Objective To explore clinical value of tumor specific growth factors (TSGF) in serum and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) on differential diagnosis of benign and malignant periphery solitary pulmonary nodules (PSPN). Methods Serum and BALF from both normal and afflicted side were collected from 211 patients with PSPN(case group) and from 196 patients without any type of tumor (control group). TSGF and carcinoembry-onic antigen (CEA) in serum and BALF were measured in both groups. Results In the malignant PSPN patients, CEA in serum, normal and afflicted side were 28.73 (SD: 15.61) μg/L,63.31 (SD:21.28) μg/L and 85.54(SD: 26.19)μg/L,respectively, which was significantly higher than that of the benign PSPN patients (7.21(SD:2.43) μg/L, 12.36(SD:6.93)μg/L and 14.65 (SD:8.07)μg/L,respectively), as well as that of the control group (4.68 (SD: 1.25) μ/L and 11.06(SD:8.03) μg/L in serum and BALF, respectively (P < 0.05). TSGF in the serum and BALF from the normal and afflicted side of malignant PSPN patients was 88.73 (SD:13.51)μg/L, 110.73 (SD: 18.64) μg/L and 162.80(SD:58.89) μg/L, respectively, which were significantly higher than that of the benign PSPN patients (56.31(SD: 2.43) μg/L, 79.25 [SD: 36.86] and 86.29 (SD: 37.07) μg/L, respectively) (P <0.05). Furthermore, in the malignant PSPN patients, TSGF and CEA in the afflicted side were significantly higher than that of the normal side. Sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of TSGF in BALF from the afflicted side for malig-nant diagnosis were 86.6%,100.0% and 98.6%,respectively,which was higher than that of CEA (70.2% ,78. 9% and 76.5% respectively) and that of serum TSGF (73.1% ,88.9% and 85.7% respectively). Conclusions TSGF in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid and serum has a significant role in differential diagnosis of benign and malig-nant periphery solitary pulmonary nodules. Furthermore, measurement of TSGF in bilateral BALF is helpful in diag-nosis of tumor location.

To obtain the P8 protein of Rice gall dwarf virus (RGDV) with biological activity, its outer coat protein gene S8 was expressed in Spodoptera frugiperda (Sf9) insect cells using the baculovirus expression system. The S8 gene was subcloned into the pFastBacTM1 vector, to produce the recombinant baculovirus transfer vector pFB-S8. After transformation, pFB-S8 was introduced into the competent cells (E. coli DH10Bac) containing a shuttle vector, Bacmid, generating the recombinant bacmid rbpFB-S8. After being infected by recombinant baculovirus rvpFB-S8 at different multiplicities of infection, Sf9 cells were collected at different times and analyzed by SDS-PAGE, Western blotting and immunofluorescence microscopy. The expression level of the P8 protein was highest between 48-72 h after transfection of Sf9 cells. Immunofluorescence microscopy showed that P8 protein of RGDV formed punctate structures in the cytoplasm of Sf9 cells.

Objective To investigate the effects and values of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (EC-MO) used in patients after cardiac arrest. Method During five years period from June 2002 to June 2007,fifteen cases taken for cardiopulmonary resuscitation were treated by using ECMO in the emergency department and ICU. All the measures for disgnosis and treatment were observed to the guidelines for cardiopulmonary resuscitation and emergency cardiovasculat care set by the American Heart Association in 2005, and ECMO was applied in addition. The study was a self-comparison trial. The biomarkers including heart rate (HR), mean arterial pressure (MAP), central venous pressure( CVP) , arterial partial oxygen pressure (PaO2), arterial partial pressure of carbon dioxide ( PCQ2), oxygen saturation (SaO2), hydrogen power (PH), and concentration of lactic acid were taken and assayed before and 10 min, 1 h,6 h, 12 h, and 24 h after treatment. Differences between the results of measurements were analysed by t -test for matched pairs using SPSS version 10.0 software package. Neurological sequelae was also observed and described. Results Ten minutes after ECMO treatment, MAP rose dramatically (P < 0.01) and got to further higher level one hour later ( P < 0.05). On the other hand, CVP dropped off 10 minutes after ECMO treatment and further lowered one hour later, and PaO2 and SaO2 were improved apparently ( P < 0.01), and pH was increased significantly (P < 0.01), while a derease in concentration of arterial LA of significantly (P < 0.01). Of the 15 cases, 11 patients got well, including completely recovered without sequelae in 5,memory disorders in 2 and hemipleggia in 2 patients. Conclusions ECMO provides effective blood flow to hearts, and therefore, improves oxygenation and oxygen consumption greatly. Moreover, it provides stable oxygenated blood to brain and therefore, it is a good approach to cardiopulmonary cerebral resuscitation.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the changes in local endometrial contents of estrogen receptors (ER) and progesterone receptors (PR) after insertion of levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system (LNG-IUS) and evaluate the efficacy of LNG-IUS in treating endometrial hyperplasia.
METHODSThe endometrial histological changes were observed in 25 anovulatory women with dysfunctional uterine bleeding after insertion of LNG-IUS, and the contents of ERs and PRs in the endometrium were measured by immunohistochemistry.
RESULTSThe endometrial proliferation activity was obviously inhibited 6 months after LNG-IUS insertion with decreased endometrial glands, glandular dysplasia and decidualization of interstitial cells. The positive cell rate for ERs and PRs in the glandular epithelial and interstitial cells were significantly reduced after LNG-IUS insertion.
CONCLUSIONSLNG-IUS can reduce ER and PR expressions in the endometrium and inhibit endometrial proliferation, and therefore can be effective in treating simple and complex endometrial hyperplasia.

OBJECTIVE:
To analyze the intrauterine phenotype and genotype of eight fetuses carrying a 16p11.2 microdeletion.
METHODS:
5100 fetuses undergoing routine prenatal diagnosis were subjected to single nucleotide polymorphism-based microarray (SNP-array) analysis. Fetuses harboring a 16p11.2 microdeletion were analyzed for their ultrasonographic characteristics.
RESULTS:
Eight fetuses were found to harbor a microdeletion in the 16p11.2 region. Among these, six had a typical 500-600 kb deletion, while the remaining two had an atypical 220 kb deletion at the distal part of 16p11.2. Four fetuses showed vertebral malformations, two had mild left ventriculomegaly, one had hydrocephalus, and one had pulmonary valve stenosis with regurgitation. The parents of five fetuses have accepted pedigree verification, and the results confirmed that the 16p11.2 microdeletions carried by fetuses all had a de novo origin.
CONCLUSION
The intrauterine phenotypes of fetuses carrying a 16p11.2 microdeletion may be variable, and the deletion can be effectively detected with the SNP-array assay.
