ICC = 0. 578, P < 0.01 ), number of peripheral squares( ICC =0.615, P<0.01 ) ,percent of central squares(ICC=0.523, P<0.01) ,number of horizontal squares( ICC = 0. 607, P < 0.01 ) and number of rearings ( ICC = 0. 606, P < 0.01 ) indicated a fair reliability between the test trials. Neither ICC nor Kappa for number of fecal boli displayed a significant reliability between the test trials. The difference of these parameters between test and retest, such as number of peripheral squares( t =3.01, P<0.01 ),number of horizontal squares( t = 3.34, P < 0.01 ) and total score( t = 7.86, P < 0.01 ) were significant. Conclusion The parameter, total score for Kunming mice in the open field test,is found to be stable over time, and indicates a good reliability with a one-week inter-trial interval.
10.Recent advance on LFA-1/ICAM-1 costimulatory signal of T cell-review.
Wen-Rong HUANG ; Li-Sheng WANG ; Wan-Ming DA
Journal of Experimental Hematology 2004;12(4):533-537
LFA-1/ICAM-1 costimulation plays an important role in immunologic reaction of many different T cell populations. After TCR/CD3 complex cross-linking MHC/peptide, LFA-1, expressed on T cell increases a higher affinity and avidity for ICAM-1 rapidly. LFA-1 is a key molecule in formation of the immune synapse. LFA-1/ICAM-1 costimulation can engage various signaling events of T cell by up-regulating the activities of PI 3-kinase, sphingomyelinase, and c-Jun NH2-terminal kinase. With the costimulation of LFA-1/ICAM-1, engagement of TCR molecules results in a significant increase of T cell activities, including higher Th1 cytokines production, strongly proliferative response and higher T cell cytotoxicity.
