Objective To investigate some specific fluorescent substances in gastric juice from patients with gastric carcinoma and to establish biomarkers for the detection of gastric cancer. Methods We collected gastric juice from 10 patients with gastric carcinoma and 10 patients without gastric carcinoma respectively. After being condensed, the specimens of gastric juice were analyzed by means of high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). We collected the specific fluorescent substance in the retention time of 11.5-12.5 min in fluorescence spectra of HPLC and then detected them through mass spectrometry. Comparing such spectra with those of L-tryptophan, we attempted to find the principle component of the fluorescent substances. Results There was a specific substance in gastric juice in the retention time of 11.5-12.5 min in fluorescent spectra of HPLC, which was more abundant in gastric malignancy than in gastric benigh diseases. With the mass charge ratio(m/z)of 205, the substance had the same mass spectrum as shown in the third level of L-tryptophan, which was confirmed by mass spectrometry. This substance was identified to be L-tryptophan. Conclusions L-tryptophan is one of the specific fluorescent substances in gastric juice from patients with gastric carcinoma.

Objective To verify and evaluate the efficacy and safety of PEG-4000 electrolyte lavage solution in endoscopy preparation. Methods A multicenter open randomized controlled clinical study of 211 patients taking PEG-4000 electrolyte or mannitol in colonoendoscopy preparation. The overall evaluation of colonic preparation was the primary efficacy criterion. The investigator recorded any adverse event to assess the safety. Results The total effective rate of overall colonic preparation of study group was 92. 45% (98/ 106) , that of mannitol group was 80% (84/105). The study group showed more effective than control group with statistical significance (P = 0.016). The adverse event incidence of study group was 8.49%. There were 6 patients complained of nausea and vomiting, 3 patients showed abnormal laboratory results after administration. All the events relieved in short period and have no influence on examination. There was no serious adverse event in this group. The incidence of adverse event in mannitol group was 14. 29% (15/105 ). Four patients showed gastrointestinal symptoms and 1 showed chest suppression. Abnormal laboratory results were found in 10 patients. There was 1 serious adverse event occurred in control group. The difference between 2 groups had no statistical significance. Conclusion PEG-4000 electrolyte is a safe and effective drug in colonic preparation before clinical colonic examination or surgery.

Object To investigate the effect of Angelica polysaccharide (APS) on the induction of chronic myelocytic leukemia cells into chronic myelocytic leukaemia dendritic cells (CML-DCs). Methods Bone marrow monocytes from CML patients were cultured in GM-CSF/IL-4 or in GM-CSF/IL-4 combined with APS in each concentration (50, 100, 200 mg/L), respectively. The morphotype of CML-DCs was identified by optical microscope or electron microscope, CML-DCs viability was calculated by Trypan Blue exclusion. The phenotype of CML-DCs (CD 80, CD 86, and CD 83) was identified by flow cytometry. The capability of stimulating auto-lymphocyte or allo-lymphocyte proliferation was tested with mixed leukocyte reaction (MLR). Results Bone marrow monocytes from CML patients, which were cultured in GM-CSF/IL-4 or in GM-CSF/IL-4/APS showed typical morphotype and expressed the high level phenotype of CML-DCs. The capability of proliferation and the survival rate of CML-DCs were enhanced markedly and the expression of CD 83, CD 80, and CD 86 on CML-DCs were significantly increased when CML-DCs were cultured in GM-CSF/IL-4/APS. The capability of stimulating lymphocyte proliferation was more competent in 100 mg/L APS group. Conclusion The expression of CD 83, CD 80, and CD 86 on CML-DCs cultured in GM-CSF/IL-4/APS is significantly higher than those in GM-CSF/IL-4. The capability of CML-DCs of stimulating lymphocyte proliferation is more potential in GM-CSF/IL-4/APS than in GM-CSF/IL-4. APS can promote the induction and mature of CML-DCs cultured in IL-4 and GM-CSF.
