Purpose:It has been shown that the heart is a chaotic oscillator. So it is appropriiate to use the Lyapunov exponent, an important parameter to identify the nature of non-linear dynamical systems, for identifying the state of human heart. Methods:Preliminary results are obtained in this paper using Wolf's algorithm for 8 normal and 107 abnormal ECG recordings. Results:Significant differences are found between the Lyapunov exponents of normal ECG and ECG with obvious coronary stenosis (OCS), but there is no significant difference between the Lyapunov exponents of normal ECG and ECG with mild coronary stenosis (MCS);Significant differences are also found between the Lyapunov exponents of R-R interval series of normal ECG、ECG with MCS and ECG with OCS. Conclusions:It is apparent that the R-R interval series can give us more messages about human heart, and the Lyapunov exponents of ECG and R-R interval series are the appropriate parameters for the identification of the physiological states of human heart. It is possible to use Lyapunov exponent for early diagnosis of Coronary Heart Disease.

Objective To discuss protein marks expressed differentially in placenta of Down's syndrome by means of proteomics. Methods We collected placenta of 18 patients(from March 2009 to December 2009 at Beijing Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital), and divided them into two groups, one was 10 patients with fetal Down's syndrome, the other was normal pregnancies (normal chromosome) with other diseases. We separated proteins expressed in placentas of two groups by two-dimensional difference gel electrophoresis (2D-DIGE), and then analyzed the differential protein spots by software Decyder 6. 5, then, spots differentially expressed by 1.5 fold or more were analyzed by matrix assisted laser desorption ionizationtime of flight-mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS). In the end, the differential expressional levels of partially identified proteins were validated by western blot analysis. Results (1) Differential proteins of two groups protein spots of placentas separated by 2D-DIGE were analyzed by software Decyder 6. 5 (these colored lights scattered in the image were protein spots), a total of 56 spots out of 352 were differentially expressed (P<0. 05) in two groups. We analyzed 17 protein spots(12 protein spots were over-expressed and 5 protein spots were down-expressed) differentially expressed by 1.5 fold or more by MALDI-TOF-MS.(2) Protein matching after searching protein database, 17 protein spots turn out to be 10 proteins. Four kinds [superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1), peroxiredoxin 6 (PRDX6), heat shock protein 27 (HSP27),endoplasmic reticulum protein 29 (ERP29)] of them were validated by western blot analysis, the group of fetal Down's syndrome were 0.74 ±0. 12,0.29 ±0. 10,0.53 ±0. 16,0.20 ±0. 09,the group of normal pregnancies were 0. 51 ±0. 08,0. 34 ± 0. 16,0. 18 ± 0. 07,0. 35 ± 0. 09, the results confirmed the observed changes in proteomics. Conclusions Compared with normal pregnancies, there were differential proteins expressed in placenta of Down's syndrome. This approach might provide new screening markers in use for prediction of Down's syndrome, however, further study should be done to make these 4 proteins (SOD1,HSP27, ERP29, PRDX6) be new screening markers.

AIM:To study the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-9(MMP-9),matrix metalloproteinase-2(MMP-2) and the tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase(TIMP-1) in the lung tissue of the hypercapnia rat.METHODS:Forty Wistar rats were randomly divided into a control group (group A,n=20) and hypercapnia group (group B,n=20). Group B received mix gas exposure (6% CO_2,21% O_2,72% N_2) 7 h daily for 4 weeks. The parameters we would examine were as follow:arterial blood gas;the mean pulmonary artery pressure;MMP-2,MMP-9,TIMP-1,and NE activity in lung tissue. Masson pigmentation of elasticity fibre was analyzed by computer image analyzer. Histopathological changes of lung tissue were observed under light microscope. The protein expression of MMP (MMP-2,MMP-9) and TIMP (TIMP-1) in lung tissue were determined by immunocytochemistry.RESULTS:Decompensate respiratory acidosis (pH=7.20±0.04,PaCO_2=7.84±0.15) developed in group B. The mean pulmonary artery pressure were similar between groups B and A (P>0.05). Tissue edema in the lung, endothelial cell damage of the small blood vessels, pulmonary micro thrombus formations and increased pulmonary capillary permeability were observed in group B. NE activity increased significantly (P<0.01). However,no significant change of MMP-2,MMP-9,TIMP-1 activity was found in group B and group A (P>0.05). There was significant decrease in the relative content of elasticity fibre in lung tissue in group B compared to group A (P<0.01). The expression of MMP-2 protein in the lung tissue of group B was lower than that in group A (P<0.01),but the expression of both MMP-9 and TIMP-1 proteins in the lung tissue in group B were higher than those in group A (P<0.01).CONCLUSION:Hypercapnia rat model is successfully reproduced by exposure of animals to the mix gas exposure (6% CO_2,21% O_2,and 72% N_2). The pulmonary artery pressure is not affected by hypercapnia. High concentration of CO_2 causes increase of NE activity and decrease in the relative content of elasticity fibre. High concentration of CO_2 causes the increase of MMP-2 protein expression and decrease in the MMP-9 and TIMP-1 protein expression.

OBJECTIVE: To explore microcosmic information in chronic gastritis dampness syndrome by using serum proteomics of patients with chronic gastritis dampness syndrome. METHODS: Serum proteomics of 18 dampness syndrome cases, 17 non-dampness syndrome cases in chronic gastritis patients and 8 normal controls were analyzed by surface enhanced laser desorption/ionization-time of flight (SELDI-TOF) protein-chip. RESULTS: There was a high expression trend in three ratios of charge (of an electron) to mass (M/S) of 3.2 kD, 6.4 kD and 8.1 kD of protein expression spectrum from patients with chronic gastritis dampness syndrome, and the wave peak value was over 10 units. There was a low expression trend in above-mentioned sites of protein expression spectrum from patients with chronic gastritis non-dampness syndrome and normal group. The wave peak value of patients with chronic gastritis non-dampness syndrome was about or below 10 units, and the wave peak value in normal group was below 5 units. CONCLUSION: There exists a certain significance to explore biologic theory basis of chronic gastritis dampness syndrome by analyzing the serum proteomics.
