The shape and position of the central fibrous body (CFB) and the relation between the CFB and the conduction system were observed in 30 human hearts (children: 25 cases, adult: 5 cases) in serial sections. The shape of the CFB was wedge-shaped. The CFB of each child was horizontal in position, but the CFB of each adult was nearly sagittal in position.A-V node was a long sagittal flat structure. Its left surface contacted with the CFB and the left surface of A-V node often extended processes into the CFB in the children. The processes were called archipelagos. About 80 percent of the children with superficial archipelagos, and 16 percent with deep archipelagos. The superficial archipelagos in the adults was only found in one case, but the deep archipelagos were not seen. His bundle more permanently penetrated into the right inferior part of the CFB.

Splenogastric hygropyrexia syndrome, a common syndome in clinical practice, responds well to the therapy of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). In view of the complexity of TCM syndrome formation, proceeding from different aspects such as Helicobacter pylori (Hp) infection, expression of inflammatory factors, mucosal protection and change in micro-ecosystem, the authors proposed that Hp infection in gastric mucosa, nuclear factor-kappa B activation, over-expression of heat shock protein 70, and "excessive evil, dyssplenism and confliction between healthy energy and evils" due to disequilibrium between Hp and lactobacillus acidophilus in gastric mucosa and coated tongue may be the important links in the formation of Hp related gastrosis with splenogastric hygropyrexia syndrome.

Objective: To evaluate the effects of 650 nm-10.6 μm combined laser in patients with knee Osteoarthritis (OA) and to determine whether the combined laser provides greater pain relief and improved function compared with red light. Methods: Forty-eight patients with knee OA were randomly allocated to two groups (24 per group), receiving 20 rain irradiation with 650 nm -10.6 μm combined laser or red light emitting diode respectively on point Dubi (ST 35) 3 times a week for the first course (2 weeks) and twice a week for the second one (4 weeks). The main outcome measures were WOMAC (Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index) scores. In addition, patients' global assessment, adverse effects and validation of patient blinding were analyzed. Results: All the patients completed the first course, but 12 were lost during the second one. Due to the high dropout rate by the second course, only the data acquired from the first course could be analyzed. No differences of general data of patients and WOMAC scores were found in between-group comparison before treatment (P>0.05). The WOMAC scores of patients in both combined laser group and red light group reduced significantly compared to baseline by the end of the first course (P<0.01). There were no significant differences on the reduction rate of WOMAC scores between two groups (P>0.05). Neither the patients' global assessment nor the dropout rate showed statistical differences between two groups (P>0.05). There was no difference between two groups in patients correctly guessing the treatment assignment (P>0.05). There was no significant difference in the reduction rate of WOMAC scores and the patients' global assessment between patients who guessed their assignment (P>0.05). Conclusion: Both combined laser and red light irradiation are beneficial to patients with knee OA. But as the statistical indifferences between two groups, the authors can't conclude from this study whether the combined laser is more effective.

Background: It remains unclear what the antiviral therapy affects disease?free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) of patients with hepatitis B virus (HBV)?related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) at different tumor stages and baseline HBV DNA levels. In this study, we analyzed the association of antiviral treatment with DFS and OS based on the stratifi?cation of baseline HBV DNA load in early?stage (stages I and II) HCC patients. Methods: We included 445 patients with early?stage HBV?related HCC who underwent curative resection, and then classified them into four subgroups based on baseline HBV DNA load and antiviral therapy stratification. The Kaplan–Meier and Cox regression analyses were performed to determine the association of clinical characteristics with survival. Results: The median follow?up period was 74 months. For all patients, cumulative OS rates in the antiviral group were significantly higher than those in the non?antiviral group (log?rank test, P = 0.023), whereas no significant differencesin DFS rates were observed. High baseline HBV DNA level was a risk factor associated with short DFS and OS in all patients. In patients with baseline HBV DNA levels ≥2000 IU/mL, antiviral treatment was significantly associated withprolonged DFS and OS (log?rank test, P or undetectable, antiviral treatment did not show a significant benefit in prolonging DFS and OS. Conclusions: High baseline HBV DNA levels are associated with poor prognosis in the patients with early?stage HCC, and the antiviral treatment could generate survival benefits for the patients. Therefore, antiviral treatment should be given for these patients. However, the effect of antiviral treatment on the patients with low viral load remains unclear, and further investigation is warranted.

Background: Patients with intermediate to advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are most commonly treated with transarterial chemoembolization (TACE). Previous studies showed that TACE combined with recombinant human adenovirus type 5 (H101) may provide a clinical survival benefit. In the present study, we aimed to determine the survival benefit of TACE with or without H101 for patients with intermediate to advanced HCC and to develop an effective nomogram for predicting individual survival outcomes of these patients. Methods: We retrospectively collected data from 590 patients with intermediate to advanced HCC who were treated at Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center between January 2007 and July 2015. After propensity score matching, 238 patients who received TACE with H101 (TACE with H101 group) and 238 patients who received TACE without H101 (TACE group) were analyzed. Overall survival (OS) was evaluated using the Kaplan–Meier method; the nomogram was developed based on Cox regression analysis. Discrimination and calibration were measured using the concordance index (c-index) and calibration plots. Results: Clinical and radiologic features were similar between the two groups. OS rates were significantly lower in the TACE group than in the TACE with H101 group (1-year OS rate, 53.8% vs. 61.3%; 2-year OS rate, 33.4% vs. 44.2%;3-year OS rate, 22.4% vs. 40.5%; all P < 0.05). Multivariate Cox regression analysis for the entire cohort showed that alpha-fetoprotein level, alkaline phosphatase level, tumor size, metastasis, vascular invasion, and TACE with or without H101 were independent factors for OS, all of which were included in the nomogram. Calibration curves showed good agreement between nomogram-predicted survival and observed survival. The c-index of the nomogram for predict-ing OS was 0.716 (95% confidence interval 0.686–0.746). Conclusions: TACE plus H101 extends the survival of patients with intermediate to advanced HCC. Our proposed nomogram provides individual survival prediction and stratification for patients with intermediate to advanced HCC who receive TACE with or without H101.
