1.New progress of myelodysplastic syndromes in the 55th ASH annual meeting
Journal of Leukemia & Lymphoma 2014;23(1):20-21,29
New progress of myelodysplastic syndomes (MDS) in the 55th ASH annual meeting on 5-azacytidine and decitabine was reviewed.Except in older females, the survival time for a diagnosis of MDS in the United States does not seem to have substantially improved since the introduction of 5-azacytidine into the market in 2004.However,clinical and mechanism data suggest that judicious,mechanism-based application and optimization of these agents will have increasingly meaningful impact. Moreover, these drugs are exemplars of an inspiring alternative to the traditional cytotoxic paradigm and should pave the way for additional relatively nontoxic but broadly effective agents.

4.Foundational research of olfactory ensheathing cells transplantation in treating central nervous system disease
Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2007;0(36):-
Central nervous system(CNS) disease induces functional deficits in persons.Simultaneously, there appears axonal destruction and the formation of scar tissue,as well as cavity and physical gaps in the lesions.Olfactory ensheathing cells(OECs),acting as prime candidates for autologous transplantation, secrete neurotrophic factors for neuroprotection, angiogenesis and outgrowth of both intact and lesioned axons to different degrees, change the response status of endogenous glia after lesion,as well as remyelinate axons after a range of demyelinating insults.OECs transplantation has become an ongoing clinical therapeutic approach for human CNS disease in recent years. Thus,OECs transplantation can be used for cell-mediated repair following a variety of CNS lesions. Here, the paper reviews the current status of foundational research of OECs transplantation in treating CNS disease underlying the wide variation of results obtained in the field.

10.Artificial total hip arthroplasty for proximal femur tumors:clinical efficacy and security
Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2014;(26):4115-4119
BACKGROUND:With elevated medical levels, limb salvage surgery for limb malignant tumor is valuable day by day. At present, the limb salvage surgery has substituted amputation and becomes mainstream and development direction of present surgical treatment of limb tumors. However, so far, there are no unified surgical indications for proximal femur tumor, which are controversial. OBJECTIVE:To investigate the efficacy of artificial total hip arthroplasty combined with extended resection of tumor sections for proximal femoral bone tumors. METHODS:Patients with proximal femoral bone tumors in the Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University were selected and divided into control group and observation group, with 30 patients in each group. According to the disease, lesion curettage, aneurysm wal inactivation, autologous and (or) al ogeneic bone, mixed bone graft and bone graft fixation were selected to treat the control group. The observation group patients received extended resection of tumor sections and total hip arthroplasty. The operative time, intraoperative blood loss, hospital stay and joint function of two groups were compared. 2 years later, patients were revisited. Metastasis and recurrence rate, death rate and quality of life of two groups were compared. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:There was no significant difference in intraoperative blood loss and surgery time between the two groups (P>0.05). However, hospital stay of patients in the observation group was shorter than the control group. The excellent and good rate of recovery of joint function (83%) was higher in the observation group than in the control group (53%). The metastasis and recurrence rate within 2 years after surgery (7%) and death rate (3%) were lower in the observation group than in the control group (30%, 23%). Various indicators of quality of life of patients in the observation group were significantly better than the control group (P<0.05). These results confirmed that artificial total hip arthroplasty in the treatment of proximal femur tumors is safe and effective.
