The expression of sLea/x which correlates with conventional histopathologic parameters serves as a useful indicator for the prognosis of metastatic disease. The bindings between sLea/x and their common ligand E-selectin initiate hematogenous metastasis of cancer. Certain bioactive conformation is crucial for the interaction between sLea/x and their ligands. Thus, a new class of compounds that mimic the structures of sLea/x can potently inhibit not only their functional bindings to selectins, but also the metastasis of cancer. This review is mainly on the sLea/x molecular structure, biosynthesis, distribution, especially the relationship between sLea/x and hematogenous metastasis of cancer and the design of drugs that mimic the structures of sLea/x.

OBJECTIVETo assess the expression of HER-2 and leptin in gastric cancer and evaluate their relationship with VEGF expression and clinicopathological features, and their prognostic value for gastric cancer patients.
METHODSOne hundred and ten gastric cancer specimens and the corresponding metastatic lymph nodes were detected for HER-2 by immunohistochemistry (IHC). All primary cancer tissues were detected for leptin, OB-Rb and VEGF. Ninty-six specimens of normal gastric mucosa served as the control.
RESULTSThe expression level of HER-2, leptin and OB-Rb in gastric cancer tissues were significantly higher than those in normal tissues (19.1% vs. 8.0%, 49.1% vs. 34.0%, and 60.9% vs. 46.0%, P < 0.05). HER-2 overexpression was moderately homogenous in primary gastric cancer and matastatic lymph nodes (P = 0.607, Kappa = 0.581). There was a correlation between the expression of HER-2 and leptin, both of which were significantly correlated with tumor invasion depth, metastatic lymph nodes ratio (NR), distal metastasis, TNM stage and VEGF expression. However, there was no significant correlation between OB-Rb expression and the clinicopathological features evaluated. Cox regression multivariate analysis showed that tumor size, histological grade, NR, stage, chemotherapy and HER-2 expression were independent prognostic factors.
CONCLUSIONSHER-2 is stably expressed in primary gastric cancer and metastatic lymph nodes. HER-2 and leptin play an important role in the progression and angiogenesis of gastric cancer. High expression of HER-2 is a prognostic factor for poor outcome.

ABSTRACT:OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to identify Alisma orientale (Sam.)Juzep.and its adulterants using the ITS2 barcode.METHODS The total DNAs were extracted from twenty-eight samples of A.orientale as well as adulterants. The ITS2 sequences of these samples were amplified and sequenced. The acquired sequences were submitted to the GenBank and the other ITS2 sequences of 17 samples from ten species were downloaded from the GenBank.Total 45 ITS2 sequences were aligned and the genetic distances among them were analyzed with MEGA 5.1.The sequences analyses were performed u-sing the BLAST1 and the nearest distance methods, and were presented intuitively by constructing Neighbor-joining(NJ)tree. RESULTS The lengths of all ITS2 sequences of A.orientale and A.plantago-aquatica were 311 bp.Only one mutation exis-ted among them. There was significant divergence between the interspecific and intraspecific genetic distances of the ITS2 se-quences.The NJ tree showed that A.orientale is obviously different from its adulterants, which showed high monophyly. CONCLUSION As a DNA barcode,ITS2 sequences can stably and accurately distinguish A.orientale from its adulterants and also provide a new clue to identify the medical germplasm resources and ensure the clinical safety in utilization of Chinese mate-ria medica.

Journal of Forensic Medicine 2017;33(6):622-628
Internal carotid arterial system is the main source of blood supply in brain. In forensic identi-fication practice, blunt injures of internal carotid arterial system usually cause complications such as throm-bus, aneurysm and arteriovenous fistula, etc. The deaths following delayed cerebral infarction or intracra-nial haemorrhage are not rare. At present, literature of deaths caused by blunt injuries of internal carotid arterial system mainly consist of case reports in China. This paper reviews related literature and case re-ports at home and abroad, and summarizes forensic medical features and identification method of the deaths caused by such injuries. The results show that blunt injures of internal carotid arterial system are related to the direct or indirect force on head and neck, which can result in exceed physiological range traction of head and neck, incision following basicranial fracture, etc. Such injuries are common in the cases as mechanical asphyxia, cervical manipulation, traffic accident and fall, etc. The artery should be examined carefully, and the relationship among injury, disease and death should be analysed correctly when no cause of infarction and hemorrhage was found in routine examination of such cases in forensic pratice. Because of the difficulty for exposing the artery completely in autopsy, angiography can be used to infer the location when necessary for improving the scientificity and reliability of the appraisal conclusion.

Objective To analyze the status of health literacy and its relationship with chronic diseases and self-reported health among residents in Qingdao, discuss the influence of health literacy on health status and provide the scientific basis for the development of health education strategies and measures. Methods The stratified multistage and probability proportionate to population size sampling(PPS sampling) method was adopted in this investigation. In 2017, a questionnaire survey was conducted among 16 700 permanent residents aged 15-69 from 10 districts in Qingdao. Results The overall level of health literacy status was 15.92%, the prevalence rate of chronic diseases was 19.31%, the self-reported health proportion of good, fair and poor were 81.68%, 12.12% and 1.71% among residents in Qingdao. Logistic regression analysis showed that, after adjusting for urban and rural areas, gender, age, education, income and occupation, health literacy was a protective factor for people with chronic diseases and self-evaluated health(OR=1.232,P=0.003;OR=1.159,P=0.033). Three aspects of health literacy were correlated with chronic diseases and self-reported health among people (all P<0.05). Conclusions Health literacy is positively correlated with the health status of residents. The improvement of health literacy is an important way to enhance the health status of residents.
