Microbiology 1992;0(06):-
Chlorella pyrenoidosa No.2 was screened from five species of microalga Chlorella sp. for its higher lipid yield. Effects of medium components and culture conditions on cell growth as well as lipid ac-cumulation of C. pyrenoidosa No.2 were investigated and the results showed that the optimum medium rec-ipe was 20.0 g/L glucose,0.08 g/L glycine,1.0 g/L K2HPO4?3H2O,0.4 g/L MgSO4?7H2O and 0.004 g/L FeSO4?7H2O. The optimum culture temperature, initial pH,shaking rate and light intensity were 28℃,6.0,130 r/min and 650 Lux,respectively. Biomass and lipid content increased from 3.73 g/L and 40.15% to 6.56 g/L and 59.90% when Chlorella pyrenoidosa No.2 was cultivated under the above optimal conditions for 7 days, with lipid yield raised by 162%. Chlorella pyrenoidosa No.2 could produce lipid with xylose as carbon source, and so is potential for lipid production from renewable materials such as lignocellulose. GC analysis demonstrated that the fatty acid composition of the lipid was similar to that of vegetable oil and its unsaturated fatty acid content reached around 71%,thus it is a promising material for biodiesel production.

Aim To study the effect of ZD7288 on synaptic transmission in the pathway from perforant pathway (PP) fibers to CA3 region in rat hippocampus. Methods The extracellular recording technique in vivo was used to record the CA3 region field potentials. High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with fluorescence detection was applied to measure the content of amino acids in hippocampal tissues. The effect of ZD7288 and CsCl on the amplitudes of population spike (PS) in CA3 region evoked by stimulation (0.5 Hz) of the perforant pathway (PP) fibers, and the content of amino acids in hippocampal tissue were observed. Results Microinjection of ZD7288 (20, 100 and 200 nmol)and CsCl (1,5 and 10 μmol) into CA3 region decreased the population spike (PS) amplitudes in a dosedependent manner. The inhibitory effects appeared at 5 min after microinjection and lasted at least 90 min.In those rats treated with ZD7288 (100 nmol), the contents of glutamate, aspartate, glycine and GABA decreased significantly as compared to those of saline control ( all P<0.01, except P<0.05 for that of glycine). A similar decrease in the contents of amino acids was observed when the rats were microinjected with CsCl (5 μmol). Conclusion ZD7288 could obviously inhibit synaptic transmission in the pathway from PP fibers to CA3 region in rat hippocampus, and this action of ZD7288 may be associated with altered contents of amino acids.

This research is to investigate study the flavonoids from stems of Nelumbo nucifera and the cytotoxic activities of iso- lated compounds. The constituents were separated by column chromatography, and their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic data analyses. The isolated compounds were evaluated for cytoxic activities by MTT method. Twelve compounds were isolated and identified as rhamnazin-3-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (1), luteolin-3', 4'-dimethylether-7-O-beta-D-glucoside (2), kaempferol-3-O-beta-D-xylopyranosyl-(1-->2)-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (3), quercetin-3,3'-di-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (4), 1, 8-dihydroxy-3,7-dimethoxyxanthone (5), isorhamnetin-3-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside(6) , kaempferol(7), isorhamnetin (8), quercetin(9), astragalin(10), hyperoside (11) and 1-hy- droxy-3,7,8-trimethoxyxanthone(12). All compounds were isolated from stems of this plant for the first time, and compounds 1-5 were firstly isolated from the family nelumbonaceae. Compounds 24 and 6 showed significant cytotoxic activities against BEL-7402 carcinoma cell lines at a concentration of 1 x 10(-5) mol x L(-1) with the inhibitory rate of 67.36%, 53.25%, 57.78%, 60.13% and 52.11%, respectively.

Parenteral & Enteral Nutrition 1997;0(02):-
Objectives:To observe the relationship between 2 different ways of nasal tube nutrition supplement patterns and clinical patients'endurance and complication. Methods:Self contrast study was used in 8 cases of old patients supplied with nasal tube nutrition for 4 months(perfusion and dripping pattern 2 months each). Biochemical indices and enteric complications before and after nasal tube nutrition were observed. Results:Slowly dripping supplement pattern greatly decreased the incidence of inhalation pneumonia and other complications related with gastro enteric nutrition supplement, such as diarrhea, bloating, vomits and etc.The nutritional status was obviously improved when the continuous dripping supplement pattern was used. Conclusions:Continuous dripping supplement pattern is better than perfusion supplement pattern.

Parenteral & Enteral Nutrition 1997;0(03):-
Objective: To measure the glycemic index of foods contained low carbohydratesand discuss the relationship between glycemic index and the amount of fat, carbohydrate, protein and diet fiber from these foods. Methods: According to the method of Wolver, the GIs of these kinds of foods had been determined and caculated by using 25 gram carbohydrates as control because of the low percent(10%)of carbohydrates in foods. Results: The results of GI in 13 kinds of the foods were worked out and there was negative correlation between diet fiber and GI. Conclusions: The inference factors of GI are not the kinds of carbohydrate but the amount of diet fiber in these foods.
