AIM: It is tested that the suppressive effects of (-)-Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG ) on the migration, invasion and RhoA expression of human lung carcinoma 95-D cells and B16BL6 melanoma cells invasion in vivo, which will possibly help to understand the molecular mechanisms by which EGCG inhibits the invasion of tumor cells. METHODS: The inhibitory effect of EGCG on the migration of 95-D cells was tested by cell migration assay. Cell invasion was analyzed by the matrigel invasion assay. Assay of tumor metastasis in an animal model, RT-PCR and Western blot analysis of expression of RhoA was also performed. RESULTS:EGCG was effective in inhibiting the migration of 95-D cells in a dose-dependent manner. EGCG dose-dependently inhibited 95-D cells invasion in vitro and 40 μmol·L-1 EGCG exhibited 79.9% inhibition and EGCG 50 mg·kg-1·d-1 for 3 weeks inhibited B16BL6 melanoma cells invasion by 71.7% in vivo. EGCG could down-regulate the expression of RhoA. CONCLUSION: EGCG strongly inhibits metastasis of 95-D cells, and the mechanism of EGCG is possible associated with the inhibition of RhoA expression.

Fish protein powder and fresh fish meal had been successfuly applied to infant feeding as milk substitute for infants during 1962-1964 by Shanghai Children's Hospital. On this basis the authors conducted another experiment intending to testify the therapeutic effect of fish protein powder in 1980-1981. One hundred and fifty infantile diarrhea cases were studied, wherein, 121 children aged under 12 months. By administering fish protein powder to the patients with various dosages according to ages, generally 5 gms. per day in a certain period, it was found that of the total diarrhea patients under study, 53.3% completely recovered, 22.0% became better significantly, 17.3% took a favourable turn, and 7.3% failed to respond to the treatment.Intensive observation and statistical analysis revealed that fish protein powder is not only suitable for normal infants as their milk supplement but also effective as a pharmaceutical to cure infantile diarrhea, especially for those who suffer from malnutrition with complications. Its pharmacology, however, has yet to be disclosed.

Acta Nutrimenta Sinica 1956;0(03):-
Blood glucose level responses to different diets were examined in 12 healthy man. The test breakfasts consist of different proportion of protein and carbohydrate. Three kinds of test breakfast were fed respectively for each person. Blood glucose were measured before and 1, 2 and 4 hr after breakfast. The results indicated that high-CHO diet maintained higher level of blood glucose than other diets in 1-2 hr after breakfast. However the blood glucose level began dropping from 2 hr and dropped below fasting level at 4 hr after breakfast. The high-protein diet resulted in decreasing of blood glucose level in 1-2 hr after breakfast. The blood glucose level then increased continuously until 4 hr after breakfast. The results in this experiment showed that adjustment of the proportion of carbohydrate and protein in diets could maintain the blood glucose to a higher and stable level.
