BACKGROUND: To repair bone defect, histocompatibility, growing characteristics, biodegradation and repairing mechanism of nanometer need to be further studied in clinic. OBJECTIVE: To observe the growing characteristics and histocompatibility of nano-hydroxyapatite (Nano-HA) for repairing jaw defect of rabbits.DESIGN: Randomized grouping animal study.SETTING: Beijing Jishuitan Hospital and Stomatology College of Jiamusi University.MATERIALS: A total of 24 New Zealand rabbits, either gender, weighing 2.5-3.5 kg, were provided by Animal Experimental Center of Jiamusi University. The animal experiment had got confirmed consent from local ethic committee. Nano-HA was provided by Material Engineering College of Jiamusi University and dealt with routine hyperthermia/hypertension sterilization. In addition, hydroxyapatite was provided by Wuhan Industry University, and the diameter was 1.0-2.0 μm.METHODS: The experiment was carried out in the Experimental Animal Center of Jiamusi University from November 2001 to May 2006. All rabbits were randomly divided into experimental group and control group with 12 in each group. Bone defect in the diameter of 1.0 cm was produced on body of mandible. Nano-HA was used to repair the bone defect of rabbits in the experimental group, while hydroxyapatite was used to repair the bone defect of rabbits in the control group. At 1, 4, 8 and 12 weeks after operation, all rabbits were sacrificed. In addition, medical imaging analysis system was used to analyze generative quantity of tissue in the two groups; meanwhile, histological quality and quantity were also analyzed so as to observe histocompatibility and newborn osteogenesis. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Histocompatibility and newborn osteogenesis.RESULTS: With the time passing by, the amount of repairing materials was decreased because of the combination with newborn tissue into bone in bone defect-repaired region in the experimental group. When it was closed to normal bone, the amount was stable. However, bony callus was not able to grow in materials in the control group. Results of correlation analysis demonstrated that materials were negatively straight-line correlation with newborn bone (r = -0.912 0, P < 0.01). During the repairing procedure of bone defect, newborn bone was closely correlative with Nano-HA; while, with the increase of newborn bone, the amount of repairing materials was decreased because of the combination with newborn tissue into bone.CONCLUSION: Nano-HA can combine with newborn bone tissue so as to rapidly generate bone, while it has an excellent biocompatibility.

Objective To investigate how functional connectivity changes within default-mode network related to posterior cingulated cortex employing resting-state functional MRI (tMRI). Methods fMRI was compared between 16 mild Alzheimer' s disease (AD) patients and 16 normal elder subjects. Regions of functional connectivity to posterior cingulated cortex were gathered by calculating temporal correlations in low frequency fMRI signal fluctuations. SPM2 was applied to calculate significant differences of connectivity between group and within group. Significance threshold was set up at the corrected P <0. 01, pixel extent > 5. A random effect two-example t test was performed by SPM2 to achieve significant difference of functional connection between groups ( P < 0. 01, corrected, t = 2. 47, pixel extent > 5 ). Results Regions showing disrupted connectivity to posterior cingulated cortex were: ventral medial prefrontal cortex (MPFC), bilateral visual cortex, infero-temporal cortex (ITC), and left hippocampus, right thalamus, right dorsal-lateral prefrontal cortex ( DLPFC), and precuneus. There were also regions showing increased connectivity with leftward asymmetry, these regions included: MPFC, left ITC, bilateral DLPFC, left pre- central motor cortex and left basal ganglia. Conclusions Impairments of memory and high visual-related functions in AD can be explained by functional disconnection in resting-state. Remoldability is reserved in mild AD to compensate for brain function which is taxed by left hemisphere preferentially. Our findings suggest that resting-state fMRI might be an appropriate approach for evaluating AD brain mechanism.

Objective:To establish Wistar rat models of acute radiation esophagitis, and observe the histopathological changes at different time points after modeling. Methods:Wistar rats were locally irradiated with different doses of 6 MV X-rays, and the rats were sacrificed on the 3 rd, 5 th, 7 th, and 14 th days after irradiation. The full-length esophagus tissue was taken for paraffin embedding, sectioning, and hematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining for pathological assessment. The pathological changes of the esophagus of the rats were observed at the 3 rd, 5 th, 7 th, and 14 th days after 25 Gy and 30 Gy irradiation. The changes of daily dietary intake of rats in different irradiation groups within 1-2 weeks after radiation exposure were observed. Results:No rat died in two groups after being irradiated with 25 Gy and 30 Gy rays. All the rats in the 30 Gy group had esophagus injury. On the 7 th day, the degree of injury was the most serious, with a pathological score of 5.00±0.75 and a food intake of 0 g. On the 14 th day, the degree of injury was relieved, and the food intake was restored to the level before irradiation. Conclusions:The Wistar rat model of acute radiation esophagitis can be established by a single dose of 6 MV X-ray 30 Gy irradiation to the esophagus. The 7 th day after irradiation is an ideal observation time for the acute injury phase, which is gradually alleviated after the 7 th day. The time can be chosen from 7-14 days after irradiation as the observation point for the healing repair phase.

Objective To study the prevalence, treatment policy and control of hypertension in patients with maintenance hemodialysis, and to analyze the influencing factors of hypertension control. Methods We studied the current status of 1382 patients with maintenance hemodialysis in 11 dialysis centers in Shanghai, among them 809 were male, and 573 were female.Hypertension was defined as systolic blood pressure(SBP) ≥ 140 and/or diastolic blood pressure (DBP) ≥90 mm Hg ( 1 mm Hg = 0.133 kPa).Those who had a history of hypertension and requiring antihypertensive therapy were also diagnosed as hypertension though their blood pressure was within normal range during the survey.Hypertension control was defined as blood pressure < 140/90 mm Hg before each dialysis session. Results The prevalence of hypertension in the hemodialysis patients was 86.3%.The treatment rate and control rate in those patients were 96.8% and 25.5% respectively.More than half (50.4% ) of patients were treated with only one kind of anti-hypertensive drug, and 34.4% with 2 kinds, 14.2% with 3 kinds, 1.0% with 4 kinds or more.Calcium channel blocker (CCB) was the most frequently prescribed drug (61.0%), followed by angiotensin Ⅱ receptor blockers ( 56.4% ), centrally acting anti-hypertensive agent ( 26.4% ), beta blockers and alpha, beta-blockers( 14.0% ).The control rate of hypertension in those hemodialysis people was aggravated by the existence of coronary artery disease. The patients who need more kinds of antihypertensive agents have a poorer control rate of hypertension. The hypertension control rate elevated significantly with the adequate hemodialysis. Conclusions There is a very high prevalence of hypertension in maintenance hemodialysis patients.Although the treatment rate is high, the control rate is unsatisfactory. So the control of hypertension in hemodialysis patient is still a clinical challenge.Appropriate dialysis adequacy, reasonable use of erythropoietin, treatment of heart disease and judicious use of antihypertensive drugs may be helpful to improve the clinical outcome.
