1.Influence of single leaf Asarum himalaicum on renal function of rabbits

OBJECTIVE: To study the influence of single leaf Asarum himalaicum on the renal function of rabbits. METHODS: Rabbits were divided into three groups. Asarum himalaicum, Asarum heterotropoides and normal saline were intravenously administered to the rabbits of one group respectively. The urine volume per minute, urine pH, urine glucose, protein and red blood cells, BUN, SCr, TXB2, 6-keto-PGF1alpha, TXB2/6-keto-PGF1alpha, endothelin, p-aminohippuric acid clearance rate and phenolsulfonphthalein excretion rate were tested before and after the administration. RESULTS: A certain dosage of single leaf Asarum himalaicum caused acute renal failure in rabbits. The indices tested were significantly different between rabbits administered Asarum himalaicum and normal saline. As compared with the rabbits administered Asarum heterotropoides, the results of indices tested decreased, but without statistical significance, except for SCr. CONCLUSION: The single leaf Asarum himalaicum can cause renal damage to rabbits. Its renal toxicity is lower that that of Asarum heterotropoides.

ObjectiveTo compare the efficacy and tolerability of 1-week 1% terbinafine hydrochloride cream, 1- and 4-week 2% miconazole nitrate cream in the treatment of interdigital tinea pedis, and to observe the relapse in patients treated with these regimens. MethodsA multi-center, randomized, double-blind and parallel group study was conducted. By using a stratified randomization protocol, patients were divided into 3 groups to apply terbinafine cream twice daily for 1 week and inert cream(placebo) for the next 3 weeks (1week terbinafine group), miconazole cream twice daily for 1 week and inert cream(placebo) for the next 3 weeks (1-week miconazole group), and miconazole cream twice daily for 4 weeks (4-week miconazole group),respectively. Clinical and mycological assessment was made on week 1, 3, 4, 6, 9 and 12 after the initiation of treatment. ResultsA total of 152 patients with positive baseline mycological culture were eligible for the efficacy analysis. After 4-week treatment, the mycological cure rates were 94.7%, 87.8% and 82.6%, global effective rates 89.5%, 81.6% and 63.0%, respectively for the 1-week terbinafine group, 4-week miconazole group and 1-week miconazole group. On week 12, the mycological relapse rates in 1-week terbinafine, 4-week miconazole and 1-week miconazole group were 13%, 14% and 21% respectively, and the incidence of adverse reaction was 2.38%, 2.38% and 3.57%, respectively. ConclusionsAs far as the efficacy and recurrence in patients are concerned, the 1-week terbinafine cream regimen is similar to the 4-week miconazole cream regimen for the treatment of interdigital tinea pedis.

5.Development and accuracy of artificial intelligence-generated prediction of facial changes in orthodontic treatment: a scoping review.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has been utilized in soft-tissue analysis and prediction in orthodontic treatment planning, although its reliability has not been systematically assessed. This scoping review was conducted to outline the development of AI in terms of predicting soft-tissue changes after orthodontic treatment, as well as to comprehensively evaluate its prediction accuracy. Six electronic databases (PubMed, EBSCOhost, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Scopus) were searched up to March 14, 2023. Clinical studies investigating the performance of AI-based systems in predicting post-orthodontic soft-tissue alterations were included. The Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies-2 (QUADAS-2) and Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) appraisal checklist for diagnostic test accuracy studies were applied to assess risk of bias, while the Grading of Recommendation, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) assessment was conducted to evaluate the certainty of outcomes. After screening 2500 studies, four non-randomized clinical trials were finally included for full-text evaluation. We found a low level of evidence indicating an estimated high overall accuracy of AI-generated prediction, whereas the lower lip and chin seemed to be the least predictable regions. Furthermore, the facial morphology simulated by AI via the fusion of multimodality images was considered to be reasonably true. Since all of the included studies that were not randomized clinical trials (non-RCTs) showed a moderate to high risk of bias, more well-designed clinical trials with sufficient sample size are needed in future work.

6.Application of digital technology in the restoration of partial edentulous dentition with microstomia

Objective:
To explore the application of digital technology in the restoration of partial edentulous patients with microstomia.
Methods:
A patient with microstomia was presented and seeking for the restoration of her full edentulous in the upper jaw and partial edentulous in the lower jaw (Kennedy Ⅲ). A digital intraoral scanning was used to obtain digital impressions of soft and hard tissues in the oral cavity. Computer aided design and 3D printing technology were used to design and fabricate the metal framework.
Results :
The patient had no difficulty to wear or take off the dentures. The maxillary and mandibular dentures showed good retention, stability, mastication function and articulation. There was no tenderness in the one week and one month′s follow-up. And the chewing efficiency was satisfactory
Conclusion
This case report successfully designed and fabricated mandibular removable partial dentures for patients with microstomia through intraoral scanning and 3D printing technology. Thus, this work provides a new method and idea for treating partial edentulous dentition with microstomia
