Objective The imaging quality and irradiation dose were compared between scatter filtering template performance and conventional grid in digital radiography.MethodsImages of contrast-detail phantom and ROC statistic phantom corrected with scatter filtering template method and grid were obtained, respectively. The image quality factors(IQF)and sihnal detection probability values(Pdet)and imaging dose were analyzed by ANOVA,SNK and t test statistics for the two methods of scatter removing.ResultsThe difference of IQF and signal detection probability of images corrected by scatter filtering template technique and conventional snd Was statistically significant.ConclusionsIn digital radiography,STFF can effectively filter scattering, improve image quality without increasing the exposure. With the same image quality.it can reduce the entrance surface dose by about 30% than filter grid.In order to effectively filter scattering, improve the quality of X-ray image, and reduce the patient dose.STFF is an alternative method.

ObjectiveTo reduce the effective dose and maintain the image quality by adjusting the image processing parameters in the lumbar spine examinations. Methods This study investigated the influence of image processing parameters on image quality of Philips DR system by evaluating image quality of CDRAD 2.0 phantom. The parameters include detail contrast enhancement, noise compensation, unsharp masking and unsharp masking kernel. The entrance surface dose of phantom was measured by solidose meter.A synthetical parameters optimization project was proposed by analyzing the results of the investigation. This project was also testified by phantoms.ResultsImportant effects were the main effects of DCE,unsharp masking and kernel at the clinically used tube potential of 70 kVp( F =91.45,373.79,429.88,P < 0.05).These effects indicated an increase of the 1QF about 20 units with increasing unsharp masking, while an increase of DCE and kernel led to decrease of IQF about 10 and 21 units. When the tube potential was increased to 85 kV,keeping the settings of the process parameters unchanged, the IQF increased. The results showed statically significant difference ( t =5.31,P < 0.05 ).ConclusionIt is possible to lower the effective dose to the patient by the use of a higher tube potential and maintain a good image quality, and it will have little influence on clinic diagnosis through the most optimal setting of the process parameters.

Objective To evaluate the significance of COLD-PCR in detecting KRAS mutation of pancreatic cancer and colorectal cancer patients. Methods First, set up COLD-PCR and compared the sensitivities of COLD-PCR/Sanger sequencing with PCR/Sanger sequencing using mixed cell lines ( KRAS wild-type cell line SW116 and KRAS mutant cell line SW480).Then, detected KRAS mutation of 20 formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded samples of pancreatic cancer and 39 formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded samples of colorectal cancer using PCR/Sanger sequencing and COLD-PCR/Sanger sequencing, respectively and compared the coincidence rate and consistency. Results The low detection limits of PCR/Sanger respectively. KRAS frequency detected by COLD-PCR/Sanger sequencing [75% (15/20)] in 20 cases of pancreatic cancer was higher than that detected by regular PCR/Sanger sequencing [40% ( 8/20 ) ,x2 =5.013, P < 0.05]. KRAS frequency detected by COLD-PCR/Sanger sequencing [44% (17/39)] in 39 cases of colorectal cancer was higher than that detected by regular PCR/Sanger sequencing [31% (12/39) ,x2 =1. 372, P = 0. 174]. The coincidence rate of these two methods was 0. 730 and the difference had no statistical significance. The coincidence rate of detecting KRAS mutation was 65% in pancreatic cancer and the results showed a good correlation between two methods and the two methods had bad agreement in diagnosis (Kappa = 0. 364, P < 0. 05 ). COLD-PCR/Sanger sequencing could detect more cases of KRAS mutations from pancreatic caner than regular PCR/Sanger sequencing. This was because there were many non-tumor cells in pancreatic tumor tissue and COLD-PCR/Sanger sequencing was more sensitive than regular PCR/Sanger sequencing. The coincidence rate of detecting KRAS mutations was 87% in colorectal cancer and the results were showed a good correlation between two methods and the two methods had substantical agreement in diagonsis ( Kappa = 0. 730, P < 0. 05 ) . Conclusion COLD-PCR/Sanger sequencing is highly sensitive to screen KRAS mutation in pancreatic cancer and colorectal cancer patients.

Bletilla striata has been used as traditional Chinese medicine for several centuries. In recent years, the quality and quantity of wild B. striata plants have declined sharply due to habitat deterioration and human over-exploitation. Therefore, it is of great urgency to evaluate and protect B. striata wild plant resource. In this study, sequence-related amplified polymorphism (SRAP) markers were applied to assess the level and pattern of genetic diversity in twelve populations of B. striata. The results showed a high level of genetic diversity (PPB = 90.48%, H = 0.349 4, I = 0.509 6) and moderate genetic differentiation among populations (G(st) = 0.260 9). Based on the unweighted pair-group method with arithmetic average (UPGMA), twelve populations gathered in three clusters. The cluster 1 included four populations. There are Nanjing, Zhenjiang, Xuancheng and Hangzhou. The seven populations which come from Hubei Province, Hunan Province, Jiangxi Province and Guizhou Province belonged to the cluster 2. The cluster 3 only contained Wenshan population. Moreover, Mantel test revealed significant positive correlation between genetic distances and geographic distances (r = 0.632 9; P < 0.000 1). According to the results, we proposed a series of conservation consideration for B. striata.

Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2004;21(3):350-354
As a kind of biomaterial, carboxymethyl chitosan (CMC) has excellent biodegradable and bioacceptable capabilities using. This study was aimed to probe into the feasibility of CMC to prepare the implantable sustained release Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride (CPX) microspheres(MS), and to go further into the pharmaceutic technology, the morphology and the characteristics of in vitro release of the microspheres. First, we prepared the microspheres by emulsification and cross-linking technology. Then, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), infrared spectrum (IR) and differential thermal analysis (DTA) were used to detect the structure and morphology of the MS. The in vitro release of CPX/CMC-MS and the CPX content of the MS were detected through continuous-flow releasing system. We found that the structure and morphology of the MS were affected by the conditions of preparation such as emulsification and cross-linking temperature, ionic strength and stirring speed, that the releasing time of CPX was more than 7 days, and that the releasing behaviors of the microspheres conformed to the Higuchi model. So we drew the conclusions that CMC could be used as a kind of absorbable and implantable adjuvant for sustained release, the technology of emulsification and cross-linking was proved to be feasible, stable and simple.
