AIM: To compare the effect of treating cataract by sodium hyaluronate injection and lens - loop nucleus extraction of small incision cataract excision and explore more suitable method to promote the use of surgery in primary hospital.
METHODS: All 146 cataract patients ( 166 eyes ) were allocated to two groups in random: the control group 78 patients ( 84 eyes ) received conventional lens loop for extracapsular cataract extraction;the experiment group 68 patients (82 eyes) underwent nucleus extraction in small incision with sodium hyaluronate injection for extracapsular cataract extraction. Postoperative visual acuity and intraoperative and postoperative complications were compared between two groups.
RESULTS: Incidence of posterior capsule rupture difference was statistically significant (P<0. 05) in small incision nucleus extraction with sodium hyaluronate injection compared with conventional lens loop for extracapsular cataract extraction. And there was no significant difference ( P> 0. 05 ) in postoperative visual acuity, astigmatism degree and postoperative complications compared with those of pre-operation.
CONCLUSION: Compared with the lens loop nucleus extraction, sodium hyaluronate injection for extracapsular cataract extraction can effectively protect the posterior lens capsule and can be promoted in small incision cataract surgery.

The expressions of StAR (steroidogenic acute regulatory protein) mRNA in testes from 7,14,23 and 37 day-old piglets were studied by tissue in situ hybridization. The results indicated that in the testes of piglets, StARmRNA was expressed in Leydig cells of pig testes. The expression level of StARmRNA was lower in 7 days piglets but higher in 14,23,37 days. The results indicated that StAR gene played an important role in steroid biosynthesis.

Objective To study the changes of insulin- like growth factor- 1(IGF-1)in blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in children with viral encephalitis (VE).Methods The IGF-1 levels in blood and CSF were determined before treatment by ELISA in 25 children who admitted with VE, including 15 cases with severe VE and another 10 cases with mild VE, 10 children served as con-trols. Results Before treatment, the blood IGF-1 levels in VE group were significantly lower than those of controls, but the CSF IGF-1 levels were significantly higher than those of controls(P0.05), but the blood IGF-1 levels in serve VE group were significanfly lower than those of mild VE group and controls(P

AIM:To explore the inhibitive effects of cervical lymphadenectomy on kerstoplasy after alkaline burns.METHODS:The Wistar rats' corneas were transplanted into Sprague-Dawley(SD)rats' eyes which were randomly divided into 4 groups:group A(control group);group B,the cervicallymphadenectomy group;group C,corneal transplantation after the alkali burn injury;group D,cervical lymphadenectomy following group C.Out of 6 rats in each group,the cornea of one rat Was used for mawophage immunohistochemistry at day 14 after the transplantstion,and the remaining 5 rats were used for studying corneal immune rejection with a slit lamp.The time when allograft rejection occurred was recorded and mean survival times(MST)were compared among the groups.RESULTS:Compared with the MST of group A(10.40±1.14 days),the MST of group B(46.30±9.46 days)Was significantly longer(P＜0.05).MST of grafts between group C(7.00± 1.58 days)and group D(15.00±3.39 days)was also significant (P＜0.05).At 14th day after the transplantation,there was no CD68 immunoreactivity in the graft of group B,and CD68 proteins were expressed to some extent in the grafts of group A and D.However,in the graft of group C,the expression of proteins Was dramatically up-regulated.CONCLUSION:Cervical lymphadenectomy therapy has a significant effect in preventing corneal allograft rejection in normal and alkali burned oorneai beds.

OBJECTIVETo discuss the indication and outcome of volar Barton fracture treated by nonoperative method.

METHODSTwenty-three cases of volar Barton fracture treated by closed method included 8 male and 15 female with an average age of 52.2 years,ranging 16 to 84 years. Among them, 16 cases showed subluxation of the carpus (15 cases were Mehara type I ,1 case was Mehara type III) by radiographs except the other 7 cases. By the experimentation in 32 cadavers, the injury of dorsal radiocarpal ligament was supposed to be a very important cause of the subluxation of the radiocarpal joint. The criteria of Pattee and Thompson was used to evaluate the outcome of the treatment.

RESULTSTwenty-three patients were followed up for 7 to 70 months, 11 cases gained satisfactory outcome (1 case as excellent, 10 cases as good), 12 cases gained unsatisfactory outcome (5 cases as fair, 7 cases as poor). Five of 7 cases without the subluxation of the carpus by the radiographs gained satisfactory outcome. Six of 16 cases with the subluxation of the carpus gained satisfactory outcome.

CONCLUSION(1) The result of reduction will influence the outcome of the treatment, the step on articular surface shoud be less than 2 mm after reduction. (2) Nonoperative method is recommended if volar Barton fractures are not associated with subluxation of the carpus. (3) Nonoperative method can be tried first if the fractures associated with the subluxation of the carpus, however operation is recommended when the articular step is more than 2 mm.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the geomorphological performance, the characteristics of volume, and the largest signal intension of blood oxygenation level dependent functional magnetic resonance imaging (BOLD-fMRI) in brain tumors located in or closed to the central area. METHODS: We recruited 13 normal volunteers and 31(13 benign tumors and 18 malignant tumors) patients with brain tumor located in or closed to the central area, to examine both side hand motor and tactile function by BOLD-fMRI and obtained the activation map and its superposition image with T1 imaging, the volume, and the largest signal intension of the functional area by SPM software which manipulated the raw data in the off-line work station. The volume and the largest signal intension data of the functional area were statistically analyzed by SPSS 13.0. RESULTS: The volume and the largest signal intension of the activation map in the normal functional area had hemisphere advantage. There was difference in the activated signal pixel number and the largest signal intension of the functional area between the benign brain tumors, malignant brain tumors, and the normal volunteers (P < 0.05). The shape, anatomic location, the volume, and the largest signal intension of the functional area were changed in the patients with brain tumors. CONCLUSION BOLD-fMRI is a valid method to assess the pre-surgical risk of patients with brain tumors, which can get the volume, the largest signal intension, the basic shape,and the anatomic location of the functional area.
